Kindersley’s new healthcare lab is a milestone in education
By Joan Janzen
Kindersley’s new healthcare lab at Great Plains College is officially open. This milestone in healthcare education was officially unveiled on the morning of September 23rd when Brad Mahon, the president of Great Plains College welcomed their guests to tour the facility. “We want to recognize the people who made this possible,” Brad said. “We appreciate everyone’s hard work who all played an important role in making this possible.”
Thanks to a generous donation of $25,000 from the Kindersley Co-op, the lab will serve as a training space for the college’s 24 Continuing Care Assistant students, as well as the new Practical Nursing program.
“We believe in the health and well-being of our community,” Brad Ferner from the Co-op, said. “We’re proud to play a part in making this a reality.”
Mayor Ken Francis and MLA Kim Gartner offered their congratulations. “This is a proud moment for the entire region,” Kim Gartner said. “Congratulations to Kindersley Co-op and
Great Plains College for coming together for this project.” He hoped the students enrolled at the College would stay and work in Kindersley and area.
Kylie Bradley, lead instructor for the new program, said the spacious lab allows the students to have hands-on practice. It features equipment and simulation tools that allow students to practice real-life scenarios and enables students to be well prepared to enter the workforce.
It was obvious the fourteen students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program were excited about their new venture. They came from throughout the area including Kerrobert, Kindersley, Dodsland, Leader, Saskatoon and Swift Current, and expressed appreciation for the smaller class sizes which ensures they all receive more individual instruction, resulting in a greater success rate.
“This is a proud moment for the college and the community,” Brad Mahon said. We wish the new students great success as they begin their two-year diploma program this fall.

TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) An old friend suddenly reappears. Whether this proves to be a boon or a bane in the Bovine’s life depends on the reason for this surprising reappearance. Be cautious.
GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Vital information finally emerges, allowing you to make an important personal decision. You can now move your focus to an upcoming professional development.
CANCER (June 21 to July 22) You might not like seeing so many on-thejob changes. But some of them could open up new opportunities for the Moon Child’s talents to shine to your best advantage.
LEO (July 23 to August 22) An apparently solid-gold opportunity beckons the Lion. But check to see if all that dazzle isn’t just a sprinkling of surface glitter before making a commitment.
VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) A close friend could offer advice on how to handle a difficult family matter. But in the end, the decision has to be made based on what is best for you and those you love.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) What seemed to be a reasonable workplace request might need to be defended. Don’t fret. You have both the facts and a surprise ally on your side.
CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) A bit of capriciousness might be just what you need. Plan to kick up your heels in a round of fun and games with family and friends this weekend.
AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Although some of your plans might have to be put on hold, things do begin to take a turn for the better by midweek. Your financial crunch also eases.
PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Your financial picture begins to brighten by week’s end. There are also favorable changes in your personal life. Someone you care for has good news to report.
BORN THIS WEEK: You seek balance, but not at the expense of justice. You would make a fine judge or do great with humanitarian work.
Q:When does the new season of “Elsbeth” start? Also, is anyone else from “The Good Wife” or “The Good Fight” going to join the show? — S.B.
A:Season three of the hit CBS series “Elsbeth” returns Sunday, Oct. 12, at 9:30 p.m. ET, with Carrie Preston returning as the quirky attorney she originated on “The Good Wife” and later played on its spin-off, “The Good Fight.” The first character to cross over to “Elsbeth” was Carter Schmidt, who is played by Christian Borle.
This coming season, Sarah Steele, who previously played Melissa Gold, will appear. The franchise’s creators, Robert and Michelle King, told Entertainment Weekly that Steele was “at the top of the list of actors from ‘The Good Fight’ that we wanted back.” They claimed, “She can read a medical chart and make it funny.”
Guest stars for season three also include Annaleigh Ashford (“Happy Face”) and William Jackson Harper (“The Good Place”). In the season premiere, Stephen Colbert will play a fictional version of himself as a late-night talk show host, alongside Amy Sedaris (“Strangers with Candy”) and Andy Richter (“Conan”). ***
Q:I heard that the teen show “Euphoria” is coming back to HBO. Will it have the same cast? Aren’t they too old now to be high schoolers? — P.M.
A:Yes, “Euphoria” is gearing up to start filming its third season this coming January with most of its original cast scheduled to return. It’ll have been four years since season two ended, but the new season will wisely take place after a time jump. Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney have all become huge stars since the series debuted, but they haven’t forgotten their roots and are expected to return.
Other stars returning include Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie and Maude Apatow. Eric Dane, who was sadly diagnosed with ALS this past year, is also expected to return, but he recently had to bow out as a presenter at the Emmy Awards at the last minute for unknown reasons.
