LUKE 2:10-14

Dear Readers,

As we come to the end of another year, friends, as always, the ebbing sands of time seem to be in full force. Life gets faster and faster; time goes by more quickly as each year passes, and we find ourselves in a whirlwind of the merrygo-round of life. Especially during the holiday season, it can feel like we don’t have a moment to see all that we are surrounded by, creating, celebrating, and rejoicing, this season.

We are all shepherds in the field, going about our typical day, waiting for the miracle. I say these words to myself and to all: just stop - for just a moment, and look up—see the joy, feel the warmth and share the love, that IS the reason

I pray, that amidst any strife, tears or fear, you can find that star on Christmas Eve and remember what all started in a manger became the greatest story ever told; the story of hope and love in this world–and the gift of the belief in something greater than ourselves.

Merry Christmas, Williamson County! From all of us here at YOUR Williamson— Shelly, Johnny, Anna, Christian, Rebecca, Lauren, Kim, Courtney, Katriel, Ron & Lawson

E IS THERE A SANTA CLAUS?

ight-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon wrote a letter to the editor of The New York Sun newspaper, and the quick response was printed as an unsigned editorial September 21, 1897. The work of veteran newsman Francis Pharcellus Church has since become history’s most reprinted newspaper editorial, appearing in part or whole in dozens of languages in books, movies and other editorials, and on posters and stamps.

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on

Original editorial in The New York Sun —September 21, 1897

Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

healthy holidays, happy traditions

The holiday season is filled with beloved traditions—from decorating the tree to baking cookies. To keep the season joyful and balanced, Williamson Health experts share simple ways to make health a holiday tradition.

Add Activity to Your Holiday Must-Haves

“The holidays are the perfect time to start some healthy traditions, like going for a walk before or after a big meal or signing up for a Jingle Bell 5K as a family,” said Lisa Mathews, Williamson Health Clinical Nutrition Manager. Add movement naturally, Mathews said, by taking a neighborhood stroll to see the lights, going for a family hike or parking farther from the store when shopping.

Give Yourself the Gift of Rest

If prioritizing sleep is on your holiday wish list, the busyness of the season can make building that tradition difficult. “During the holidays, we often have more gatherings and events that occur at hours outside of our normal schedules,” said Oscar Mendez, M.D., a neurologist and sleep medicine physician with Williamson Health Medical Group. “We might also be eating later at night or drinking more alcohol, both of which can disrupt sleep.”

Dr. Mendez recommends keeping a consistent bedtime and wake time, even during the busiest weeks. While napping can help recover some lost sleep, we need steady sleep—close to eight hours—to restore energy, support memory and strengthen the immune system.

Get Outdoors

Exposure to natural light during the day can also improve our sleep-wake cycle and lift spirits during the darker winter months. “It gets dark so early during the winter, so it’s important to get ample light exposure during the day,” Dr. Mendez said. Mathews added that outdoor family time—whether hiking, visiting a park or playing a sport—can help everyone stay active and connected.

Taste the Joy of the Season

The holidays are known for family gatherings, special meals and festive holiday celebrations. It can be easy to overindulge, but rather than depriving yourself of your favorite holiday treats, Mathews encouraged practicing moderation.

“Fill most of your plate with healthier items, but don’t miss out on the holiday favorites you really want,” Mathews said. “Strive to practice the 80/20 rule and save some room for fun foods you don’t want to miss!”

Other tips for healthy holiday eating, Mathews said, include drinking plenty of water and planning a protein- and fiber-rich snack about thirty minutes before parties or gatherings to avoid overindulging.

Feed Your Soul

Traditions that nurture emotional and spiritual well-being are just as important as those that support physical health, said the Rev. Greg Rumburg, Williamson Health Spiritual Care Coordinator. “Simple traditions that focus on love, service and community make the holidays more meaningful,” he said.

Rumburg encouraged friends and families to serve together with a local charity, church or outreach program and to include those who might feel lonely or overlooked. Small acts—like inviting a friend to dinner or taking a meal to a neighbor—can make the season brighter for everyone.

Make Health Your Newest Tradition

This year, add well-being to your list of holiday traditions. Whether through movement, rest, balanced meals or meaningful connections, small choices can make your celebrations more joyful and sustainable.

Home Holidays for the

MAKING LIFE EASIER DURING THE HOLIDAYS BY SHELLY

ou know that exhausting moment, mid December, when you crawl in from work after sitting in Christmas shopping mall traffic? And what to your wondering eyes should appear, but your neighbors, your husband’s golf buddy and your cousin Suzy–with six kids in tow! It’s the holidays–so spread some instant cheer with these tips to keep your home and kitchen holiday guest-ready at a moment’s notice.

In order to make it through the holidays without spending every day planning and preparing for guests, do these few things starting December 1st. Yes, a little forethought and pre-planning will make the next thirty-one days much easier, I promise.

1. TIDY UP in a snap

Keep the house clear of those pesky tree needles and stray mistletoe balls and invest in a CORDLESS VACUUM that you can keep charged and ready to pick up minor messes at a moment’s notice. Even the kids can manage it and help!

2. Instant ambiance with HOLIDAY SCENTS

Buy five CANDLES IN VARYING HOLIDAY SCENTS at the start of the season; Something Fir Tree, something Winter Snow, something Cranberry, and scatter them in your common area rooms. Keep lighters close by and accessible so as soon as the doorbell rings unexpectedly, you can light and create a festive and non-smelly atmosphere right away.

3. COOKIES on Demand

If you are really ahead of the game: MAKE COOKIES AND FREEZE THE DOUGH IN READY-MADE BALLS to quickly pop in the oven. Or, make sure you buy three or four rolls of pre-made dough in your favorite holiday flavor–peanut butter, sugar or gingerbread–to slice and bake with no muss or fuss!

