THE YTL SCHOLAR AFTER GRADUATION

Your academic degree matters to us, but we believe it takes much more than an academic qualification alone to shape young, caring and passionate leaders. This is why YTL Foundation will invest in you during your course of study and beyond. We will provide you with training, internships, mentoring and access to a global community of scholars to complement your education, build your confidence and prepare you for the workplace.

Upon graduation you will be fast tracked to interview for a role with YTL and if successful, be bonded to the company for between 5-7 years.

This level of job continuity can provide you with the confidence of a secure foundation from which you can thrive in your career.

A GLOBAL COMMUNITY YTL Foundation aims to build a strong community of scholars who work as a collective force to make a difference. We create opportunities for you to make new friends with your peers. Get-togethers are organised and a closed group Facebook page is created for you to communicate and lend support to each other.

This community starts as soon as you are accepted into the programme. You will take part in an induction programme to get to know YTL and other scholars in a fun and welcoming environment.

BUILD YOUR SKILLS Our scholars gain unique, interactive experiences aimed at supporting their personal growth in skills which are vital to success in the workplace. The opportunity to participate in the innovative and creative programmes that YTL Foundation and the YTL Group run in primary and secondary schools will also provide you with skill sets that will help support your personal growth.

HANDS ON EXPERIENCE The best way to learn is through hands on experience, which is why we create internships for our scholars within the YTL Group each year. You may gain exposure to event management, infrastructure development, business activities and/or educational programmes. Your internship will give you a clearer idea of the YTL work culture and what it is like to work for a company running a diversified global business.

THE LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME Our scholars go through a leadership programme during which they have the opportunity to gain exposure to senior leaders within the YTL Group and are empowered to develop their confidence and intrinsic leadership capabilities. You will be coached over the course of your academic career to continue in your personal development with the goal of helping you realise your full potential.

Caryl is our first Yeoh Tiong Lay Scholar, who started studying law at the University of Cambridge in 2015.

What was your experience of applying for a scholarship?

The process was a lot less formal than other scholarship applications and more personal. I felt relaxed, and could tell that being a YTL Scholar is different than being a scholar for another company.

David successfully graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2011 and 6 years on, he works as a Senior Project Engineer in the M&E Department of YTL Construction.

What difference has the YTL Scholarship made to your life?

Having the opportunity to further my studies has allowed me to be more independent and broadened my views on the world.

What opportunities have you had since working at YTL? The most interesting thing about working in YTL for me is that I have been fortunate to work on various types of projects thus far and every project is unique and challenging in its own way.

This whole chapter of my life! I wouldn’t have been able to come to Cambridge and study here without the scholarship. YTL wants to make a difference in their scholars’ lives, to help them grow and develop, and my family are happy I’m getting the extra support.

What does the future hold for you?

I hope to continue picking up different skills, and I’m looking forward to seeing the reality of working for the company whether at YTL Foundation, Frog Asia or the Legal Department.

Currently we are building the new YTL HQ Towers in Bukit Bintang; I am excited and thankful to be working on the next new landmark of KL’s skyline.

HOW DO I GET SELECTED? After the application has been submitted, the applications will be reviewed after the closing date. If you are shortlisted you will receive an email inviting you to undergo an assessment process.

Should you be successful in the assessment you will be invited for a second stage interview with a panel of interviewers.

WHAT NEXT? Once you have been selected, you will be required to sign a scholarship agreement setting out the terms and conditions of your scholarship as a YTL Scholar. This will include a bond under which you will serve as an employee of a YTL Group company for a period of time.