Sharon Stone (“Basic Instinct”) recently confirmed that she has signed on with the show. It’s not known what
role she’ll play, but the Oscar-nominated star will surely make a memorable impression.
Q:I saw that the film “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” just released in theaters. Is it really the final film of the franchise? — O.B.
A:With
the film “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” out now, it would appear that the final chapter of the beloved British historical drama has been written. “Downton Abbey’s” creator Julian Fellowes told Entertainment Weekly that this current film is the conclusion of the saga that he’s been telling since 2010. He said it’s the last time we’ll see this generation of characters.
However, according to EW, “the door has been left open for potential prequels, spin-offs following the children of these characters, and more.”
In the meantime, you should check out the HBO series “The Gilded Age,” if you haven’t. Fellowes is the co-showrunner of the historical drama with Sonja Warfield, and it has recently been renewed for a fourth season. It takes place about three decades before “Downton Abbey” and has a star-studded cast that includes Christine Baranski (“The Good Fight”) and Carrie Coon (“The White Lotus”). A hungry lion was roaming through the jungle looking for something to eat. He came across two men. One was sitting under a tree and reading a book; the other was typing away on his typewriter. The lion quickly pounced on the man reading the book and devoured him. Even the king of the jungle knows that readers digest and writers cramp.
There was a man who entered a local paper’s pun contest. He sent in ten different puns, in the hope that at least one of the puns would win. Unfortunately, no pun in ten did.
A woman has twins, and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named “Amal.” The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him “Juan.”
Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his mom. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Amal. Her husband responds, “But they are twins - if you’ve seen Juan, you’ve seen Amal.”

I’m dating an X-Ray technician... But I don’t know what she sees in me.
I’m trying to remember that movie where the golden retriever becomes an audio technician... Was it... Ear Bud?
In a recent laboratory accident, a technician was frozen to absolute zero. He’s 0k now.
The lights in my house just went out, so I have to call an electrician. I don’t have the experience to deal with the current situation.
The electrician finished fixing my lights. I told him he really brightened my day.
I just found out the electrician I hired is unlicensed. Needless to say, I was shocked!
I was speaking to a computer technician. “How do you make a motherboard?” I asked him. He said, “Tell her about my job.”
As an IT technician, I don’t have the greatest luck with the ladies. I was flirting with a barista the other day, but I couldn’t establish a connection to the server.
Bad part about being a bomb disposal technician... It takes me 6 hours to open my Christmas presents.
Don’t argue with the logic of a sonogram technician; It’s ultrasound.
My car mechanic called me and said, “You can pick up your car by 5 p.m.” I said, “I don’t think I’ll be strong enough by then.”
I have a quantum mechanic... He both repairs and doesn’t repair my car at the same time, and I can never be certain of what the charge will be.
Drilling rig report sees busier northwest Saskatchewan
By Brian Zinchuk
Northwest Saskatchewan is seeing notable drilling activity, according to Canadian Association of Energy Contractors data published by RiggerTalk. com.
The rig count for the province came in at 36, with 35 drilling for oil and one for helium.
As of Sept. 16, there were 13 rigs working in northwest Saskatchewan. Notably, three were working just a few kilometres east of Lloydminster, all for Cenovus. Those three included Precision Drilling (PD) Rigs 146 and 254, and Akita Drilling Rig 8.
Cenovus had a further five rigs in the region, with Ensign Drilling Inc. Rig 533 at Tangleflags, PD 294 and 198 west of Celtic, PD Rig 199 north of Spruce Lake, and PD Rig 197 at Edam.
Strathcona Resources Ltd. employed PD Rig 188 at Meota. Baytex Energy had PD Rig 155 at Pikes Peak. Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. had PD Rig 300 at Rush Lake, east of Maidstone.
Pentacor had Savanna Drilling Rig 436 working at Carruthers, north of Baldwinton. Hemisphere Energy Corporation had Edge Drilling Rig 5 working at Marsden. This is the first time Pipeline Online has seen either Pentacor or Hemisphere show up on
these maps, although they may have been previously missed.
Moving into west central Saskatchewan, there were six rigs working. Strathcona had PD Rig 297 at Plover, where it is developing a new SAGD project. That’s between Denzil and Major. It also had Bonanza Rig 1 working near the south end of Tramping Lake.
Teine Energy had Ensign Rig 351 southeast of Superb and southwest of Kerrobert. A second Teine rig was Ensign Rig 350 sound of Fiske.
