I would like to express my utmost appreciation and profound gratitude for each and every parent and student who believed in us and joined our school.

Everything in and about the school has been designed to provide a safe & orderly environment in which all students can learn effectively and pleasantly.

Personal Belongings It is highly recommended that all personal belongings be labelled with the student’s name. Jackets, sweaters, P.E. uniforms, logo shirts, book bags, lunch bags, purses, etc. can be returned to the rightful owner when they are properly identified.

Your Support of Regular Attendance Never keep your child away from school for any reason other than serious illness. Students are expected to attend school regularly and attend all classes.

Parents are urged to schedule medical, dental and other appointments after school hours or during vacations.

Support the School When It Takes Corrective Action When the school takes corrective action (detention, deprived of break… etc.), it is for the student’s best interest. If you support us reluctantly, you will only strengthen wrong attitudes towards the school and the credibility of the administration decisions.

DELF and FIT Tests ISEE is an examination center. We host students from different schools across the country who would like to sit for the French and German Proficiency Tests DELF and FIT. The DELF is a diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education to prove the French-language skills of non-French candidates.

Similarly, the Goethe-Zertifikat A1: FIT in Deutsch 1 and A2 - FIT in Deutsch 2 examinations provethe German-language skills of non-German candidates.

Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) The PTA, through the generous support of parents who volunteer, to support the school and students’ programs. Meetings are held regularly during the year and are announced through ISEE e-News.

PTA members support numerous activities for the school community throughout the year.

Communications between School and Home ISEE has a firm understanding of the benefits of parental engagement. Working together we become ‘a school without walls’ where students learn and grow in all surroundings.

1. RenWeb and Email RenWeb is ISEE official means of communication. Parents and students are expected to check RenWeb & their emails on a daily basis. ISEE will not be responsible for any miscommunication resulting from failure of checking updated information.

Since emails have become an integral means of communication between parents and staff, we have set a new email policy to minimize the inconvenience caused to both parents and teachers.  Teachers will not send or reply to emails after working hours.  Any email will be replied to within 2 working days.  Any urgent messages for Class Teachers are to be sent in the channel notebook and not by email.  Any messages to administration should be directly communicated to administration via email or phone.  WhatsApp is not an official means of communication and will be ignored by staff. If this is violated, a meeting will be held with the Managing Director.  Discussing the school affairs on any social media will be considered slander.

2. Open Door Policy a. Parents are welcome to come to school to meet with the Managing Director anytime without previous appointment on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. b. If you would like to discuss a specific issue, please contact the Stage Principal’s Office to schedule an appointment on Mondays. c. Access to teachers has been scheduled during break time on Mondays.

3. Channel Notebook This is a daily record of homework and special assignments. Since it is a means of communication between home and teachers, please check daily and sign if a message is sent.

4. Change of Address or Telephone Number It is important that ISEE is able to contact parents at any time; therefore, it is necessary to have parents’ updated home address, email address, home and mobile numbers on file. The accuracy of this information is vital in the case of an emergency. If you change your address or phone number, please inform the Stage Principal. We also request a phone number of a friend or relative we can call if we cannot reach the parents. At the start of the school year, we will send an Emergency Contact Sheet home with your child, please return this as quickly as possible. If your details change, it is YOUR responsibility to update the school.

5. Early Dismissal No early dismissals are allowed except in emergencies.

If your child wishes to stay after school for rehearsals, remedial classes, Parent-Teacher meetings, special events, or, if you also request any change of bus or pick up location (only on Thursdays or in case of emergency), an email to elem.trans.request@eliteeducation-eg.com is requested.

NO PHONE CALLS OR REQUESTS AFTER 12:00 P.M. WILL BE ACCEPTED. 6. Deadlines The deadlines for reports and reserving places for picnics or trips should be observed and respected. Also, deadlines for school fees payments should be abided by without delays nor reminders.

Assessment and Reporting Assessment at ISEE is both formative (assessing the developmental progress) and summative (assessing the final outcome). A student’s progress is evaluated and reported using a variety of assessments, including projects, presentations, tests and assessments, essays, journals, class participation, and more.