4. Punch Up your DRINK GAME

Speaking of pre-planning: Keep on hand cans of FROZEN ORANGE AND LEMON CONCENTRATE AND BREW UP SOME TEA by the gallon. This, too, can be kept frozen. Guests coming? Mix all that and add some fresh cranberries or sprigs of basil for color to make a fabulous Tea Punch! This is also a great mixer for champagne or vodka if you need to pligh your guests with holiday “spirits.” It’s also a good idea, especially if you know you will entertain throughout the holidays or will have a party or two to attend yourself, to just go ahead and buy a case of wine. Mix red, white and champagne and you are ready to serve or take a bottle as a hostess gift at any moment!

5. GIFTS on the fly

Speaking of HOSTESS GIFTS: Buy five to ten unique ornaments and get small gift bags, tissue paper and cards. Wrap them in advance and have them ready in the closet. Co-worker got you something, and you never even considered getting her a gift? Voila–there you go!

6. PARTYWARE at the ready

Buy holiday or festive COCKTAIL NAPKINS, PLATES AND CUPS and keep them tucked away for that moment when you haven’t run the dishwasher in over a week. If you are lucky enough to have crystal or glass wine glasses, go ahead and pull that stuff out! And maybe think about polishing the silver at the beginning of November. Those trays and serving pieces can come in handy –and make you uber Martha Stewart looking– for at least four months before they need to be polished again!

7. The ultimate CHEESE TRAY hack

And lastly, and really a year-round trick of the trade of hostessing: Buy MIXED NUTS, MULTI-PACKS OF CRACKERS AND KEEP HARD CHEESES AND/OR BRIE or specialty cheese on hand at all times. Add some olives, grapes, jam or other favorite crudité and presto! You’ll have a ready-made and seemingly fancy and well-thought-out party tray.

So, as the holiday whirlwind sweeps through your home, remember that a little preparation goes a long way in keeping the chaos merry and bright. With these quick tricks and thoughtful touches, you’ll not only survive the season but dazzle your guests with ease. When the doorbell rings and unexpected visitors step inside, you’ll be ready—with cookies in the oven, a drink in their hand, and a festive glow all around. Cheers to making holiday magic happen with less stress and more joy!

WHICH IS THE SUPERIOR HOLIDAY BEVERAGE?

Boiled Custard versus Egg Nog… It is one of the biggest rivalries of the holiday season. Which one is better? Which do you prefer to sip on with your spirit of choice, cozied up by the fire? And what brand or recipe is the best? Well, we may not have the answer of best, but we do have our preferences at the YOUR Williamson office. However, one thing agreed upon is that homemade is the way to go. Here are a couple of recipes to try this holiday season. See which one you end up liking best and let us know. Here’s to a sweet and spirited Christmas!

INGREDIENTS

≅ 4 cups whole milk

≅ 5 large eggs

≅ 1 cup granulated sugar

≅ 1 teaspoon vanilla extract ≅ 1/16 tsp. ground nutmeg

METHOD

1. Set a large fine mesh strainer over a medium heatproof bowl and set the bowl in a shallow pan of ice water.

2. Whisk together sugar and eggs in a medium bowl until smooth.

3. Heat milk in a large heavy saucepan over medium-low, stirring often, until small bubbles appear around the edges, about 8 minutes. Gradually pour 1 cup of the hot milk into egg mixture, 1/3 cup at a time, whisking constantly. Gradually pour egg mixture back into milk in saucepan, whisking constantly.

4. Cook over medium, stirring constantly, until mixture coats the back of a spoon and reaches 180°F on an instant-read thermometer, about 4 minutes.

5. Remove from heat and pour custard through fine mesh strainer into prepared bowl, discarding solids in strainer.

6. Stir in vanilla and nutmeg. Let custard sit in ice bath, stirring often, until room temperature, about 15 minutes. Cover with plastic wrap directly on surface of custard to prevent a skin from forming and chill in refrigerator until cold, 2 to 3 hours. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with more nutmeg.

INGREDIENTS

≅ 6 large egg yolks

≅ 3/4 cup sugar

≅ 2 cups milk

≅ 2 whole cloves

≅ Pinch cinnamon

≅ 1 cup heavy cream

≅ 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (lightly packed)

METHOD

≅ 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

≅ 2 tablespoons bourbon, or to taste

≅ 2 tablespoons rum, or to taste

≅ 4 egg whites, optional

1. In a large bowl, use a whisk or an electric mixer to beat egg yolks until they lighten in color. Slowly add the sugar, beating after each addition. Beat at high speed or whisk until fluffy.

2. Combine the cloves, milk, and cinnamon in a thick-bottomed saucepan. Slowly heat on medium heat until the milk mixture is steaming but not boiling.

3. Add eggs by slowly adding half of the hot milk mixture into the eggs, continue whisking while you add the hot mixture. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan.

4. Cook the eggnog on medium heat, continuously stirring with a wooden spoon, until the mixture begins to slightly thicken and coats the back of the spoon. If you have a candy thermometer (not required,) cook until the mixture reaches 160°F. Do not allow the mixture to boil, or it will curdle.

5. Remove from heat and stir in the cream.

6. Strain the mixture through a mesh strainer to remove the cloves and any curdled bits that may have formed. Let chill for 1 hour.

7. Stir in vanilla extract, nutmeg, and bourbon and rum if you’re feeling fun.

LIGHT OF THE

W

"BILL

AND I ARE EXCITED TO ONCE AGAIN WELCOME TENNESSEANS INTO THE TENNESSEE RESIDENCE THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON. IT IS OUR HOPE THAT THE CHRISTMAS TOURS WOULD PROVIDE A TANGIBLE PICTURE OF THE GLORY, GRACE, AND LIGHT THAT CHRIST BROUGHT TO EARTH FROM THAT VERY FIRST CHRISTMAS AND STILL TODAY."

The Governor’s Mansion is never more beautiful or inviting than during the Christmas season and, this year, that rings especially true. Governor Bill Lee and First Lady Maria Lee have once again put their best foot forward and are inviting you to join them in celebrating the season as they generously open the Mansion to the public.

