The Dying Houseplants Fact: Covid lockdowns turned buying plants into the next big pandemic trend.

Problem: Many people are forced to stay at home because of the pandemic. They buy a lot of houseplants and want to be houseplant parents to relieve stress. However, due to the lack of knowledge about how to properly raise plants, many houseplants are sick and dying, and the owners feel sad and frustrated.

Goal: I want to teach people how to raise healthy plants in order to help people be satisfied in these trying times.

Protect Our Youth Fact: Bullying is a big problem in US schools.

Problem: School bullying is a widespread issue that is often unnoticed. When children become the perpetrators or victims of violence at school, many parents do not know how to deal with and prevent this situation, nor do they know how to educate their children correctly. Also, Children who are bullied don’t know how to deal with it.

Goal: I want to teach parents the right way to protect their children. I want to help children to deal with school bullying in order to help decrease bullying and give children a healthy campus life.

I could probably identify a bully when they are bullying someone. Other than that, if they are acting normal then I probably wouldn’t be able to tell.

I don’t think I have experienced bullying almost ever in my life. Maybe once or twice I’m not sure but it wasn’t too bad. So I don’t talk about it because I don’t have anything to talk about it.

Yes, I think it has a bigger impact on people compared to physical bullying.

No, I think I would keep it a secret.

Question: How should parents help their children face when school bullying happens in the first time?

Summary: Parents should play the most important role in the occurrence of school bullying. Parents are the first person who can provide help and guidance for their children. I want to provide parents with the most comprehensive way about how to face bullying happens in their children.

Idea : The Importance of Prevention

Question: Why is prevention so important? Do parents need to communicate with children on such a heavy topic?

Summary: Teaching children to identify school bullying and giving them early warning in the face can help them better deal with the situation at the first time. I hope to educate parents on what is bullying and identify it correctly, so they can teaching their children how to prevent it.

FINAL TOPIC DIRECTION Idea : Proactive Communication Question: Why do most children prefer to be silent or face bullying by themselves instead of turning to adults?

Summary: Too many children would rather be silent or solve bullying on their own than communicate with adults (parents, teachers or other trusted adults) for help due to a variety of factors. This could be lack of knowing what is bullying or personality traits. I want to encourage and help youth and adults to open the conversation about bullying.

SWOT ANALYSIS Strengths The main beneficiaries and audience of SUSO are children (middle school students), followed by parents. The audience of many existing anti-bullying organizations is parents. SUSO, on the other hand, strives to directly influence and educate the main affected group in school bullying—children.

Weaknesses Because SUSO focuses on education for youth, the education for parents is not as extensive than that for children. In comparison, other organizations, provide more comprehensive guidance for parents. This could indirectly lead parents to seek additional help from other organizations.

Opportunities SUSO will have a great opportunity to educate the public on school bullying through various communication media. Because the main audience is children, the design and content will interact with children in an innovative, lively, and friendly way. Compared with other institutions, SUSO is more easily understood and recognized by children.

Threats SUSO is an institution to promote education and dialog between children and parents on the subject of school bullying. The main threat of SUSO lies in whether children and parents have the willingness to talk to one another. If either side is unwilling to participate, SUSO may not stay successful.

Laura is a 41-year-old mother. She is confident and indulgent to her three sons. The working day is very busy for Laura, she can only accompany her family and children on weekends.

As a result, her sons are not willing to communicate with her and hide secrets from her. She was recently told by the school that her older son has bullied other students. She needs help and advice about how to communicate with her son that his behavior was wrong and work things through with him.

They run all the educational institutions and schools in the state, and they can help any institution involved in campus education. Because SUSO is an organization that opposes school bullying, the whole SUSO project will be of concern to them.

Stopbullying.gov is federal government website managed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service. It provides information from various government agencies on bullying. The education and information they provide are very comprehensive, detailed, and systematic. It is not difficult to see that their audience is adult (parents and teachers).

