THE ULTIMATE HYDRATION:

WHYWATERISTHEHEALTHIEST "FOOD"ANDHOWTOCHOOSE THEBESTTYPE

Have you ever thought about what the healthiest food in the world is? You may be thinking it is probably vegetables, but you are thinking wrong. According to the UCSF Health Organization, water is the healthiest food. But is water even a food? We find the answer on LinkedIn, where they say that although water doesn’t have calories, it is still considered food since it consists of nutrients and minerals essential for our body.

But what type of water is the best to consume for health?

Not dirty water or ocean water, as they may cause sickness and can damage your body.

According to research done by MedicineNet, alkaline water is the best for consumption since it contains more minerals and nutrients. However, it may be a little overpriced for some people, so they prefer tap water. There is no problem with this if your tap water is well-filtered for use.

What about the minerals in water since that is what makes it healthy?**

Water contains calcium, magnesium, sodium, fluoride, potassium, iron, and zinc. As you can see, water has almost all the essential nutrients for your body, which is why scientists say, “water is life.”

What if the water we consume is dirty?

If we drink dirty or unhealthy water, we can get diseases and sicknesses as mentioned above. But what types of sicknesses? We can get many types of illnesses depending on the level of contamination in the water. Some of these illnesses include cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid, and polio. In extreme cases, consuming highly contaminated water can even lead to cancer.

Water Purification Techniques

To ensure safe and healthy drinking water, effective purification techniques like filtration, boiling, distillation, and UV light treatment are commonly used. Filtration removes contaminants, boiling kills pathogens, distillation eliminates impurities, and UV light alters microorganisms' DNA. Combining these methods can provide the best results for water purity.

EDISON VS TESLA: THE BATTLE

FOR ELECTRICAL SUPREMACY

We all know that Edison and Tesla were among the greatest inventors of the nineteenth century, but who was truly the better inventor, and did both receive the recognition they deserved? These are questions that often arise.

Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) worked for Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931) for about a year but left due to financial disputes. During this period, Tesla honed his engineering skills while simultaneously addressing issues with Edison’s direct current (DC) system. He soon recognized

drawbacks of DC, noting its expense and inefficiency. Frustrated by delayed bonus payments, Tesla resigned from his position.

The War of Currents

Edison developed direct current, which flows continuously in one direction but is difficult to adjust to different voltages. Tesla’s alternating current (AC) offered a solution. Unlike DC, AC reverses direction multiple times per second and can be easily adjusted using a transformer. Additionally, AC was more costefficient, outperforming DC in nearly every aspect except safety, as it posed more danger due to its multiple points of entry into the body.

Edison, realizing that AC threatened his patent royalties, quickly retaliated. He spread misinformation and even publicly electrocuted stray animals with AC to demonstrate its dangers. Such actions were ruthless.

Tesla worked independently, making his accomplishments and inventions more impressive. Edison, however, employed a team of engineers and inventors and took credit for their work

While some of Edison’s inventions were genuinely his, he was often driven by profit motives and focused more on business strategies. Many of his so-called inventions were improvements on existing ones, but he skillfully manipulated the media to secure credit and patents.

Contributions and Achievements

Both inventors made significant contributions. Edison is renowned for developing practical electric lighting, which transformed public and private spaces, and the phonograph, which revolutionized sound recording and playback. His work laid the foundation for many modern technologies.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.
Thomas Edison

Tesla, on the other hand, was a visionary whose innovations in alternating current power systems enabled the widespread distribution of electricity. His experiments and ideas about wireless energy were ahead of his time and have had a lasting impact on technology.

The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine Nikola Tesla

not receive the recognition he deserved. Despite his lab being burned down, Tesla continued his quest to provide free energy to the world. He was a visionary, often misunderstood by his contemporaries, which made his inventions seem impractical. Edison died a millionaire, thanks to patents, many of which were the result of his hired inventors' work. Known for his lightbulb invention, Edison’s creation was actually an improved version of Humphry Davy’s lightbulb.