Baytex was drilling with Savanna Rig 441 northeast of Kindersley. Just north of Kindersley saw Ish Energy Ltd. drilling with Eding Drilling Rig 6. Only two rigs were drilling in southwest Saskatchewan. Northwest of Swift Current was Savanna Rig 416 drilling for Whitecap Resources Inc. Savanna Rig 629 was drilling for North American Helium north of Ponteix. In southeast Saskatchewan, 15 rigs were drilling.
Tundra Oil & Gas had Stampede Drilling Inc. Rig 4 north of Beaubier and Stampede Rig 16 within spitting distance of the Manitoba border, north of Antler and due west of Cromer. Whitecap employed Panther Drilling Rig 2 in the Weyburn Unit near Halbrite. It also had Stampede Rig 17 east of Lampman, Stampede Rig 7
other parts in
near Hazelwood, and Ensign Rig 423 north of Oxbow.
Also drilling between Hazelwood and Corning were Stampede Rig 3 for Cache Island Corp. and Ensign Rig 808 for Saturn Oil & Gas. At Handsworth, Saturn had Stampede Rig 8.
Near Manor, Stampede Rig 1 was drilling for Saturn as well.
Betts Drilling Rig 1 was north of Al-
ameda for Taprock. Betts Rig 2 was working at Woodley, east of Benson for Aldon Oils Ltd. Spectrum was drilling north of Redvers with Betts Rig 3. Surge Energy Inc. has Stampede Rig 2 south of Lampman.
Alliance Drilling Rig 3 was working for Hummingbird Energy Inc. near Carnduff.

~ “Gorilla-obsessed” Adele Teale, 58, is battling the Wakefield, Yorkshire, council where she lives over a 4-foot-tall resin gorilla she installed on a second-story platform on the front of her house, the Daily Star reported. The “cherished” gorilla, named Caesar, has been deemed “out of character with the surrounding area” and “an obtrusive feature” by the council. “He’s nothing more than a garden ornament,” Teale said. “He is secure up there -- he has been screwed and glued in place. I own the house, it’s mine, so surely I can have whatever I want outside to decorate it. Caesar makes me smile -- he makes me happy.”
Your Friendly Neighbourhood...
~ Have no fear, if you live in Greenville, South Carolina -- Spider-Man is on the job! The 18-year-old superhero fills his down time with picking up litter, meeting fans and listening to his police scanner, WYFF4-TV reported on Sept. 10. Lately, though, he’s been busy, recently saving two people stuck on a waterfall at Falls Park. “So, I saw one of them almost slip and fall ... and I jumped over some rocks to get over there. ... And then they grabbed my wrist, and I pulled them up,” the “friendly downtown Spider-Man” explained. “My intention is to help the people of Greenville, protect and honestly spread kindness along the way,” he said.
~ Kasper Lincoln, 40, of Prince George, British Columbia, was pulled over around 9 a.m. on Sept. 5 as he piloted a hot pink kids’ Barbie Jeep down a busy road, WJW-TV reported. During the stop, police realized Lincoln had a suspended license, and he tested over the legal limit for alcohol. Lincoln said he really wanted a Slurpee, so he took his girlfriend’s daughter’s car. “I never drove it before,” he said. “I was using the hand signals and everything!” But attorney Kyla Lee said Lincoln’s caper poses “a huge safety risk. Nobody wants to hit somebody in a Barbie car, and drivers aren’t looking for Barbie cars in the roadway.” Lincoln was charged with prohibited driving and DUI.
Astro-naughty
~ An 80-year-old woman from Sapporo, Japan, is the latest victim of an online “astronaut,” the South China Morning Post reported on Sept. 5. The man met the octogenarian on social media and claimed to be aboard a spaceship orbiting Earth. He went on to convince her that his ship was “under attack” and he was running out of oxygen -- which could only be remedied by the transfer of 1 million yen to his bank account so he could buy more. Investigators said her communications with the fake spaceman showed she had developed “romantic feelings” for him.

A small number of Nazi officers were killed in the struggle, but after a brief escape, the perpetrators were captured and executed.
• On Oct. 8, 1871, the Peshtigo Fire, today considered the most devastating fire in American history, started in Wisconsin, killing about 1,200 people and consuming 2 billion trees. • On Oct. 9, 1635, Roger Williams was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony by the General Court of Massachusetts for protesting the right of civil authorities to punish religious dissension and to confiscate Native American land. • On Oct. 10, 1973, less than a year before Richard M. Nixon’s resignation as President of the United States, his vice president, Spiro Agnew, resigned in disgrace, pleading no contest to a charge of federal income tax evasion in exchange for dropped charges of political corruption. He was fined $10,000, sentenced to three years’ probation, and disbarred by the Maryland Court of Appeals.