No Bully is an organization focusing on ending the crisis of bullying in schools and online. They encourage any individual or group to create clubs in order to fight against school bullying. They have a lot of influence at schools, and they support organized publicity and education on the subject. However, this organization provides very little content and advice on how to prevent and deal with bullying, and also provides limited help for communication between children and parents.

Tackle Bullying is a national website to counter bullying and cyberbullying for young people, parents, and teachers. The audience can learn, get advice on how to deal with bullying. It is a very helpful and friendly website, and it is more popular with young people than Stopbullying. gov. It provides easy to understand information. However, the site does not provide a platform for children or parents to communicate about bullying.

TONE AND KEYWORDS Tone SUSO is a helpful, friendly, and interactive organization. SUSO is an organization that helps children speak for themselves and fight school bullying. Therefore, it must have a helpful and friendly tone to win children’s trust. The tone must also be interactive to encourage both children and parents to learn together and communicate with each other.

Keywords Assistance As an organization against campus bullying, SUSO has the obligation to provide youth and adults with comprehensive knowledge on the issue. SUSO needs to give helpful suggestions and methods on prevention and handling of school bullying. At the same time, SUSO will provide different advice to help children with different personalities and life situations.

Friendliness The brand will face its audience with a friendly image and make it easy for the audience to identify with SUSO. Because brand is related to school bullying, a friendly image will be easier for young people to accept and seek help. Visual Development

After doing research, I decided the organization I’m going to create is mainly for youth age 10–14. My three keywords are helpful, friendly, and interactive. I want the organization to be friendly to youth, and I want to create a look the youth can identify with. Navy blue represents the parents, orange represents a bully, and yellow represents all youth. The overlapping of colors will represent the collision and communication of the three main roles. The character illustrations used can effectively attract children's attention, but can also reach the parents.

The geometric san-serif brings children a sense of closeness.

POSTER SERIES This poster series is a cohesive brand presence sample. The aim is to design the first visual impression of the entire brand using the previously mentioned color, illustration and font.

The goal of this poster series is to appeal to the audience to pay attention to, understand and prevent school bullying. The audiences of the posters are bullies, victims and parents. The series of posters respectively publicize: encouraging victims to stand up against bullying, educating bullies that their behavior doesn’t win, and reminding parents to watch their children’s behavior for signs of bullying.

Setting the font to two different sizes makes the audience think it's a mistake.

The message is too heavy.

Creamy color background.

Through the feedback I received from classmates and the instructor, I adjusted the font size and color of the sentences to make them look more consistent. In addition, this time I look at bullies from a compassionate perspective and adjust the sentence to resonate with children’s psychology. Also, I modified the illustration designed for parents, removing the knife in the child’s hand and replacing it with a fist and black speech bubble to soften the message.

The sentences are more appropriate than the previous poster design.

Start the conversation about bullying between youth and parents, and teach them how to identify and respond to it.

SUSO holds workshops for children and their parents. A workshop will be an event to educate the audiences on how to prevent and deal with school bullying. This event can promote an ongoing discussion between children and parents on the subject. The goal for this deliverable is to start the conversation about bullying between youth and parents, and teach them how to identify and respond to it.

The three ways to achieve this goal is: subject talks will teach methods to identify cope with methods of school bullying to children and parents. The group activity will help children to understand what bullying is, and let parents understand their kids’ view on bullying by watching them. Such the activities between children and parents is to help them start the conversation about school bullying, to provide a means for them to explain their perspectives and ideas to each other, and to deepen the understanding and relationship between a children and their parents.

15. Be a good example for your child. It’s also important as a parent to model of appropriate behavior and model how to be kind and sympathetic and supportive to other people. Sometime your child may not be the one who’s being bullied, but they might be the bystander that could actually intervene and help stick up for a child is experiencing bullying.

CHILD-PARENT ACTIVITIES (3:00pm–4:00pm)

Note-card sorting activity (using activity cards in conversation lounge) This is an activity for parent and child. Each family will have a set of cards with examples of bullying behaviors. Parent can ask child to put the cards in order, from most to least serious.