For the past six years, the decorations have been centered around a festive theme, bringing cohesiveness and class that is hard to find anywhere else. This year’s theme, “Light of the World,” is impactful for many, bringing the true spirit of the season to the forefront of our minds and reminding us of the one true light even as we are captivated by the sparkling beauty of the Mansion. The meaning and heart behind the decorations are an important part of what makes this place so special, turning the already gorgeous building into a must-see destination.

Maria, along with a team of professional designers, poured time and creativity into each and every room, and the result of these efforts is pure magic. Stunning scenes that will ignite Christmas joy in even the biggest of Scrooges.

“Bill and I are excited to once again welcome Tennesseans into the Tennessee Residence this Christmas season,” says Maria. “It is our hope that the Christmas tours would provide a tangible picture of the glory, grace, and light that Christ brought to earth from that very first Christmas and still today.”

You will, of course, see many beautifully decorated trees at the Governor’s Mansion, but more than that, you will find trees with a meaningful purpose behind them. First Lady Lee’s Nonprofit Trees, will be on display in Conservation Hall, and guests will have the opportunity to donate requested items to local Tennessee nonprofits. Represented this year are Memphis Child Advocacy Center, Reelfoot Rural Ministries, Graceworks Ministries, Helping Mamas Knoxville, and Cumberland Children’s Center House of Hope. Each of these organizations was intentionally picked, and we hope you will take part in what they are doing for our community!

The Tennessee Residence will be open for public tours December 5th –7th and December 12th – 14th. All tours are self-guided, free to the public, and require a reservation. For more information and to make your tour reservation, please visit tn.gov/residence.

SADDLE & STABLE

CHRISTMAS

EQUESTRIAN INSPIRED HOLIDAYS

PHOTOGRAPHY BY

After three years in Florida, this holiday season marks our first Christmas back in Franklin… and it feels like we never left. The laughter of old friends, the kindness of new ones, and the simple joy of community have filled our home as we decorated for the holidays. What began as a holiday decorating quickly grew into something much more—a wonderful gathering of helping hands, local small businesses and genuine friendship. Every garland hung and every light strung carried a little piece of the reason we came back—the warmth, generosity and connection that make Franklin feel like home.

I initially leaned toward the trending Ralph Lauren Christmas theme, but after finishing a tree in deep reds, it felt a little too formal— beautiful, yet not quite me. So, I reimagined it in a way that felt more authentic to our family, creating a “Saddle & Stable” aesthetic. A nod to our equestrian life, this theme blends classic textures and warm neutrals with subtle holiday charm… a reflection of three daughters who ride, three beloved horses and a home rooted in comfort and connection.

“Coming back to Franklin felt less like starting over and more like returning to the people who make this place feel like home.”

Ten Holiday Styling Ideas Inspired by the Equestrian Life

1. Reimagine the Details

Instead of traditional sleigh bells, I used stirrups from Franklin Saddlery’s consignment tack and then spray-painted them gold for a warm, timeworn elegance.

2. Magnolia Moments

I wove glossy magnolia leaves, often seen at Southern horse shows, into my garland for a natural, heritageinspired touch.

3. Dinner is Served

Each table setting featured equestrian place settings, a subtle nod to the sport that’s such a part of our family’s daily life and the trending Ralph Lauren aesthetic.

4. Leather Accents

Leather horse bit napkin rings, from Patina Home & Garden in Leiper’s Fork, added warmth and authenticity, grounding the table in texture and tone.

5. Elevated Details

Handcrafted, leather-accented glassware from David Arms Gallery, also in Leiper’s Fork, brought understated refinement to the space.

6. Bridle Baubles

I incorporated old bits and bridles into the Christmas tree decor, creating a subtle storytelling layer among the twinkling lights.

7. Vintage-Inspired Horse

Art

Vintage-inspired horse prints, a surprising Target find for under $15, added a touch of equestrian charm to the tree.

8. Black Watch Plaid

I chose Black Watch plaid as a recurring pattern — a timeless reference to equestrian tradition that pairs beautifully with rich leather, greenery, and gold. I found beautifully patterned rolls of wrapping paper at HomeGoods for $5 each, along with most of the coordinated solid-color ornaments that tied the entire look together.

9. Natural Layers

Layers of garland draped over mantels, including Austrian pine from Riverside Franklin in downtown Franklin, softened the look. Riverside Franklin owner, and friend, Lynda McGuire, graciously lent me a pair of antique riding boots that added a layer of authenticity and heart to the design.

10. Beyond Red and Green

Becca Hall, wife of Head Springs Depot owner Seth Hall and mom of three, added a beautiful layer of “elevated but comfortable” charm with florals that complemented the space. Magnolia, chocolate cosmos and rosemary offered a fresh alternative to traditional holly. (It was an especially meaningful touch, as much of our furniture was also sourced from their beautiful 17,000-square-foot showroom in downtown Franklin.)

Beyond the equestrian details, I wanted our home to feel warm, lived in, and connected to the heart of the community. To do that, I styled the kitchen and dining spaces with fresh sourdough loaves, cinnamon rolls and apple strudels from Homemade by Holly, a local foster and adoptive mother of six whose story is as inspiring as her baking. Holly has fostered more than forty-five children in Williamson County, from birth to aging out of the system, while homeschooling her own and running a small business. She began baking sourdough in 2020, turned it into Homemade by Holly in 2022 and will soon open her bakery inside Flat Creek Market in Spring 2026. I feel strongly that while not everyone is called to foster, we can all wrap our arms around the ones who do.

Although everything came together beautifully for the photos, the behind-the-scenes reality was a bit more chaotic. Just as I was nearly finished with the design, I fell sick two days before the shoot. Thankfully, a friend had recently introduced me to Alissa Lawton Design, a local mom and former teacher who specializes in transforming porches, mantels, and homes into nature-inspired spaces. Her designs are largely foraged and sourced locally, supporting nearby farmers and growers. Alissa arrived

early, stayed late, and brought calm to the chaos—decorating the porch with fresh topiaries, making additional HomeGoods runs and assisting with final touches.

