2024-2025 Annual Report

Dear YULA Community,

Dear YULA Family,

This year marks a remarkable milestone—45 years since the founding of YULA. It is with deep gratitude to Hashem and profound pride that we look back on nearly half a century of nurturing Torah, academic excellence, character, and leadership. And yet, even more powerful than what we have accomplished is what lies ahead.

This has been a truly extraordinary year. We took bold steps to elevate our learning environment, becoming a cell phone–free campus—a decision that has transformed the rhythm of our days. By reclaiming presence and focus, our students have deepened their learning, strengthened friendships, and reconnected with the values that matter most. We experienced unprecedented growth, with record enrollment reflecting a rising wave of families drawn to YULA’s mission and model. We’ve expanded not only in size, but in spirit—with increased hours of Torah learning, course offerings, programming, each moment building toward the kind of greatness that cannot be measured in numbers alone. We felt the heartbreak and strength of our people, as we davened daily for Israel’s soldiers and hostages. Our students channeled their pain into purpose—through tefillah, chesed, and activism. We were honored to host freed hostages, an experience that left an indelible mark on our entire community. And we celebrated our alumni who made aaliyah with a reunion in Bet Shemesh that had over 200 people.

Through all of this, we have seen that YULA is not just a school—it is a pillar of our community. A sacred endeavor of building neshamot, strengthening identity, and ensuring the Jewish future.

In Parashat Terumah, Hashem instructs Moshe to build

the Mishkan—“Ve’asu li mikdash, v’shachanti b’tocham”— “Build for Me a sanctuary, and I will dwell among them” (Shemot 25:8). The commentators point out that the verse does not say “in it,” but “in them.” The sanctuary wasn’t just a physical space—it was a vessel through which the Divine would dwell within the people themselves. So too with YULA. For 45 years, we’ve built more than buildings and programs. We’ve built mensches—students in whom Torah, values, and purpose truly dwell. The impact of YULA is not confined to our campus—it lives in the classrooms our alumni teach in, the homes they build, the IDF units they serve in, and the communities they lead.

Chazal teach: “The reward for a mitzvah is the mitzvah itself.” What greater reward than seeing 45 years of students who now raise children of their own in Torah and mitzvot— many of whom are now returning as the next generation of YULA students.

Thank you for walking this path with us. May we continue to grow together—dor l’dor—from generation to generation.

Each year, as YULA’s President, I’m asked to write a letter for the annual report. I don’t know why I’m the one who gets this privilege. In truth, we’re blessed with an outstanding administration, led by Rabbi Sufrin, and an incredibly engaged and dedicated Board of Directors. We’re also lucky to have an enormously supportive parent body, who take their responsibilities as stakeholders in YULA’s mission, and the guarantors of their children’s education, with the utmost seriousness. With Am Yisrael preoccupied with the twin challenges of the plight of the hostages and the seemingly never-ending war(s), YULA has to both share deeply in the existential challenges of our peoplehood, while also continuing its educational mission of preparing the Jewish children of Los Angeles to maximize their impact on the Jewish people, Eretz Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael in the 21 st century. YULA is accomplishing this by committing itself to 1) the Primacy and Relevancy of Torah; 2) Uncompromising General Studies; and 3) Character Development.

I have a daughter in the Girls Division. I spend many hours each week learning at the Boys Division Beit Midrash. I am coming off recently having attended YULA’s 45 th graduation. The State of the Union is strong. YULA has record high enrollment, eclipsing 500 students, bli ayin hara. Every event is a new fundraising record. People give enthusiastically, because they believe in the educational mission of the school and because they’re seeing tangible results. Tuition continues to stay flat, buoyed by enrollment, careful fiscal management by our administration and finance committee, and the continued dividends of Covid government funding and merger cost savings. We’ve saved the community in excess of $3.5 million—and counting—by holding tuition down relative to our competition. We’ve done it for a half a decade!—and will continue to keep trying.