Tesla, on the other hand, died penniless, with little recognition for his contributions. He was seen as a mad scientist, but in reality, he was a genius. Tesla had the potential to revolutionize the world if not for the greedy investors who hindered his progress. His Croatian heritage also led to a lack of acceptance by the American media, which, along with Edison’s media manipulation, made Tesla’s inventions seem more dangerous than they were. Comparing Tesla to Edison seems unfair when considering the true extent of their contributions. In my opinion, Edison was overcredited, while Tesla did

THE GIANT SHARK THAT RULED THE ANCIENT SEAS Dscoverng the Megalodon

Megalodon (also known as "big tooth") is an extinct species of giant mackerel shark that lived approximately 23 to 3.9 million years ago. It was first identified by Swiss-born American Louis Agassiz. Megalodons were formerly thought to be closely related to the white shark but have since been reclassified into the extinct family of Otodontidae, which diverged from the great white shark during the early Cretaceous. Megalodons had a major impact on the structure of marine communities.

Did you know that more than 100 years ago, a massive creature lived underwater? In the text below, you will find out about this giant creature.

Megalodons were roughly 60 feet in length and weighed up to 50 tons, the size and weight of a railroad car. Female megalodons were larger on average, at about 44 to 56 feet (13-17 m), while males were about 34 to 47 feet (10-14 m). Megalodons were adapted to warm tropical and subtropical locations around the globe. The species was so widespread that megalodon teeth have been found on every continent except Antarctica.

Zehra Taniskan Content writer

What did Megalodons eat on a daily basis?

It is predicted that they targeted large prey such as whales, dolphins, sea turtles, and seals. Megalodons ate around 2,500 pounds of food a day. Unlike the great white shark, which typically attacks

its prey from the soft underside, Megalodons likely used their strong jaws to break through the chest cavity and puncture the heart and lungs of their prey.

How important and long were the Megalodon's teeth?

Megalodon teeth were estimated to be 2.7 by 3.4 meters wide. These wide jaws were lined with 276 teeth. Their teeth have also been used in ancient times around 450 BC for knives, jewelry, and funeral accessories.

What caused the Megalodon to go extinct?

These giant marine creatures went extinct due to the cooling of the planet and shifting food-chain dynamics. Megalodons typically ate whales, which migrate to Antarctica for the abundant krill (small shrimp) that serve as vital food sources. Because Megalodons couldn't survive in cold waters, they had less access to their primary food sources, contributing to their extinction. A Few Tips to Avoid Wastefulness

As a consumer, it is almost impossible to completely avoid the Diderot Effect, but recognizing this effect and understanding how it is used in advertisements are the first steps toward becoming a conscious consumer. Here are a few tips to avoid unnecessary spending:

When you like a product, consider whether it is compatible with your existing belongings. Also, evaluate whether the product you are considering buying will trigger other purchases.

When you like a product, wait a few days. Do you really need it, or do you just want to buy it because you like it?

Clarify your thoughts on this matter. Instead of shopping on weekends, try to spend time in natural environments.

Like Diderot, look at your old belongings and remember who you truly are and what makes you happy.

Unlockng the Secrets of Sleep

HOW YOUR REST HABITS SHAPE YOUR HEALTH?

How is your sleep schedule? Do you sleep more or less than 7 hours a day? At what hours do you go to bed? All these factors play a huge role in your physical and mental health. While the amount of sleep you need varies according to age, most resources, such as Mayo Clinic, agree that an adult needs at least 7 hours of sleep every night. So, what are the effects of sleeping more or less than that?

For some days, it is inevitable to sleep less. Situations like attending a social event that lasts until late hours or

staying awake to finish an important assignment while still having to wake up early the next morning can force us to sleep less than usual. However, sleeping less more often than just ‘sometimes’ is a big threat to our health.

Sleeping is a time when our body repairs and restores itself, mostly mentally. It is an important time for our brain to organize the data we have, which is a process that critically affects our memory and focus. Similarly, not getting enough sleep results in a lack of these two, which affects us in different aspects where memory and focus play a huge role, such as our decision-making, judgment, and alertness.

Halime Hatice Karakuș Content writer

Though not as much as it does mentally, little sleep can also have significant impacts on your physical health. Our bodies restore themselves physically in sleep as well. Not giving enough time for our body to carry out these processes can show itself through paler skin, dark under-eye circles, acne, and headaches. Of course, low energy throughout the day is inevitable as well. All these negative impacts are likely to result in unwanted mental disorders such as depression or anxiety.

Aside from sleeping less, have you ever woken up from nearly 10 hours of sleep with an overwhelming headache and a feeling of guilt that bothers you?