This project became a true testament to the kindness and talent of friends who showed up when it mattered most. Nate Feathers, from ’Twas the Light , added a beautiful glow to the exterior, while Mary Grindstaff, a local assistant to busy families, wrapped presents alongside Olivia Dietrich, a recent college grad who jumped right in to help. Friend, Alexis Palma, an attorney and fellow mom, set aside her legal hat to lend her design eye. Even the hand-painted horse artwork above the mantel was created by local mother and artist DeAnn Herbert, adding a personal and meaningful touch to the space. To capture it all, my dear friend and talented photographer Evin Kriebel worked late into the night editing as I finished writing, both of us racing the clock in true creative harmony. I’m deeply grateful for each of them… their time, heart and friendship brought this holiday vision to life.

A few spray-painted horse stirrups sparked a holiday vision that grew into something far greater… a community of people showing up

for one another when life felt overwhelming. When one working mom couldn’t do it all, friends and small businesses stepped in with helping hands and a creative spirit. In a world that often feels digital and disconnected, this experience reminded me that the true magic of the holidays isn’t found in the perfection of our holiday decor or what we see on social media—it’s found in the people that show up when it matters most.

“christmas is a season not only of rejoicing, but of reflection.”
- WINSTON CHURCHILL

the

williamson grinch

ello, gentlemen. “Tomorrow is Christmas. It’s practically here!” Yes, it’s The holiday season and time for our annual Holiday Issue. Have you made your wish list? What are YOU wanting for Christmas this year?

It’s a time to celebrate, a time for family and friends, a time for giving—It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Who do you think of when you think of Christmas? Santa? Elf on the Shelf? Rudolph? Scrooge?

I had the pleasure of getting to share eggnog and conversation with someone that I think of when I think of Christmas. Not who he was or possibly what he may have been… but who he is and who he has become.

Meet the Williamson Grinch, here, in my interview—and see him dancing on the YOUR Williamson float at the Franklin Christmas Parade, in downtown Franklin on December 6th!

tell me about your journey in life?

Nobody wants to be different. Yet we all are. I felt “different” my whole life. I was born green. I was shy, insecure and a loner. My early years were difficult. We had very little, and I would see the popular “who’s who” kids laughing and celebrating and talking about all the things THEY were getting for Christmas. I hated Christmas… the whole Christmas season. It’s been said because my shoes were too tight, or my head wasn’t screwed on right. What I hated most was the joy, the Christmas bells ringing and, oh yeah, the singing and singing and singing. As I grew older, I had a LOT of wonderful, awful ideas. For fiftythree years my heart was an empty hole. Nobody would touch me. Not even with a 39½ foot pole! Living a lie. I tried many “coping mechanisms” to change how I felt. I wanted to be 10,000 feet up and away from everyone else. I tried moving to different areas and the thing is… wherever I went, there I was… and my grandiose plans of making others feel bad or sad didn’t work. The fact is, I’m not that important. The thought that I could change others’ lives or feelings was, in truth, false. In fact, the only one uncomfortable, angry and upset was me. Then I realized… it’s not everyone else. The puzzler was me.

so, what changed?

One Christmas a miracle happened. I finally had people in my life that loved me. They loved me until I could learn to love myself. I felt like my heart grew three sizes or even more. I surrounded myself with the people I admired, wanted to be with and looked up to. I felt the ice melt. It was a feeling I had never felt before. Happiness. I discovered the joy of caring for others. Don’t get me wrong… not every day is unicorns, hearts and rainbows… I still have my bad days. I have things that try and send me over the edge like spam callers, and traffic. But today, I am comfortable in my own “green” skin. My best days are ahead. I look for the good in everyone. I know the importance of being humble, and I treat everyone with respect and dignity. I think before speaking, and everyday I tell the ones I love, "I love you" and give thanks to God for blessings I have.

what advice would you give a younger you or this younger generation?

Whatever you do. Do your best. Don’t hit the easy button. You can’t please everyone. The only person you must please is God. Don’t be afraid to try. If you fail at something it doesn’t define who you are. Pull those bootstraps up, push your heels in, wiggle your toes and move forward. Keep your head up. You be you… everyone else is taken.

so, mr. williamson grinch what would you like for christmas?

I don’t have a BIG want list anymore. This year I have been dropping hints for a new pair of Lucchese boots, a new hat and gloves, and a new cologne. I like to read… maybe I will get a new book. What I really, really want is a new pair of Jing Tinglers and a brass Gardinker.

obviously, you are a man of fashion. what is your dress code for the holidays?

Oh wow! I believe you dress how you feel. It’s a special festive time so get your special festive attire. Put some extra time and thought into it. Get out your holiday bow ties, your best suit or sport coat, shine those festive shoes and don’t forget the socks. Feel great and look great. We live in a world of phone photos and social media… what do you want to be seen, and remembered for, wearing?

what tips do you have for other gentlemen on holiday hospitality?

Meet every guest at the door with a genuine WELCOME, take their coats, tell them the lay of the land (bathrooms, food and drinks), show them in and introduce to all others. Ask: “Can I get you anything?” Stay attentive. Stay connected and involved. Spend time with the people you love.

Thank you, Mr. Williamson Grinch, for sharing your time with us. Gentlemen, WELCOME CHRISTMAS. Bring your cheer. Let’s embrace this season. Host your family to a holiday feast. Cherish the honor to carve the roast beast. Fill your heart with love and maybe, just maybe, you’ll feel your heart grow… Remember “Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”

No—not every day is Christmas, but wouldn’t it be GREAT if it was. Why not carry that Christmas spirit throughout the year, or at least try. Merry Christmas!

Season Giving

YOU MATTER. YOU ARE SEEN. YOU ARE SUPPORTED.

For more than a decade, a quiet but powerful holiday tradition has been taking place in Williamson County. This tradition has continued every year without press releases or even an official name and has been built on the simple joy of helping kids feel seen. What began as a simple idea between former AllPro Tennessee Titans linebacker, Keith Bullock, and Franklin community leader, Robert Blair, has grown into an annual shopping experience for families in need of a little holiday cheer.