Our campus improvement and expansion continues apace. This summer we’re upgrading the Nagel campus weight room thanks to a generous gift from the Cohen family in memory of Joe Setton z”l. We are also continuing to develop plans for the Girls Campus Annex on the corner of Horner and Rob -

ertson—that we already purchased—which will augment the Gindi campus in the coming years.

All of this is supremely important, but pales in comparison to the educational achievements that all can see. Our children are flourishing. Torah learning is conducted at a high level in both divisions. The ruchniyus on both campuses, whether manifested through learning, kumzitzes, informal educational opportunities, or school trips, is palpable. Our general studies curriculum challenges students, preparing them for the ever-changing job markets of the future. And, perhaps most importantly, our children are deeply involved in performing chesed and in other character development opportunities— ranging from drama, to Model UN, to sports. It’s dizzying to comprehend what they’re juggling and yet, in a world that is otherwise unkind to adolescents, especially the technology-industrial complex (a term I just coined), they are, as a group, happy and engaged—in no small measure aided by the school’s courageous cell phone policy.

We’re living in a time of miracles, witnessing the beginnings of the remaking of the Middle East, led by Israel. We’re also seeing new technologies reshape entire industries, seemingly overnight. Thankfully, we’re also inheritors of a 5,000 year old tradition that grounds each generation and helps it navigate what it means to Jewish, heirs to the Torah, and stewards of the future. May we succeed as a light onto nations and fulfill our destiny.

REBBE/TALMID & MACHANCHOT

STUDENT BOND

At YULA, the deep connection between students and their rebbeim and mechanchot inspires a lifelong love for Torah in our talmidim. This bond is one of our greatest strengths and extends far beyond the classroom. Every Shabbos, YULA rebbeim hold a learning seder with students at Adas Torah, while mechanchot open their homes for Shabbos meals, seudat shlishit learning programs, and after-school events. This past summer, Rabbi Sufrin visited talmidim and alumni around the world—from NCSY Summer and Camp Kaylie to Mach Hach BaAretz and even the IDF—demonstrating that YULA’s dedication to its students continues long after graduation.

up 31% since its launch just three years ago. The enthusiasm around the program, fueled by a love for learning and designed to enhance the campus avira, has made it a central part of student life. The program is now led by two dedicated mechanchot: Tali Halpern ‘19 for 9th and 10th grades, and Rachel Margolies ‘99 for 11th and 12th grades.

DERACHIM

The Girls Division Derachim Program offers students across all grades and academic tracks a variety of “paths” to foster spiritual growth and deepen their connection to Hashem. The course offerings evolve each semester in response to the changing interests and needs of the student body. This year’s selections included: Practical Jewish Medical Ethics, Contemporary Jewish Reproductive Health, Jewish Legal Advocacy: Navigating Values and Interests, Art and Soul, Israel: Today, Yesterday, and Tomorrow, A Panoply of Parshanut, and Complex Episodes in Tanach

34 students participated in the Friedman Family Masmidim Program , a bekiyus program designed to master 50 dapim of gemara and to finish 2 masechtot each year,

UNCOMPROMISING GENERAL STUDIES

PIONEERING MEDICAL EXPLORATION FOR STUDENTS

The JOWMA Club, launched this first year, becoming the school’s first medical academic club. Each month, students had the opportunity to learn directly from practicing physicians through hands-on, experiential workshops covering a range of specialties including cardiology, mental health, pediatric endocrinology, oncology, and nutrition. Approximately 45 students participated regularly. The club offered unique, immersive experiences such as heart dissections and suturing practice, providing students with a realistic introduction to medical skills and careers.

GELMAN HALL

Gelman Hall is a vibrant hub where creativity, innovation, and learning converge. Within its walls, a dynamic blend of disciplines—including Robotics, Engineering, Art, Film, and Education— come to life through a variety of engaging classes and hands-on experiences. This year, students have been prototyping robots in the STEAM labs, screening original films in the film room, crafting impressive art, and piloting innovative education workshops. The Chabad Minyan also davens here!