Grading System The grading system of the Elementary Stage is on student effort, application, and assessment.

4. A minimum of 3 quizzes is done per trimester in Mathematics and English.

A minimum of 2 quizzes is done in all other subjects.

5. The material included in each assessment is sent to students prior to the scheduled date.

6. Parents are informed of the dates and the material included in each assessment.

Homework Policy Homework is an essential part of your successful educational program at ISEE. Doing homework will help you develop many valuable skills such as good study habits, time management, responsibility and perseverance.

Teachers will assign homework that will foster individual learning and growth and that is appropriate for the subject area. Homework is part of all students’ regular evaluations. It is your responsibility to complete and turn in homework on time. If you or your parents have questions about homework, immediately contact the teacher who assigned it. Homework will be given regularly by ISEE teachers and students are expected to complete homework assignments.

• Keep all your books and sheets neat and organized, and put effort in your homework.

• Teachers will refrain from correcting any messy sheets or hastily done homework even if it is before a quiz or test. It will be returned to the student immediately.

• No late assignments will be collected nor corrected.

• If a child cannot complete a homework assignment because of illness or other extenuating circumstances, the parent should write a note requesting that the student be given extra time to complete the work.

Learning Support The School will provide ESL (English Language) and Mathematics remedial classes for students who need to upgrade and improve their language proficiency and mathematical skills.

Reports to Parents Reports can be viewed on RenWeb in Term I & Term II; however, a hard copy is received at the end of the year. Please check dates in the calendar.

Volunteers (Coaching and Sponsoring Student Activities) The school needs parent volunteers in various ways. No experience is needed and the amount of time given is arranged to best suit the volunteer. The duties and activities requested of volunteers can be arranging cultural visits, field trips, helping in orientation days, sport days, bazaars and community service activities. If you have a business or a place and you are willing to have us visit, then please let us know. We always try to provide our students with new exciting places and trips. If you are interested, please contact the Stage Principal.

Visitors All visitors must first check in at the main office and wear a visitor’s badge before going to other parts of the school.

Private Lessons • Private tutoring is absolutely rejected and discouraged by our administration.

• If your child encounters any learning difficulties, discuss his/her problem with the Stage Principal for education council.

• If extra assistance is needed, the school will arrange remedial classes.

• No ISEE teacher may tutor his/her own student

Medical Service ISEE has a full time doctor on campus. Parents are required to complete a medical form as part of the admissions process for each student. This information is needed to ensure that students are able to function safely and comfortably in school. The School Doctor will request updated medical records, as needed. All records are kept confidential. In case of emergency, the school has the right to take any necessary action if the school could not reach both parents and the emergency contact.

Only the School Doctor is authorized to administer prescription and nonprescription medications to students. All medications and treatments require clear, written instructions by physician’s order, as needed, and a parent/guardian’s signature. The School Doctor will assist the parent by preparing a plan of care for their child and advising them as to what supplies the student will need at school.

If you are contacted by the school to pick up your sick child, please make every effort to do so promptly.

As a rule of thumb, your child should stay home for any of the following:  A fever more than 37.7 C; must be fever free for 24 hours without fever medication.  Vomited more than once; feeling of nausea.  Diarrhea (return to school after 48 hours or 24 hours on medication).  A frequent cough; productive cough.  Persistent pain (ear, stomach, etc.)  A widespread rash; contagious rash or skin spots.  Head lice (Pediculosis) please notify the School Doctor to be given proper instructions.  Bacterial Pink Eye/Conjunctivitis; awakens in the morning with thick or sticky eye drainage; eye lashes stuck; redness of the whites of the eyes throughout; can return to school after 24 hours of physician prescribed treatment.

If your child has an out-patient procedure or surgery, you must provide a physician’s certificate stating when they can safely return to school and with any limitations/instructions.

Helpful Reminders     

Encourage your child to eat breakfast every day before school.

Make sure your child gets 8 or more hours of sleep each night.

Always send your child with a refillable water bottle.