This tradition traces back to Schrlene White, who introduced Keith and Robert. What started with a small group of children at Toys R Us, around 2015, expanded moving from Dick’s Sporting Goods, then Just Love Coffee, and eventually finding a permanent home at Walmart. Through every location change, one thing remained the same—the commitment to showing up for children who needed a little something extra this holiday season.

Each year, Keith has the opportunity to share a positive message to the kids participating. Because he has experienced the foster care system himself, he provides a connection encouraging the kids to believe in what they can overcome. Robert brings the leadership of someone who has spent his entire life investing in this community making sure every child feels cared for.

Each year, they work alongside Lisa Chatman, who is the head of Franklin Special District Health Services, to thoughtfully select around twenty children who they feel who benefit most from this experience. School nurses are able to provide insight into students facing difficult circumstances. Sometimes they choose a young student athlete that would light up at the

opportunity to meet Keith. Each story is different, and each selection is intentional.

On the exciting day, everyone gathers at Walmart who has been a very important part of the mission. They open their aisles, assist in checkout, and create a welcoming space for families to shop freely. Robert and Keith greet everyone and on occasion will share a meal with the families. Families are invited to participate together, keeping the emphasis on unity and support. Keith will share heartfelt words about perseverance and Robert reminds families that their community sees them.

When shopping starts, the atmosphere turns into pure joy. Each family receives a Walmart gift card, and volunteers walk alongside them to help pick out items. Keith is joined by his wife, three daughters and his father-in-law to make spreading kindness a full family effort. Volunteers provide encouragement that stick with the families long after the holiday season ends.

Over the years, the event has grown, but the mission has stayed the same. It is not about publicity; it is about the community standing together and standing strong. Each year is a reminder of what generosity looks like, and it does not require an audience to make an impact.

The date for the 2025 event is still being finalized, but as always, Keith and Robert will be their alongside families, volunteers, Walmart partners, and supporters who believe in giving a little something extra.

In the end, this tradition is not about what goes into a shopping cart. It is about the message every child carries home: You matter. You are seen. You are supported. And this community is better with you in it.

"WE HAVE HAD A SINGLE DAD THAT IS RAISING HIS SEVEN KIDS. WE HAVE HAD GRANDMOTHERS AND YOUNG ADULT SIBLINGS THAT ARE RAISING THEIR YOUNGER SIBLINGS."
- LISA CHATMAN "I AM THANKFUL TO KEITH AND HIS FAMILY, LISA CHATMAN, WALMART AND OTHER SUPPORTERS WHO DONATE."

Where Christmas Lives

The Reindeer Farm, located in Bowling Green, has kicked off another hoof-stomping season. The Christmas magic includes real-life reindeer encounters, family-friendly activities, and locally sourced sips.

"Each year, we open our home to the world and we're blown away by the overwhelming number of visits, responses, and miles folks will travel to experience our farm," said Jessica Anderson, coowner and co-founder of the Reindeer Farm. "We frequently welcome families from overseas, such as Ireland, Australia, and Britain, and we see new visitors from different states season after season. We're starting to recognize faces of families that are making this their holiday tradition. We're proud and thankful to be part of those special, lasting memories."

This year, the farm will offer even more chances for winter whimsy. Highlights include:

“Reindeer Farm after Dark" daily from 6pm to 10pm, through December 31st, with a closure on Christmas Day. Enjoy the magic of the Reindeer Farm under festive twinkle lights.

• The Reindeer Farm will now open Fridays and Saturdays from 9am to 5pm and Sundays from 11am to 5pm. The farm will also be open on December 22nd and December 23rd from 11am to 5pm.

• Breakfast with Christmas characters, including Santa, will take place December 21st – 23rd. The Grinch will appear December 14th, and Frozen's Elsa and Anna will also appear throughout the season.

Live ice sculpting with Food Network's Danny Kissel takes place on December 13th and December 14th

• Several favorite offerings will remain during the 2025 season, including day passes and Reindeer Encounters. These encounters enable visitors to spend time with the reindeer in their enclosures, take photos, and learn about the farm and the reindeer.

MUSIC, MERRIMENT

STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN & FRIENDS TO HEADLINE “A FRANKLIN CHRISTMAS,” PRESENTED BY THE CIRCLE OF GIVING

The Circle of Giving invites the community to celebrate the magic of the holiday season at the inaugural “A Franklin Christmas,” presented by The Circle of Giving with Steven Curtis Chapman & Friends, on December 15th at Liberty Hall in The Factory at Franklin. Tickets are available for purchase online via Eventbrite.

The Circle of Giving is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed by Holladay Properties to operate the Carousel of Dreams by Ken Means, located at The Factory at Franklin. All proceeds from carousel operations and related activities are donated to nonprofit organizations serving Williamson County. Learn more at carouselofdreams.com.

The event promises to be an unforgettable night, as Franklin’s own five-time GRAMMYwinning musician Steven Curtis Chapman brings a variation of his The Music of Christmas Tour to his hometown. In December, Chapman is taking the tour to ten select cities, adding Franklin to the mix with a special performance. Doors open at 6:15pm, and the show begins at 7pm.

“I’m excited to be performing at the first-ever “A Franklin Christmas” in my hometown,” said Franklin’s own multi-GRAMMY award-winning singer-songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman. “Nothin’ better, especially at Christmas, than getting to share the gift of music while giving back to the community that has given so much to my family and me. Being able to do what I love and help families right here in Williamson County makes this event especially meaningful.”

VIP tickets are available for $125, giving guests access to the exclusive pre-party at the Carousel of Dreams with hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine and a chance to take a photo with Steven Curtis

Chapman. Second-tier seating is $75, and general admission tickets are $50.

Proceeds from the event will support The Circle of Giving’s ongoing work with four local nonprofit partners: FrankTown Open Hearts, which provides youth mentorship; Friends of Franklin Parks, benefiting Ellie G’s Dream World inclusive playground; Hard Bargain Association, supporting affordable housing; and Needs of Our Kids (N.O.O.K.), which provides student resources.

