Celebrating

25 years of youth volunteerism...

1987

2012 Annual Report Calvin (pictured in the center front) was sitting in an inner-city Kansas City, Missouri, high school in the spring of 1987 when he heard a presentation about a new summer volunteer program. He answered the challenge by serving a whopping 236 hours over eight weeks that summer at two urban community centers. Calvin was an extraordinary role model for hundreds of at-risk children that summer. Little did he or anyone else know that he was blazing a trail for hundreds of thousands of teenagers who would go on to serve over the next 25 years with Youth Volunteer Corps.

2012 Before serving with YVC, Natalie struggled with extreme shyness. Through icebreakers and reflection activities before and after YVC projects, she was eventually put in situations where she would have to share her thoughts and feelings. Natalie went on to serve more than 400 hours with YVC of Alpena, serving as the president of their Youth Advisory Council before she graduated this year. Natalie’s just one of the hundreds of thousands of youth who have made a difference in their communities and transformed themselves through YVC.

. . . and looking forward to 25 more!

25th Anniversary Celebrations Thousands of youth across the YVC network spent their summers doing the same thing that the first YVC volunteers did in 1987—making a difference in their communities.