Encourage good hand-washing before and after meals, after toileting, etc.

Please inform the school if your child has any allergies.

Tardiness and Absence Incidents of tardiness to school and class will result in warning, contact with parents and possible loss of break times to make up missing learning opportunities. We bear in mind that parents are primarily responsible for punctuality at the start of the day, but children are responsible for themselves throughout the day.

Tardiness Tardiness to school and class is unacceptable. Students are expected to be on time for all their periods.

• Tardiness to School: Tardiness is disruptive to both teachers and students. If you arrive late at school, go immediately to the Stage Principal’s Office and not head straight to your class. Students who are tardy more than 2 times will not be allowed to attend the first lesson. If tardiness is frequent, after school detentions will be assigned.

• Tardiness to Class: The student must present an excuse slip from the teacher who detained him/her.

Absence Absence is ONLY allowed, in case of serious illness, emergencies or sports competition. The excuse will be filed as part of the student’s school record.

In case of illness, the school requires a medical certificate. Please check RenWeb when your child is absent to catch up with what he/she missed.

• Frequent Absence If a student’s absence exceeds 6 days for no serious reason, he/she is then violating a school policy. Students need to be aware that frequent absence, even for valid reasons, can make it impossible for the teachers to assess his/ her progress. In case of frequent absence and when several tests are missed, no make-up tests will be given and the credit will be lost.

• Make-up Tests No make-up quizzes will be given to absent students; however, if a student misses a test, he/she has to present a documented excuse for his/her absence to the school administration.

In this case, a make-up test will be given after school hours, and parents will be requested to pick up their child.

Cheating We must teach students that cheating is not in their best interest and that cheating will not be tolerated.

The following list represents forms of cheating that will be dealt with: • Taking information of any form into a test for the purpose of answering test questions, or for the purpose of assisting others in answering test questions.

• Plagiarism.

• Copying assignments, including homework, book reports, or projects.

• Giving or taking of information concerning a test after one individual has taken a test and the same is to be given in another classroom.

• Talking or exchanging of information during a test.

When substantial proof has been obtained that a student or group of students has been involved in cheating, the student(s) will receive an “F” or “zero” on the assignment/test and parents will be contacted.

Code of Student Conduct This handbook has been developed to inform you of the policies, procedures, and organizations of your school. We hope that it will assist you in making your school days pleasant and productive. It is the responsibility of each student and parent to read, understand, and abide by this handbook.

Conduct Information It is our belief that discipline is one of the cornerstones of a good education. To ensure good discipline, a close, co-operative relationship must exist between home and school. The ISEE discipline policy provides close communication with parents at the onset of discipline problems.

Firm but Fair is the basis for our disciplinary code. Guidelines are provided in order to foster mutual respect and co-operation within the school setting. ISEE seriously takes its responsibility to educate students in a safe environment where students are free from fear of harm, bullying, intimidation, foul language, aggression, or any act against our values or culture.

All students at ISEE have the right to feel physically and emotionally safe.

Therefore, if at any time you feel that your child is a subject of bullying, threat or other intimidating behavior, you should immediately ask your child to speak to the Stage Principal about the problem. The situation will be investigated as soon as possible. All reports will be kept completely confidential. ISEE commits to its students that all reported incidents of bullying, harassment or other forms of anti-social behavior by one student or group of students towards another will be taken seriously and death with sensitivity.

Students must make choices for themselves and be responsible for their own behavior as well as their academic performance. Students who make poor choices cannot and should not place blame on parents, the school, or peers.

Although the school will help students develop good decision making skills, ultimately, the future is determined by each student’s own actions.

Uniform Code Students are expected to wear the ISEE uniform at all times and to dress and groom themselves to reflect neatness and cleanliness.

One of the advantages of school uniforms is for identification. When you wear your uniform, you can be identified as an ISEE student. School uniforms also allow you to focus on what you are at school to do – learn – and not on the current fashion.  Students should wear blue trousers only sold at the school uniform store.  Jackets have to be plain navy blue – no stripes or badges will be accepted.