Come experience the magic of the season with friends, family, and neighbors as we gather for an unforgettable evening of holiday cheer, meaningful music, and community connection— all in support of The Circle of Giving’s mission to make a difference year-round. A Timeless TRADITION

Gaylord Opryland Resort’s 42nd Annual A Country Christmas, Nashville’s beloved Christmas celebration, runs through January 3rd. In addition to the immersive ICE! Christmas Experience, the resort’s marquee attraction, a long lineup of extraordinary attractions awaits, including themed character dining, a variety of family-friendly experiences, plus the debut of a Broadway-style cirque show later in the month.

The long-standing ICE! tradition began in 2001 at Gaylord Opryland Resort and is now a holiday staple at select resorts nationwide. The larger-than-life frozen showcase features handcarved ice sculptures, precisely crafted into vivid, floor-to-ceiling scenes from treasured Christmas classics. The walk-through masterpiece is a breathtaking display of artistry and imagination, transporting visitors of all ages into the season’s most memorable stories.

Gaylord Opryland is thrilled to welcome back by popular demand “A Charlie Brown Christmas” as its ICE! theme, last featured at the resort in 2017. Carved from two-million pounds of ice, the iconic holiday special, based on the comics strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz which is celebrating its seventy-fifth anniversary this year, has been brought to life in frozen form.

The attraction includes ice-sculpted, iconic characters like Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, and Linus, as well as twelve immersive walk-

through scenes, a total of five thrilling two-story ice slides, including a slide for walking toddlers, and photo-worthy moments the entire family can enjoy. Guests can also get an up-close look at the carving process during live carving demonstrations. The experience concludes in a separate area dedicated to the Nativity scene, meticulously carved, and shaped into a dramatic display of crystal-clear ice. The ICE! experience is kept at a chilly 9 degrees Fahrenheit to preserve the intricate, frozen detail and all guests are given a signature blue parka to brave the temperature and stay warm with their personal hats and mittens.

The carvers responsible for creating the extravagant attraction travel more than 6,400 miles from their homes in Harbin, China, to Nashville, TN. Known as the “Ice City,” Harbin is home to the world’s largest annual ice and snow sculpting festival in the world. Starting with more than 6,000 massive ice blocks, they work approximately six weeks, more than 12,000 manICE!

KAREN KINGSBURY’S THE CHRISTMAS RING

Well known author Karen Kingsbury has written not only another beautiful story, but also a screenplay. The Christmas Ring was released in theaters in November and the film, along with the book, is a story about a military widow searching for her family’s lost heirloom ring as she falls for an antique dealer. As romance blooms, a shocking discovery about the ring sends the antique dealer racing to save it before it’s lost forever. Days before Christmas, both learn that true treasure lies where the heart is.

Filmed in Williamson County, this story is full of heart, hope and holiday happiness. I had a chat with Karen to discuss the book and the filming of the movie and learned so much about the process. We also discussed holidays and traditions and how they are passed down, bringing those happy moments full circle… just like a ring. See my interview with Karen here and make sure to see The Christmas Ring, in theaters now and streaming. Learn more and get your copy of The Christmas Ring at karenkingsbury.com or visit Landmark Booksellers, in Franklin—or any of your other favorite book retailers—to get your copy of this special book.

What first inspired

The Christmas Ring?

About five years ago, my mom lost a pearl ring my dad had given her. He’s been in heaven almost twenty years, so finding it felt incredibly important. She searched everywhere—even had a plumber take apart the pipes—nothing. One day my sister was in the garage praying about it and felt God whisper, “Look under the sofa.” Now, that spot had been checked countless times, vacuumed, everything. But she went upstairs, told my mom, they moved the sofa—and there it was, sitting on perfectly vacuumed carpet.

Rings are symbolic—endless, eternal—and that little miracle made me wonder, what if? That’s always where a novel begins for me. What if a soldier landing in France on D-Day found a ring in the mud that gave him hope? What if it made him believe he’d make it home, fall in love, have another Christmas? That spark became The Christmas Ring

We wrote the screenplay first—Tyler Russell, my director and screenwriting partner, and I outlined it and realized it had something truly special. After finishing the script, I wanted more depth for readers, so I set aside eight days and wrote the novel.

What message or emotion do you hope stays with readers?

This is a throwback story that gently reminds us what Christmas really means. Life includes loss, heartache, and division—but Jesus came to mend all of that. A major theme is “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Relationships—time with family and friends—matter far more than any gift. And the ring itself carries the French word Maison, meaning “home.” It reflects both the home front during wartime and the eternal home promised at Christmas.

What is it like seeing the story come to life on the big screen?

I cried—through smiles the whole time. It was exactly the movie God placed on my heart. So much had to go right: the cast needed to be healthy and emotionally grounded, the director had to bring out deep performances, the crew had to work with precision. And they did—all A++.

We filmed the entire movie in three weeks in Franklin. Antique shops opened their doors to us—four of them—trusting us with priceless items. One owner, Kim from Winchester’s Antique Mall, even baked cookies for the crew every day. The whole experience felt like miracle after miracle.

Do any personal Christmas traditions influence your storytelling?

Absolutely. The Saturday after Thanksgiving, our family hosts an over-the-top gingerbread house competition. We’ve graduated far

Joel Tomlin, Karen Kingsbury & Carol Tomlin at Landmark Booksellers' 20th Anniversary Event

beyond graham crackers and frosting—we use kits, glue guns, figurines, tiny lights, the works. The kitchen becomes a joyful mess, and readers on social media vote for the winner. It’s so much fun, and there’s a nod to that tradition in The Christmas Ring

We also love Christmas movies. We wanted to create a movie that could join that beloved holiday list—and that was a huge inspiration for making The Christmas Ring.

What do you love about Williamson County?

We raised our kids in Vancouver, Washington, and I traveled to Nashville often for tours, signings, and songwriting. I always thought, What a blessing it would be to live here. In 2011, after my husband and I both felt God nudging us toward a move, everything aligned—my publishing contract, my agent’s encouragement, and the desire for deeper involvement in the creative community.