EXPANDING ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES

As part of our ongoing commitment to expanding academic opportunities for our students, we introduced Spanish and Psychology as new electives this year. The history department will also be adding the first history elective in YULA’s history—a course on World War II. Looking ahead, we’re excited to offer AP Chemistry and AP Psychology as part of next year’s curriculum.

EMPOWERING STUDENT VOICES THROUGH MEANINGFUL ASSEMBLIES

This year saw a strong emphasis on student-led assemblies, which played a meaningful role in fostering awareness and reflection within the school community. Students organized and led impactful programs centered around significant events and themes, including 9/11, October 7th, Women’s History Month, Yom Hazikaron, Yom HaShoah, and Veterans Day.

EXPANDING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

This year, many teachers participated in AP Summer Institutes, enhancing their subject expertise and instructional strategies. Professional development opportunities were expanded to include workshops on artificial intelligence, classroom management, and other key areas, supporting continued growth and innovation in teaching practices.

PILLARS OF

A

YULA EDUCATION:

DEVELOPMENT CHARACTER

COMMUNITY

During Chanukah celebrations at YULA, we dedicate one special day each year for our students to focus on making an Impact .

A This year, our students volunteered at

11

different chessed organizations across the community, including Etta, Garden of Palms, the Iranian Jewish Senior Center, Shabbos Kits, OBKLA, Love n Groceries, Yachad, and more.

The goal of the day was twofold: to give back meaningfully to the community and to inspire our students to continue making a lasting impact beyond Chanukah.

Mission to Israel: The annual January Israel trip for YULA was an opportunity for YULA students to visit army bases, to visit with wounded soldiers, former hostages and families, and to volunteer at multiple locations in the Gaza area and around the country, alongside learning more about options for gap year programs.

SHARSHERET PINK DAY

We marked Sharsheret Pink Day by raising awareness about breast and ovarian cancer. Students wore pink and heard from Sharsheret’s Outreach Coordinator, and a breast cancer survivor. The speakers highlighted the high risk of hereditary cancer in the Ashkenazi Jewish community and shared the power of chessed and bikur cholim— even small gestures like checking in on a friend. Thank you, Sharsheret, for the incredible work you do!

SHALOM TASK FORCE GO PURPLE DAY

As a new component of the 3rd Annual National Volleyball Shabbaton , the players led a chessed initiative to support families affected by the LA wildfires.

A In partnership with Chabad of the Palisades, they packed and delivered

25

Shabbat Kits to displaced Jewish families in Pacific Palisades. This effort brought comfort, achdut, and a sense of community to those facing this challenging time, showcasing how the spirit of the Shabbaton extends far beyond the court.

AWARENESS

HEALTH WEEK

The YULA Counseling Department was excited to bring back Health Week! This special week was dedicated to promoting both physical and mental well-being, with practical tips for leading a healthier lifestyle. Students heard from inspiring speakers, participated in hands-on workshops, and enjoyed delicious healthy treats.

We participated in Shalom Task Force’s Go Purple Day to raise awareness about domestic abuse and promote healthy relationships. Each grade took part in faculty-led sessions focused on boundaries, support, and building healthy friendships.

LEADERSHIP

Yashar Koach to our students for arranging the following student led projects:

•Blood drive

•Chanukah Toy drive for Chai Lifeline

For those displaced or affected by the fires:

• Judaica drive

• Book drive

• Clothing drive

In a surprise assembly, our seniors, led by Moshe Razi ‘25 and Ariel Nikravesh ‘25 , presented Coach Raf and Mr. Hall with the gift of a new pair of tefillin. These two beloved faculty members—who are not just teachers, but part of our YULA family—have given so much to our students: participating on Shabbatonim and trips, modeling middot, and fully embracing the values of our yeshiva.