When child has ordered the cards, compare the results with the back side of card, and discuss the reasons for the choices.

School bullying is a widespread issue that is often unnoticed and it needs to be continually addressed.

Help the youth to communicate to report center about bullying that they may see in everyday life.

SUSO has developed an application for youth to use on their mobile phones for help and advice. This is a report center app.

All children (whether victims or bystanders, or even bullies) can use this app to report bullying events they encounter. The goal for this deliverable is to help the youth to communicate to report center about bullying that they may see in everyday life.

There are ways to achieve this goal. First, design a function that can help youth report school bullying at any time, anonymously.

The app contains basic knowledge about bullying and how to deal with it, which can enhance students’ ability to identify and protect themselves from bullying. At last, the app provides videos for children to watch, which will be combined with deliverable three—YouTube channel.

Encourage students as well as parents to act against bullying.

SUSO has made regular video releases on the topic of school bullying on YouTube. There is a channel aimed at youth, but there is also content for adults. This means to watch for signs of bullying, and to respond correctly when it happens. The goal for this deliverable is to encourage students as well as parents to act against bullying.

There is an introductory video on this channel that viewers are encouraged to start with. The first part of the video shows some real facts and data about school bullying, explaining to children and parents that bullying is serious, but also common and happens to many children. The second part of video provides some effective and helpful tips for children to oppose bullying.

At the end of video introduces the workshop and app of SUSO, and encourages all audiences to support and join SUSO to fight bullying together.

1. Have you ever seen that happen? This kind of behavior is called bullying. And it’s not cool.

2. Bullying is a widespread problem and it can take a toll on everything from your self-esteem to your physical health. But we’re here to tell you, bullying is not as scary as we think, you’re not at fault and you’re not alone.

3. Some kids will try to feel cool or strong by choosing to be mean to those who are smaller or weaker than them.

21. This is perhaps the most recommended anti-bullying tactic, and it should be the first resort. Sometimes, all a bully wants to get is a reaction, if he doesn’t receive it, he will get bored and move on.

31. Four, tell someone. Whether it’s during the bullying or after it, find an adult to tell about it. This is not tattling, because you’re not trying to get someone in trouble. You want to keep someone safe.

But by stopping bullying you’ll be an awesome friend to someone when they need it most.

22. Fourth, Find someone you can talk to.

23. Speak out. Nobody has the right to make you feel unsafe, uncomfortable or unhappy. Find someone you trust—a teacher, a guidance counselor, a parent, even a friend—and tell them what’s going on. There’s no reason you have to tackle this problem all by yourself—there are people out there who will drop anything to help you .

28. One, be a buddy. Be the friend of the kid who is bullied. This shows the bully that their targets have friends.

29. Two, interrupt. When bullying starts, find a way to interrupt. When you interrupt, you give the target a reason to walk away from the problem.

SUMMARY SUSO (Stand up, speak out) is an ideological statewide organization. SUSO is an institution to prevent, intervene in, and resolve school bullying for youth who have been affected or have witnessed bullying. Youth and adults can find helpful advice here. SUSO also provides a platform for young people to seek help. The goal of SUSO is to encourage students and parents to stand up and speak out against bullying.

To achieve the goal, SUSO designs and develop all activities and projects for children: a workshop, a mobile application, and a YouTube channel. The workshop will be a very helpful event for children and parents to learn and popularize school bullying, and provide a place and environment to interact. The SUSO app is designed to provide assistance for children who are not willing to communicate with adults or are afraid to speak for themselves or their friends. This will help achieve SUSO’s goal of encouraging children to stand up and speak out. Finally, a YouTube channel is a good platform for educate and encourage youth and parents to take the right steps to combat school bullying.

SUSO is designed to protect and help our youth. We can't stop bullying when it happens, but we can provide children with ways and platforms to face and fight it. We must take the initiative, reach out to our children, and create a friendly communication platform for them. Only then can we provide a healthy growth and learning environment for our youth.
