Zacchaeus was a tax collector, so his job was to take people’s money and give it to the Romans who ruled his home town, Jericho.

Zacchaeus didn’t have many friends.

People didn’t like him because they knew he was greedy and made himself rich with their money.

When Jesus was on earth, he went from town to town, telling people about God and doing amazing things. Zacchaeus was very excited when he heard Jesus was coming to Jericho!

The day came, and Zacchaeus was in the crowd.

But he was short, and although he stretched and strained as high as he could, he just couldn’t see even a glimpse of Jesus.

‘What am I going to do? I really want to see Jesus!’

Zacchaeus thought. But then he had an idea. ‘I’ll be able to see him if I climb up this sycamore tree!’