Fourteen years later, we still feel so grateful. Williamson County is warm, loving, and overflowing with creativity. This community embraces that kind of generational joy.

Anything else you’d like our readers to know?

The Christmas Ring shows that audiences still want meaningful stories—they want to laugh, to fall in love, but also to feel something deeper. Sometimes a movie can stir the heart in ways nothing else can, and we hope this one continues to do that.

BAnne Renée Rob

Working with metal became her artistic voice. “Once I learned to control the intricacies of working with metals, I felt that I had come home,” Anne says. “In short, I had found the medium that enabled me to express myself.” Her hope for each client is simple and heartfelt: “I hope that, after my clients acquire a piece of my jewelry, they will continue to enjoy wearing it for many years.”

orn in Bindjei, Sumatera, Indonesia—formerly the Dutch East Indies—Anne Renée Rob has lived a life shaped by resilience, creativity, and a devotion to craftsmanship. Of Dutch heritage, she and her family survived the Japanese concentration camps during World War II before immigrating to the United States in 1960. She became a U.S. citizen in 1965, beginning a new chapter that would eventually lead her into the world of contemporary jewelry.

Anne’s formal art education began at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, where she studied from 1957 to 1960. Her interest in metals developed later when she was introduced to jewelry making. “My background is in art, but I developed my interest in metals when I was introduced to jewelry making at The University of Tennessee at Martin,” Anne explains.

“I hope that, after my clients acquire a piece of my jewelry, they will continue to enjoy wearing it for many years.”

Anne’s work has been featured in numerous juried fairs and exhibitions, including TACA, Southern Highlands Craft Fairs, the Evansville Museum of Arts & Science, Seduction of Metals, A.V.A. Chattanooga, and more. In 2012, the Tennessee State Museum purchased one of her bracelets for its permanent collection.

She remains an active member of Tennessee Crafts, the Southern Highland Craft Guild, the Stones River Crafts Association, and the American Craft Council. Grateful for those who guided her, Anne reflects, “Art to me is a gift that sustains me and I am so very lucky for the teachers who made that possible.”

EQUIPPING THE FUTURE STARS OF

Broadway

LAURA OSNES & NATHAN JOHNSON BRING STAGECRAFT TO THOSE ASPIRING TO BE ON STAGE

Ihave long been a fan of Broadway actress Laura Osnes, primarily because of my own aspiring Broadway Baby - my twelve-year-old daughter. She is quite the fan, and no doubt Laura’s career and body of work speak for themselves. But you will find no stage diva in Laura Osnes. She emanates an innate and authentic “star” quality that you feel the moment you meet her. To hear her story and that of her husband, Nathan Johnson, you are transfixed by this “dreams come true” tale, with the “dreams shattered” moments thrown in as well. But these two people, individually and certainly as a couple, have no time to rest in any of the disappointing moments, and instead have created their lives rooted in a deep sense of purpose and paying it forward. They are doing that with a new online program called Stagecraft.

After fifteen years immersed in New York City’s theater industry, Laura and Nathan discovered a gap in the arts education landscape. Passionate young performers lacked access to practical, high-level training that truly prepares them for holistic success in the arts and entertainment.

Stagecraft closes that gap with a comprehensive, accessible online course platform designed for aspiring and working performers, arts educators, and parents seeking training they can trust. Laura and Nathan bring first-hand experience from Broadway stages, studio production, branding, and career strategy—and they’ve gathered a team of reliable, world-class

coaches who’ve made their mark where excellence is the standard.

But before they could provide this exceptional product to the world, they, too, had to earn their way to this moment. Laura aspired to the stage from childhood and was lucky enough to have community and school theater opportunities surround her, where she grew up in Minnesota. Natural talent cannot be denied when combined with determination and hard work, and Laura was undoubtedly full of all and then some. She and Nathan met while both performing in a local play, and the rest is history. While Nathan honed his own acting skills and pursued his real passions in photography and production, Laura continued, after deciding to pursue her life’s dream while doing, rather than just studying it in college, and it wasn’t long before she found herself performing as Sandy in Grease at a Minnesota dinner theater.

She tried out for and won her place on a national television contest to cast the next Sandy and Danny for a Broadway production of Grease. Episode after episode Laura was in the running until finally, she was the last “Sandy” standing. And off to New York she went. Nathan had his own career aspirations and made a career in the Big Apple alongside Laura, who worked on stage. In contrast, his work continued in a successful photography and production business offstage.

They say a Tony award nomination is one

in a million; well, Laura has two. She is best known for her roles in Grease, Cinderella, South Pacific, Anything Goes and Bonnie and Clyde. She has a nearly twentyyear history of stage productions as well as television acting in Hallmark and Great American Family movies, among others. Her career has been the stuff of which Broadway dreams are made. In 2021, with much of the theater business in New York on a COVID shutdown, both she and Nathan found themselves at a crossroads. By virtue of friends’ persuasion and Nathan’s side passion for researching on Zillow, they found themselves on their next adventure, right here in Middle Tennessee, Williamson County to be exact.

With almost Hallmark-esque scripting, the duo left the big-city lights to immerse themselves in the bucolic existence here. And they soon realized, they were not the only transplants of talent to the already multitalented landscape of Nashville and its suburbs. “I believe there is something wonderful about the influx of 'artistic refugees' congregating in middle Tennessee,” Laura says. “We find ourselves collaborating with colleagues from the top of every field right here in Williamson County, including Hollywood film producers, actors, and animators, musicians, orchestrators, artists, and photographers. There are fellow Broadway performers and commercial dancers - who all moved here because, like us, they love it here. We are so grateful to enjoy the quality of life that Tennessee offers, while also contributing to and investing in the growth of artistic excellence within this community.”

No doubt, Nathan and Laura will leave a lasting mark here in their new hometown and on the stage scene across the world with their latest endeavor—Stagecraft. “Rather than teach or coach future stage actors, I wanted to “equip” them with the tools and skills and most importantly, knowledge, I have gained throughout my own career, good and bad; to be able to have the confidence to go out and give it their all,” Laura explains about the premise behind Stagecraft. With Nathan to provide the production side of the equation, it seems as if this holistic and values driven online training program provides for not just a missing element in stage training overall, but a way for anyone, anywhere, to have access to learn from true stage performers and industry experts, even when their own circumstances and locations make that seemingly impossible.

