TRANSPORTATION BY CAR: Take the Periférico exit between Jacinto Canek and Umán, continue on to Tetíz, Kinchil and then Celestún. There are signs along the way, and you can use the map on page 22.
Otro punto de interés en esta zona es el bosque petrificado Tampetén, que es un lugar un tanto extraño dado que se conserva únicamente los troncos de los árboles que yerguen calcinados con sus raíces sumergidas en el agua.
The main attraction in Celestún is to hire a boat to go to the ría to see the flamingos. There are boats located at the entrance to Celestún and another group on the beach by the La Palapa Restaurant and also at Restaurante La Sirena. Please don’t get too close to the flamingos. These pink beauties need to eat about 12 hours a day. If you scare them and make them fly, they lose important energy. They can also break their necks or wings if they are frightened into flight. Tour prices up to 6 passengers: one hour $1,200 pesos and two hours $1,500 pesos.

Puedes contratar los paseos a la ría en el puesto que queda en la entrada de Celestún o en la playa por el restaurante La Palapa y también en el restaurante La Sirena. El grupo que sale de la playa ofrece un paseo más largo. Tarifas hasta 6 pasajeros: una hora $1,200 pesos y dos horas $1,500 pesos. Por favor, no le pidas a los guías que se acerquen demasiado a los flamingos, ya que necesitan comer unas 12 horas al día; si los asustas o los haces volar, pierden mucha energía.

Celestún es zona primaria de cortejo del flamingo rosado durante el otoño e invierno. También hay muchas otras especies de aves migratorias que visitan esta zona para la temporada invernal.