EDUCATION

YULA Seniors joined members of our community at the grand opening of the Los Angeles United Coalition of Jewish Voters ! The goal was to get out the word about the importance of voting and to encourage members of our community to do their civic duty and be engaged citizens on behalf of the Jewish people! Thank you to Mrs. Miriam Mark for organizing the event and for encouraging our newest voters to attend and show support!

ETHICAL LEADERSHIP SERIES

Our Ethical Leadership Series featured dynamic guest speakers who bring real-world experience to the classroom. Students gained practical insights into fields such as real estate, nonprofit leadership, and the entertainment industry— all shared through the lens of ethics, personal growth, and making a meaningful impact. Each session was designed to inspire students to pursue success with integrity and purpose.

ISRAEL EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY

In the wake of October 7 and amidst a rise in anti-Zionism and antisemitism in the U.S., YULA has prioritized two core goals: cultivating a deep, personal connection between students and the State of Israel, and equipping them to become confident, informed Zionist advocates. This year’s comprehensive programming has integrated education, activism, chessed, tefillah, and immersive experiences to meet these aims.

BUILDING CONNECTION TO ISRAEL

A key highlight this year was the commemoration of October 7, including visits to the Nova Exhibition and assemblies featuring freed hostage Andrey Kozlov. Students led meaningful memorials, prayer campaigns, and chessed initiatives. Throughout the year, students engaged in programs honoring hostages and fallen soldiers, with visits from IDF soldiers sharing firsthand experiences. Yom Hazikaron and Yom Haatzmaut featured emotional commemorations and celebrations of Israeli resilience and hope. Additional initiatives included the Cannes YULA Film Festival, student

missions to Israel, and personalized guidance toward gap year and IDF service.

EDUCATING CONFIDENT ZIONISTS

Academically, the 12th Grade ArabIsraeli Conflict course provided a foundation in Zionist history, media literacy, and advocacy skills. Students in grades 9–11 studied Jewish and Israeli history in depth. Advocacy initiatives included student-led lobbying, a weekly YIAC lunch club, and participation in national campaigns such as the World Zionist Congress elections and a coordinated letter-writing effort.

ARTS

DRAMA

Led by Margy Horowitz, YULA’s Performing Arts program brought three outstanding productions to the stage, each performed to enthusiastic, full-house audiences: Beauty and the Beast (Girls Musical, December 2024), Game of Tiaras (Girls Play, April 2025), and Art (Boys Play, May 2025). The Girls Musical featured nearly 60 students in the cast and crew—the highest participation in YULA history—highlighting the incredible passion and talent of our student body.

VISUAL ARTS

FELLOWSHIPS & PARTNERSHIPS

YULA students took part in fellowships with StandWithUs, AJC, Unpacked, and FIDF—gaining practical advocacy experience and bringing programming back to campus. Visiting educators, guest speakers, and partnerships further enhanced student learning and engagement. Daily tefillah included dedicated prayers for Israel and the hostages, reinforcing the spiritual connection to Am Yisrael.

Through these multifaceted efforts, YULA continues to raise the next generation of passionate, informed, and active supporters of Medinat Yisrael.

The Arts Department launched a revitalized 9th/10th Grade Arts Foundation course, now offering students a rotation through four disciplines: painting, photography, crafts, and digital design.

March’s Week of the Arts was a high-

light of the year, including a Shakespeare competition, a campus-wide art exhibition, a musical performance by faculty, and the creation of a communal poem.

Campus-wide projects celebrated Black History Month and Women’s History Month through large-scale collaborative murals. Yom HaShoah was honored with a poignant exhibit of hand-themed artworks, including sculptures and casts of students’ hands.

A striking, large-scale whale sculpture by Juliet Nesane ’26 was installed on campus, reflecting on the biblical story of and the importance of ocean conservation.