Excessive sleeping can be just as harmful as sleeping less. It has similar side effects like lack of concentration, headaches, fatigue, and physical disorders like heart disease. Sleeping too much would also be a big waste of time, as it will take a huge part of your lifetime. In the end, like everything else, sleep duration should also be balanced.

An interesting fact is that many geniuses or rulers with a great impact on history had variable sleeping times, not even anywhere near 7 hours. Isaac Newton, for example, the scientist known for his discoveries on gravity and other subjects, used to sleep for 3 to 4 hours a day and lived until his mid-80s. Similarly, Yavuz Sultan Selim, the ninth ruler of the Ottoman Empire who conquered about 4,182,000 kilometers of land in only 8 years, used to sleep about 4 hours a day. Conquering that many lands or discovering things that have an undeniably huge impact on the world of science and mathematics sure needs a lot of energy and mental stability. On the other hand, Albert Einstein, surely at least heard of by everyone, is said to have slept 10 hours per night, with daytime naps on top of that.

Determining the right amount of sleep is essential for wellbeing as it is subjective and impacted by diet and daily routines. Individual sleep needs play a significant role in quality of life and should be prioritized.

Its Beauty

When we think of "Africa," some might immediately associate it with poverty, underdevelopment, or negativity, but these are misconceptions. In reality, Africa is the opposite. You might ask, "How?" or "What do you mean?" These negative views are often shaped by misleading portrayals in the media.

Africa is home to incredibly diverse landscapes, rich in minerals, and blessed with breathtaking geographical beauty.

The continent boasts famous rivers, lakes, plants, deserts, mountains, and more. It encompasses every type of natural environment imaginable, making it one of the most spectacular places on Earth.

Its History

Africa's history is both fascinating and tragic. It’s remarkable because it weaves together the histories of many countries and has preserved ancient castles and structures throughout the years.

Mehlika Goren Content writer

Did you know?

Here, depicted is the "Door of Return," which is, in fact, the reverse side of the door. Its significance lies in the commemoration of the 1998 Emancipation Day in Ghana. During this event, two human bones symbolizing enslaved Africans –one from Jamaica and the other from New York – were brought back to Ghana. This act symbolized the return of these individuals to their homeland, representing a poignant aspect of African history.

However, the sadness in Africa’s history comes from the suffering endured during periods of slavery and colonization. Many were enslaved, tortured, and lost their freedom, which marks a painful chapter in its past.

Today, there is also a “Door of Return,” commemorating the 1998 “Emancipation Day” in Ghana. This symbolic door honors the return of the remains of two enslaved Africans from Jamaica and New York, representing the connection between Africa and its descendants abroad.

One poignant example is the "Cape Coast Castle" in Ghana. Built by the British, it was used to capture and train enslaved people. The “Door of No Return” was a grim exit point through which the captured were shipped off to be enslaved in other lands. Originally a small doorway designed to ensure accurate counting of the enslaved, it has since been enlarged for tourists.

FASHION

TheIconcLttleBlack Dress

The "little black dress" (LBD), a cornerstone of the Chanel brand, was designed by Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel in 1926. Fashion designers universally agree that every woman should own a simple, elegant black dress, versatile enough for any occasion, from cocktail parties to work events. Paired with stylish accessories, the LBD can transform effortlessly; add a jacket for a professional look or stunning jewelry for a glamorous night out.

In 1926, Coco Chanel introduced the LBD in American Vogue, where it was dubbed "Chanel's Ford." Just as the Model T made automobiles accessible to the middle class, Chanel's calf-length black dress became a stylish, accessible option for all women. This design redefined black, shedding its association with mourning and reinventing it as a symbol of elegance and sophistication.

Coco Chanel drew inspiration from her disdain for the limited

use of black. She aimed to demonstrate the color's versatility and elegance, leading to its widespread adoption by Hollywood stars. The LBD replaced the somber connotations of black with ideas of nobility, confidence, and style.

Hollywood's embrace of the LBD, especially during the rise of Technicolor films, solidified its place in fashion. Filmmakers preferred the LBD because it looked impeccable on screen, unlike other colors that . that distorted. During World War II, the LBD remained popular due to textile rationing and its practicality as a uniform for women entering the workforce. The Little Black Dress, dating back to 1926, has been continuously adapted through the generations, maintaining its popularity and timeless appeal.