Only plain navy blue.  Students should wear shoes restricted to regular colors (black, white, blue, and grey). Neon eccentric colors are not allowed.  Boots, Crocs and Uggs are not allowed.  Students are allowed to come out of school uniform 3 times a year; - Last school day before Christmas & New Year Celebration (Winter Break) - Last day before Spring Break - Last school day (end of school year) (Appropriate and decent outfits are required; otherwise students will be asked to leave school) Failure to comply with elements of uniform will result in warnings and contact with parents until students conform.

Respect At ISEE we expect students to be respectful. They should respect themselves, respect others, and respect the built and natural environment. Students should be especially mindful of treating al adults in ISEE with equal respect: teachers, facilities staff, matrons, janitors, etc. All communications between students, teachers, parents and school leaders should be conducted with respect, whether in person, over the telephone or by email.

Behavioral Guidelines 1. Students are expected to converse in English at all times (except during Arabic, Arabic Social Studies, and Religion classes).

2. Foul language and verbal abuse – swearing, racial or other abusive language will not be tolerated. Students and adults are mindful of their speech and respectful in their use of language.

3. Students should not come to school with large sums of money.

4. Girls are not allowed to wear jewelry, make up, nail polish, or accessories.

5. Long hair should not be left untied.

6. Eccentric boys’ haircuts or styles are not accepted.

7. Chewing gum and seeds are NOT allowed. These are unbecoming habits which are inappropriate at school.

8. Bullying, name calling and rough play are NOT allowed.

9. Students should not give gifts to staff members. You can show your appreciation by hard work, obedience, and right conduct.

10. Avoid running in halls.

11. Students who abuse school property (write on walls, desks, etc.) will be assigned an appropriate consequence. Habitual vandalism will cost you money and suspension. Students who mutilate or deface school property will be fined to cover the cost of restoring the damaged property, as well as receiving appropriate disciplinary action.

12. School and other students’ properties should be treated with respect and care. Vandalism and theft have consequences, which follow the severity of the incident.

13. Students should be able to stop antisocial behavior with other students. One student should have the courage to stop another who may be copying in exams, throwing litter on the ground, using bad language, vandalizing, by reporting the offender who refuses to listen.

14. During the 10-minute break you can eat, drink, go to the bathroom, or talk to any of your teachers or administrators. You are not allowed to go to the cafeteria or play in the playground.

15. Don’t drink water from the taps, it is not potable. Get your own water or buy bottles from the cafeteria.

16. Students are not permitted to sell items to other students for personal monetary gain. Teachers are not permitted to collect and hold money from students unless coordinated through the Stage Principal.

17. Keep your indoor voice level at all times. Loud voices, screaming and yelling will not be tolerated neither indoors nor outdoors (in the playground).

Behavioral Guidelines in the Halls and Restrooms Students are not permitted in the halls during class periods unless they are accompanied by a teacher or a staff member, or have a hall pass from an authorized staff member. Students who are found in the halls without passes will be subject to disciplinary action.

Hallways and restrooms are areas used by all members of ISEE. Because everyone uses these areas, there are rules of conduct that all students must follow.

1. Do not loiter nor run in the halls or restrooms.

2. Do not yell, scream, hit lockers or make excessive noise in these areas.

3. Report any leaks, spills, or other problems in the restrooms to your homeroom teacher or to the Stage Principal.

Behavioral Guidelines in Computer/Science Labs and Classrooms Students should respect all of the technological equipment. Any mishandling or tampering with computers or systems may result in losing computer privileges at ISEE. In addition, disciplinary action, including suspension, may occur for situations considered serious by the school administration. Any damage requiring repair of hardware or software will result in financial charges being assessed.

Students shall not bring food or beverages into the classroom or computer/ Science labs.

Consequences of School Rules Violation When a student’s behavior falls below the basic expectations of school, disciplinary action will be positive rather than negative in its approach and, while maintaining respect for the student, will ensure that the classroom learning environment is preserved. Failure to follow school rules and regulations is treated seriously. Our goal is for students to accept responsibility for their actions and begin to understand the link between their behavior and its effect on others.