In a moving act of solidarity, students created a collaborative painting of poppies and other flowers, which

was sent to be displayed in Hostage Square, Israel.

The annual Arts Magazine featured its broadest range of media yet, with photography gracing the cover and works in fabric, printmaking, and plaster showcased inside.

MUSIC

This year’s music ensemble saw its highest band participation in recent years, culminating in a vibrant and well-attended Spring Concert that celebrated the dedication and growth of our student musicians.

See what our students and staff have to say about the new policy:

“Surprisingly, the cell phone policy was one of my favorite parts of senior year. I was so happy to be able to live in the moment and not feel the constant presence of my phone during my last year at YULA, when I really wanted to enjoy every moment.”

—Ayalah Garmaise ‘25

“I think the new phone policy has honestly really improved my school year. I have noticed a huge shift in communication during school in which now everyone is talking to each other instead of on their phones. There are a few inconveniences with the new phone policies but once we adjusted to them it really has been nothing but positive!”

Bella Uretsky ‘26

“I really think the phone policy has impacted me in a really positive way! I’ve been able to focus on being with my friends and talking to them during the school day rather than just being wrapped up in my phone.”

— Sarah Ryzman ’26

“The new phone policy has been far better than expected: at first we missed our phones—now we don’t miss what we were missing. The no phones policy made it easier to focus on class instead of screens.”

— Eitan Gershov ‘26

YULA TRANSITIONS TO A CELL PHONE FREE CAMPUS

The most notable change this year has been our new cell phone-free policy. Despite initial apprehensions, the transition has sparked a remarkable transformation in our learning environment. Unsolicited, countless students on both campuses have reported enhanced interactions and a renewed appreciation for deep, uninterrupted conversations. Teachers have shared that classroom discussions are more engaging, and breakfast/lunch is buzzing with conversations instead of text notifications, fostering a stronger sense of community and achdut.

This year, the YULA Panthers community mourned the loss of a beloved and devoted member, Dave Winik . Known and respected by generations of YULA students, athletes, and parents, Dave served faithfully as assistant coach under Ed Gelb throughout his tenure, and later as head coach of the varsity boys basketball team, alongside his former players Eli Hami ‘98 and Mike Pollack ‘03.

Dave was more than a coach, he was a trusted friend, a steady presence, and a mentor who left a lasting imprint on the YULA community. His commitment to his players was unwavering. Whether they were star athletes, role players, or saw limited minutes on the court, Dave be-

lieved in each of them and made sure they felt valued. His pride in the YULA athletes was deep and genuine.

Although no longer officially coaching at YULA in recent years, Dave remained a

loyal supporter, often attending games to cheer on his former player and current head coach, Mikey Pollack ‘03. His legacy endures in the lives he touched, the players he mentored, and the basketball program he helped build and loved so dearly.

Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, we will be dedicating the players’ bench, lovingly named the “Coach Winik Bench,” on the gym floor during our first home game next season. If you’d like to contribute to this special tribute, please contact our Development Office.

As part of a six-year cycle by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Accrediting Commission for Schools (WASC-ACS), we began our self-study in 2023–24 and hosted a visiting team for an on-site review in March. Every member of our incredible faculty, staff, and administration played a vital role in gathering data, reflecting on our practices, and showcasing the strength and spirit of our school.

FACULTY HIGHLIGHTS EXCELLENCE RECOGNIZED

Racheli Luftglass , Girls Division Judaic Studies Principal, was featured in a national podcast about finding our spiritual role models within the Torah and the deep lessons we can learn from our biblical figures.

YULA Rebbe, Rabbi Ari Bensoussan, served as Scholar-in-Residence at nine national programs this year. In addition to leading Chazak LA, a dynamic Sephardic outreach program, he delivered over 100 classes and podcasts through platforms such as Torah Anytime, Meaningful Minute and A-muse, reaching and inspiring thousands worldwide.