“I had the mission to help 'equip' a generation and the experience to be able to do it. Nate is the producer and brilliant business mind behind bringing the idea to life. I can handle a lot of the artistic side and the contentcreation with our other coaches, while Nate has taken on the execution and technological aspect of it all,” Laura explains. “Nate adds: “We hired a couple of other friends along the way to help with design, but a year and a half after the initial idea, we have a product!”

In addition to Laura and Nathan’s expertise, the current panel of stage brilliance includes Andrew Byrne, Carrie Manolakos, Matthew Morrison, Alex Aguilar, and Julie Eicher Aguilar—all successful in their own right and trained in their respective facets of the triple threat of acting, singing, and dancing.

they’ve used to book lead roles, survive grueling eight-show weeks, and build sustainable careers that most performers only dream about.

Through insider stories, practical exercises, and step-by-step guidance, they’ll help you build the complete performer’s toolkit: the vocal, acting, and movement skills it takes to become a true triple-threat. With Stagecraft you will find real-world training covering voice, acting, dance, audition technique, performance mindsets, and much more to come! You can utilize actionable tools to apply immediately and take with you for years to come. The program and its producers will provide a growing community focused on support, inspiration, growth, collaboration, and well-being.

“I believe there is something wonderful about the influx of 'artistic refugees' congregating in middle Tennessee,"
- LAURA OSNES

With the motto "Providing Insider Wisdom: From Broadway to You," these mentors have forged their craft through thousands of performances, auditions, and behind-the-scenes moments with Broadway’s most esteemed directors, choreographers, and vocal coaches. With Stagecraft, you will go behind the scenes as Tony® nominated powerhouses, award-winning teachers, and Broadway theater artists personally guide you through the exact techniques

In addition to Stagecraft, Laura and Nate are involved in numerous other creative projects, including documentaries on local charitable initiatives, more movies (enjoy Laura in the Great American Family Production of Little Women, filmed right here in Franklin), and really whatever inspires and motivates them to contribute. “We are most excited about projects that celebrate courage, hope, and the enduring values that have shaped our country. And in this ever-evolving world of AI, our goal is to remain committed to producing human-made stories,” concludes Laura.

Stagecraft will certainly succeed there, as they breathe life into the idea that anyone can make it, and when you are very lucky, or talented, or determined, or all of the above— you too can find yourself standing mid-stage, under the spotlight! Stagecraft says anything is possible, and, no doubt, from its creation, there will be many a star born!

A very special thank you to Nathan and Laura for inviting the YOUR Williamson team and Miss Keeling Birdsong into their home for this story. We look forward to having them make their mark on our special community for many years to come.

DREAMING OF A

reams of a white Christmas will soon come true as Studio Tenn prepares to kick off the holiday season with a dazzling, Broadwaycaliber production of “White Christmas,” running December 4th through December 21 st, at Turner Theater inside The Factory at Franklin.

Based on Irving Berlin’s classic song of the same

name, the beloved musical follows WWII veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis as they team up with a pair of singing sisters for a holiday show at a cozy Vermont inn. The story is a magical tale of friendship, romance and holiday cheer, wrapped in breathtaking choreography and unforgettable music, including “White Christmas,” “Sisters,” “Snow,” “The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing,” “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep” and so many more.

Due to overwhelming excitement surrounding “White Christmas,” Studio Tenn will operate on a true Broadway schedule for the first time in its sixteen-year history, presenting eight performances a week, including weekend matinee and evening shows.

That’s not all that makes this production of “White Christmas” special. In a remarkable nod to its Broadway roots, Studio Tenn received special permission from Tonynominated choreographer Randy Skinner to remount his original choreography from the Broadway musical first performed twentyfive years ago.

“This is Broadway magic right here in Franklin,” said Patrick Cassidy, director of “White Christmas” and Studio Tenn’s Artistic Director. “‘White Christmas’ captures what makes the holiday season so special. It’s the kind of show that reminds me why I fell in love with musical theatre, and I know it will do the same for our audiences, especially with the cast we’re honored to have on the Turner Theater stage.”

Fresh off a year-year Broadway run in “The Book of Mormon,” Ben Laxton will play Bob Wallace, the role made famous by Bing Crosby in the 1954 film adaptation of “White Christmas.” The Belmont University graduate was last seen on the Turner Theater stage as Bob Gaudio in Studio Tenn’s “Jersey Boys.” Jeremy Benton will make his Studio Tenn debut as Phil Davis, a role he’s portrayed on seven

National Tours, and co-choreographer for the production. Benton recently delighted Nashville audiences as Bert in Nashville Rep’s “Mary Poppins!”

Lisa Karlin (Betty) and Elizabeth McGuire (Judy) will also make their Studio Tenn debuts as the iconic Haynes sisters. Lisa has multiple Broadway and National Tour credits, including “1776.” McGuire, a longtime collaborator of choreographer Randy Skinner, has performed in six productions of “42nd Street” and two of “White Christmas.” She will co-choreograph the Studio Tenn production alongside Benton, using Skinner’s original work.

With its Broadway-caliber cast and choreography, “White Christmas” is yet another example of the high-quality performances audiences have come to expect from Studio Tenn. The nonprofit regional theatre company continues to set the standard for professional theatre in the region, delivering productions that captivate and inspire audiences of all ages.

Get ready to ‘count your blessings instead of sheep’ and make unforgettable holiday memories—Studio Tenn’s ‘White Christmas’ is a show you won’t want to miss! Tickets, starting at just $50, are now available for purchase at studiotenn.com. Discounted tickets are available for active military, veterans, students and educators who present their respective IDs at the Studio Tenn box office.

"It’s the kind of show that reminds me why I fell in love with musical theatre, and I know it will do the same for our audiences, especially with the cast we’re honored to have on the Turner Theater stage."
