Faces of Tourism: Talking Bear While most of the faces of tourism are welcoming, this one has more of a fierce demeanor, but is loved by locals and visitors alike. The Talking Bear in Oakhurst is a fixture in this foothill community. it’s a landmark people use to help guide visitors to the town, and an attraction that has a tremendous following. Located at the intersection of Highway 41 and Road 426, the Talking Bear has been a mainstay here for more than 55 years. Originally brought here by the Shollenbarger brothers to promote their real estate business, the Talking Bear now lives in front of Century 21 Ditton Realty, regaling all who push the button about the history of bears in Oakhurst. Countless people take their photos with the Talking Bear, and he even has a Facebook page with nearly 5,000 friends. While in Oakhurst, be sure to add your picture to his collection.