In case of breaking a school rule, the consequences could be the following: Conferences and Problem Solving Some concerns about student behavior are referred by teachers to the office.

In order to gather information about a problem, it is normal for an administrator to schedule a meeting with the students involved. At this meeting, students discuss what occurred and they are counseled about their behavior. With serious problems or those that repeat, a conference between the parents of the child and an administrator is scheduled.

Loss of Social Time (breaks, before and after school) If students demonstrate lack of control, they may be removed from the class activity or lose the privilege of socializing with their friends for a designated length of time.

In-School Suspension ISEE employs a progressive model of disciplinary consequences, and students who repeatedly violate school rules or where the behavior concerned is more serious may receive an in-school suspension. This takes place in school, under organized supervision. Students will complete work provided by teachers and will receive counseling and advice which relate to the reason for the suspension.

Home-Suspension If a serious problem occurs where any student’s safety is threatened or there are concerns which remain unresolved after other techniques have been tried, a student may be placed on suspension for a designated period of time while the matter is investigated and considered. In order for a student to be readmitted to school, a conference between the Principal and the parents will be required. During a home suspension, a student is not permitted to be on campus or to participate in any school related activity.

Bus Conduct Expectations All these rules are applied on fieldtrips and after school activities.

Conduct on the bus is expected to be the same as in the classroom. Safety depends on the skill of the driver and nothing should distract him.

(Students may be denied bus privileges when their behavior is inappropriate) Students who use the school bus either regularly or as a guest at any time on special occasions must observe the following rules: 1. Students are expected to demonstrate respect for the driver, the matron and other passengers.

2. Be punctual. Occasionally, the bus will wait for not more than 1 minute after your allocated pick up time. If you are regularly late, the bus will not wait for you.

3. Help younger pupils who are with you on the bus.

4. Report any problems to the bus prefect. If problems are not solved, report to the Stage Principal.

5. At the end of the day, go to your bus immediately. Buses will not wait for students who are late.

6. If you request any change of bus or pick up location (only on Thursdays or in case of emergency), an email to elem.trans.request@eliteeducation-eg.com is requested. NO PHONE CALLS OR REQUESTS AFTER 12:00 P.M. WILL BE ACCEPTED. 7. Quick Reminders:  Vandalism of the bus will cost you money. Students who vandalize seats or curtains will pay a fine double the cost of the damage done.  Food is not allowed on the bus.  Remain in your seat. It is a must to fasten your seat belt.  No physical violence.  No bullying.  No profanity, no profane, common, or vulgar language.  No throwing objects on the bus or outside the windows. Throw paper in the trash bin.  Keep your hands and heads inside the bus.  Talk quietly; don’t shout or sing.  Try to keep aisles clear of bags.  Don’t converse with the driver.  No tips for drivers and matrons.  Students are not allowed to do their homework on the bus. It is dangerous.

General Information Textbooks and Other Materials Textbooks are provided as required for each course as part of the basic school tuition. Students are encouraged to keep their books covered at all times and in good condition. Textbooks remain the property of the school and must be returned at the time of closure of the academic year, or student withdrawal, in a condition that shows they were treated with care. Textbooks which are lost, stolen or carelessly handled must be replaced at cost.

Library ISEE has two large and growing libraries.  All students are responsible for the materials they sign out, and are required to pay for missing or damaged materials.  Students are expected to return all books by their due dates.  In case of overdue books, students must pay a fine of L.E. 5 for each day after the due date.  If a student loses a book, he will pay for its price and will not be allowed to borrow more books from the library.

Students who violate any of the above rules will be denied the privilege of borrowing any books from the library.

Accelerated Reading Program The Accelerated Reading Program runs throughout the year. Every student, at the beginning of Term 1, is given a computerized S.T.A.R. test, which is used to ascertain his/her current level. Aided by the librarian, the student then chooses a book at the specific level as indicated by the test. He/she is allowed one week to read the book, after which time the student goes to the library again and takes a multiple choice comprehension test on the book. Upon successful completion of each book, the student is awarded merit points and proceeds to the next level.