In partnership with the OU, YULA

We are proud to share that YULA High School has received a six-year extension of its accreditation. The visiting committee noted the following as some of the highlights of YULA:

• Dynamic, passionate, and visionary Head of School

• Cornucopia of academic and co-curricular programs

• Clear and mutually agreed Three Pillars

• Availability of administrators

• Experienced educators who genuinely care for students

• Educators dedicated to a rigorous curriculum who are dynamic role models

• Students love their rabbis, teachers, counselors, administrators, and classmates

• Students feel heard

• Benefits of cell phone policy

Thank you to our WASC Coordinator— Rick St. Laurent.

Rebbe, Rabbi Josh Maslow leads a community Semichas Chaver Program at LINK Kollel. SCP is an international learning program with an innovative and fast paced approach, focused on practical halacha. Director of Admissions and Marketing, Jesse Orenshein ‘14 , spoke as the Jewish Ninja Warrior at the largest CTeen International Shabbaton of all time, with over four thousand teens in attendance from around the world. Jesse also made his 4th appearance on the hit TV show, American Ninja Warrior, over the summer. The clip of Jesse pulling a back-up kippah out of his pocket when his YULA kippah fell in the water went viral on social media. A major kiddush Hashem!

Alexandra Novak , Director of Athletics, is raising the school’s profile statewide and nationally through her outstanding leadership. She serves on several key CIF Advisory Committees and was again selected as a National Faculty Instructor at the National Athletic Directors Conference. She is also developing a leadership course for the NIAAA to train athletic directors nationwide. Her work reflects a strong commitment to excellence and innovation in student-athlete development.

Hebrew teacher, Orly Zarur presented her doctoral research at the NRJE conference at UC Berkeley, sharing findings from a study of 474 students across five Jewish high schools. Her

presentation, “Gratitude as a Protective Factor for Adolescent Resilience, Happiness, Well-Being, and Anxiety,” showed that higher gratitude levels are linked to lower anxiety and greater emotional well-being, pointing to the value of gratitude-based interventions in schools.

English teacher, Candice Kelsey continues to make significant strides in her literary career. Her next full-length poetry book is set for publication this December, following the success of last year’s chapbook, which was nominated for a Georgia Writer of the Year Award. This summer, she was accepted into both the renowned Iowa Writers’ Workshop for poetry and the Kenyon Review workshop for fiction. Additionally, her poetry has received three Pushcart Prize nominations.

This past year, the School Parent Council undertook a variety of meaningful initiatives aimed at enhancing communication, fostering community building, and increasing parent involvement . Among the highlights were parent socials that offered opportunities for parents to connect and get to know each other. Monthly Rosh Chodesh treats were organized for the staff as a gesture of appreciation and to boost morale. The Parent Council also coordinated special appreciation days to honor the school’s dedicated security team, maintenance crew, and teachers, recognizing their vital roles in the school community.

PARENT EDUCATION

The Boys Division held an inspiring pre-Chanukah Father-Son Learning event, focusing on the concept of mehadrin min hamehadrin, with strong

participation from fathers, grandfathers, alumni, and rebbeim.

The Girls Division hosted its Annual Yom Iyun , where students and parents enjoyed breakfast and attended themed classes titled “Illuminate to Elevate,” taught by faculty members.

Ziva Plattner once again led the popular Ulpan for Moms , offering a fun and engaging way for parents to practice Hebrew and connect with one another. The group met every Monday.

Rabbi Dr. Menachem Hecht led a Monday morning learning series for YULA parents titled “Crash Course on Jewish History.” The Parent Book Club , led by Ms. Yehudis Benhamou marked their second year, drawing in enthusiastic parent participation.