Class Photos A contracted photographer will photograph students in school. Picture dates will be announced in the calendar. Pictures will be available for purchase.

Field Trips The purpose of field trips is to enhance classroom instruction by providing a meaningful, well organized out of class experience for students. Field trips acquire hands on knowledge of the subject matter that is being studied and offer exciting ways to learn.

ISEE students will have the opportunity to go on field trips at various times throughout the academic year. Any student who has demonstrated the inability to follow rules may be prohibited from participating. This determination will be made by the administration.

For all field trips, students will be expected to follow these rules: • The student must bring to school the “Field Trip Permission Slip” signed by his/her parent by the specified date. No phone calls will be accepted as permission.

• The student must follow the Uniform Code unless otherwise specified.

• The student must abide by ISEE Code of Student Conduct while on the field trip.

Occasionally some students remain in school rather than taking part in the trip.

These are extraordinary situations. Students who are excused from the trip are expected to attend school and work will be provided by the class teacher.

Charitable Causes/ Community Service Our school community will support a growing number of organizations and charitable causes. These provide valued opportunities for our students to demonstrate initiative and further develop their skills and understandings of citizenship and leadership.

Cell Phones Cell Phones are prohibited for students in ALL Elementary grades. If students or families insist on a need for a phone out of school hours, then that is the only time it may be used. Phones etc., go to the Stage Principal’s Office at the start of the school day and stay there until the end. If a teacher sees a phone or tablet, then they will confiscate it until the end of the day. Repeated transgressions may result in preventative confiscation.

Students are also not allowed to bring toys and electronics to school (laptops, iPads, PSP, cameras etc.).

Lockers (Grades 4, 5 & 6) Students may be assigned a locker for individual use. No fees are paid for lockers; however, the locker will be shared by two students (if we don’t have enough for each student). The locker is for storing books and personal items necessary for school. Please note: • Students should not bring valuable items from home. ISEE will not be responsible for personal items you leave in your locker or bring to school with you.

• Do not trade lockers with another student.

• It is your responsibility to see that your locker is kept locked and in order at all times.

• You should report any damage, vandalism or non-working condition of your locker to the Stage Coordinator.

• No item considered dangerous by the administration may be kept in the lockers and will be removed if found there. This includes glass or any other object that may be potentially dangerous.

• Clean out your lockers regularly and throw food items into the trash.

• Please remember that your locker is a school property and remains at all times under the control of the school; however, you have full responsibility for the security of your locker and what is in it.

• School officials may make inspections.

Lost and Found Personal items that are lost are kept in the Stage Principal’s Office. Parents are encouraged to label all items, especially uniform, water bottles and lunch boxes, and to check the Lost and Found frequently. Unattended school books will be returned to the Library for processing.

At the end of each term, all uncollected lost and found items will be donated to charity.

Security Fire Alarm/ Lock-Down Drills The buildings on the campus are fitted with a fire alarm system. Throughout the year, fire drills will take place in order to familiarize students with the procedures of emergency evacuation.

Teachers will explain to students all emergency drill procedures. Necessary time will be taken in each class to go over rules, escape routes, and special procedures. These drills are very important and students should act accordingly.  When the alarm is sounded, students and visitors should leave the building immediately in an orderly fashion using the designated exit.  After leaving the building, students and visitors should report to their designated assembly point for an attendance check. The assembly point for all students is at the front of the school building.  Emphasis is placed on remaining quiet and observing rules and directions during the fire drills.  Lock down drills will also be practiced so that students are familiar with the term and the procedures of getting inside and under cover.  The regular class bell is the signal to return to class.

General Security Students are not permitted to leave the campus during school hours without permission of the parent/guardian. Parents who wish to pick up their children before regular dismissal should report to the Stage Principal’s Office before taking the child from campus. If a person unknown to the school and other than the parent is to pick up the student, this may only occur by mutual arrangement between the school and the parent. A written permission is required for the release of a student to anyone other than a parent or a designated representative.