We are deeply grateful and extend tremendous hakarat hatov to our exceptional Lay Leaders, Seth Berkowitz, David Nagel, Alan Gindi , and the entire Board of Directors . In March, we were honored to welcome the Decron team to the Nagel Family Campus for a special dinner celebrating their remarkable partnership and friendship with YULA. The evening featured a student-led tour of Gelman Hall, hands-on experiences in our Art Studio and STEAM Lab, and a meaningful dinner shared together.

Looking forward to the 16th Annual Decron Golf Tournament on October 28th!

At this year’s Annual Trustees Event, commemorating YULA’s 45th anniversary, we had the privilege of honoring the visionary founders, Rabbi Marvin and Mrs. Malka Hier and Rabbi Meyer and Mrs. Shulamith May , true pioneers whose unwavering dedication has reshaped the landscape of Jewish education in Los Angeles. Their enduring legacy continues to guide and inspire future generations, and this milestone event gave us the opportunity to reflect on 45 years of impact while looking ahead with gratitude and purpose. FINANCIAL REPORTING

COMMITTED TO JEWISH EDUCATION

For the past four years, YULA has successfully kept tuition unchanged—a remarkable milestone that highlights our deep commitment to affordability and the enduring strength of our community’s shared values. In a time marked by inflation and the growing demands of academic and extracurricular programs, maintaining steady tuition reflects our unwavering focus on making a YULA education accessible to as many families as possible.

This achievement is the result of the forward-thinking vision of our Board of Directors, the strategic leadership of our administration, and the exceptional generosity of our donors—whose support makes this possible.

Thanks to this initiative, the YULA community has collectively saved approximately $3.5 million in tuition costs, all while we have continued to invest significantly in our educational programming and campus facilities. We’re proud to announce that YULA will be extending this initiative into a fifth consecutive year.

EXPANDS WITH NEW PROPERTY ACQUISITION

We are thrilled to announce the purchase of an additional property for the YULA Girls Division —a transformative milestone in our school’s history and a powerful step forward in our mission to provide an outstanding environment for our students to learn, grow, and thrive.

This achievement would not have been possible without the visionary leadership and generous financial support of Barbara and Alan Gindi

More detailed information about the future use of the campus and construction plans will be shared as it becomes available.

CLASSROOM DEDICATION

Thank you to Sandra and Avy Azeroual, Vanessa and Mike Aze-

roual, and the entire Azeroual family for their generous dedication of a classroom in the Nagel Family Boys Campus in loving memory of Amram ben Ada z”l , a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. This meaningful tribute ensures that his legacy will live on in a place of Torah, learning, and growth for generations to come.

FITNESS ROOM

The Boys Fitness Room has been dedicated in memory of Joe Setton z’’l , thanks to the generous support of Mia and Harris Cohen , who made this dedication in honor of Mia’s brother. Construction to enhance the space began this summer, and the newly improved Fitness Room will be ready for students to use in the fall.

DAVE WINIK BENCH

In honor of Coach Dave Winik’s legacy, we will name the YULA basketball court bench the Coach Winik Bench , with his name proudly painted on the sideline —a tribute to the countless hours he

spent inspiring our students. At the upcoming season’s opening home game, we will host an Alumni Night and induct Coach Dave into the YULA Hall of Fame in front of his family, celebrating his lasting impact. Thank you to the many alumni who have already contributed their support to this campaign.

Sanford and Beverly Deutsch were instrumental in laying the foundation for the Modern Orthodox community that has flourished in the greater Los Angeles Area. Their philanthropic leadership includes starting Rambam High School, the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Yeshivat Yavneh and serving as President of Sharei Tefillah and of the Orthodox Union. Eleven of their grandchildren have attended YULA. Their granddaughter, Pammy Talansky ’02, joined YULA’s Board this year, proudly continuing her grandparents’ legacy of leadership and advocacy for Jewish education.

We are indeed grateful for our donors who have had the vision to ensure YULA’s vibrancy well into the future through the establishment of our endowment fund. We are looking forward to continued growth of this important fund, which will continue to have an impact on our school for generations to come.
