This is for the birds ...
• The bee hummingbird is the bird that lays the tiniest egg on the planet. Its egg measures slightly less than 0.5″ x 0.25″ and weighs only 0.02 oz.
• The red-billed Quelea is the most common wild bird on the planet, with an estimated adult breeding population of 1.5 billion pairs. It is primarily found in Sub-Saharan Africa, and a single flock can contain thousands of birds. The chicken is the most prevalent nonwild bird.
• The beta-carotene in their crustacean and plankton diet gives the flamingos their pink hue.
• Flamingos stay together for the rest of their lives. Some couples have been together for 50 years or more.
• Fieldfare birds have a unique method of attacking an opposing bird. They surround it and force it to fall to the ground. The Fieldfares then take to the air and defecate on the bird.
• The ostrich lays the world’s largest egg. It is 7″ x 5″ in size and weighs 3 pounds. The kiwi, on the other hand, lays the largest egg for the size of the mother, which is a third of the bird’s weight. It is 5″ long and weighs up to 1 pound. This is the equivalent of an ostrich laying a 40-kilogram (88-pound) egg.
• A woodpecker’s tongue can be up to 4″ long, depending on the species. It stores its long tongue by folding it up and inserting it into a specific hole on the back of its neck, where it may be sandwiched between the skull and the skin.
• The seagulls in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 film The Birds were fed a combination of wheat and whiskey to keep them from flying too much.
• The excrement of the Fieldfare bird can kill an enemy bird.

Q:Is Tina Fey working on any new shows? Did the one about the mayor get canceled? I really loved “30 Rock,” and I’m hoping she’ll do a reboot of it someday.
— S.L.
A:It was recently announced that Fey and her former “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update coanchor, Amy Poehler, will be going on a comedy tour together. Since they are very busy women, they only have time for four cities, at least for now. According to Deadline.com, they’ll kick it off with their first performance on April 29 in Washington, D.C., then on to the improv capital of the world, Chicago, on May 29. From there, Fey and Poehler will appear at Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway on June 9 and will cap off their tour in Atlantic City’s Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena on June 10.
The Tina Fey & Amy Poehler: Restless Leg Tour is calling itself a celebration of “thirty years of friendship with an evening of jokes, iconic stories and conversational entertainment.” Another pair of comedy legends, Steve Martin and Martin Short (who star in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building”), did a similar stage tour last year. Incidentally, Fey had a recurring role on their series as well. There aren’t any plans for a “30 Rock” reunion, which would prove especially difficult given star Alec Baldwin’s recent legal troubles. Her most recent creation, “Mr. Mayor,” starring Ted Danson, was canceled after two seasons. Despite recently striking out, I’m sure it won’t be long before Fey hits another creative home run.

Q:I read a rumor that Sheryl Lee Ralph didn’t really sing at the Super Bowl — that she lip-synced instead. Doesn’t she have a fantastic voice? — U.J.
A:Yes, long before she won an Emmy for her comedy chops in the sitcom “Abbott Elementary,” Sheryl Lee Ralph was nominated for a Tony Award for her powerful vocals in Broadway’s “Dreamgirls.” After she wowed ticketholders at the Super Bowl with her rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” viewers at home wondered if she lip-synced the lyrics instead of singing live. The following day, Ralph neither confirmed nor denied, telling “The Hollywood Reporter,” “Does it matter? … No. Thank you.”

Someone dropped their Scrabble game right in the middle of my road. Well, that’s the word on the street.
My dog ate all of my Scrabble tiles. He left messages all over the house for days after that.
Sonny and Cher were playing a game of Scrabble when Cher asked him, “What tile did you pick?” ... “I’ve got U, babe.”
I had the letters D and O at the end of my Scrabble game. I really had to try and make do.
I really don’t think there’s an edible Scrabble game. If there is, I’ll eat my words.
I just lost a game of Scrabble. But honestly, it didn’t look good from the word go.
I forgot to pay for my Scrabble membership. Now they’re sending me threatening letters!
What’s the most dangerous part about playing Scrabble? Someone could lose an I.
I just ate a handful of Scrabble tiles. Now I’m worried my next bathroom trip will spell disaster.

David Yager to chair Alberta premier’s advisory council on energy future, report in June
Twice last week, SaskEnergy set new daily natural gas usage records, and we can thank Alberta for most of our supply
BY BRIAN ZINCHUK brian.zinchuk@pipelineonline.ca
EDMONTON – Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has appointed a five-member panel “to map out Alberta’s energy future.”
Not only was Saskatchewan setting electrical consumption records during the cold snap of last week of December, we also set two consecutive natural gas consumption records, too.
The premier has taken a critical view of the “energy transition,” and its impact on Canada’s energy industry, which is principally based in Alberta.
According to SaskEnergy in a Dec. 31 release, “Extreme cold weather across Saskatchewan this week resulted in record-breaking natural gas demand in the province. On December 28 and 29, natural gas consumption surpassed the previous daily record of 1.57 petajoules (PJ) which was set in February 2021.

plant, very similar to Chinook, is under construction at Moose Jaw.
All of this added natural gas-fired power generation has, in turn, driven higher usage of natural gas during times of high electrical consumption.
The Crown noted that increased demand from SaskEnergy’s industrial customers, including natural gas use for power production, was the main driver of this week’s record-setting consumption.
A new advisory panel will develop a long-term vision for Alberta’s energy future and recommend steps the province should take to ensure the industry continues to thrive for decades to come, according to the Feb. 16 release.
“A new daily record of 1.62 PJ was set on December 28 and broken again on December 29 with total system delivery of 1.64 PJ. Delivery numbers for December 30 and 31 are not yet finalized, but are also expected to exceed 1.6 PJ.”
The natural gas records coincided with record power consumption. On Dec. 29, SaskPower set another record in power consumption for Saskatchewan. At 5:27 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2021, Saskatchewan homes and businesses reached 3,868 megawatts (MW) in power use, according to the Crown corporation. The previous record of 3,792 MW was reached four years ago to the day, on Dec. 29, 2017.
The group will be known as the “Premier’s Advisory Council on Alberta’s Energy Future.”
It will be chaired by David Yager, an executive and writer with more than four decades of experience and expertise in the energy industry. Yager’s opinion columns have been a regular feature of Pipeline Online since its inception.
He will be joined by Hal Kvisle, who was president and CEO of TransCanada Corporation from 2001 to 2010.
Saskatchewan’s power production has increasingly shifted from coal to natural gas as a fuel source. In December, Boundary Dam Unit 4, a coal-fired generating unit, was retired, reducing the Boundary Dam Power Station to 672 megawatts capacity. On the natural gas side, Saskatchewan has seen the construction of several new natural gas-fired power plants. They include the baseload North Battleford Power Station (289 megawatts), Yellowhead Power Station peaking plant (also at North Battleford, 135 megawatts), the baseload Chinook Power Station at Swift Current (353 megawatts) and peaking plant Spy Hill Power Station (89 megawatts). Another 353 megawatt baseload
Carey Arnett is president of A&B Pipeliners, one of Canada’s longest-operating pipeline contractors.
Bob Curran, who spent 20 as VP of communications with the EUB and AER years as director with the Alberta Energy Regulator, and currently consults with the Canada Energy Regulator.
Smith said in a release, “I’m excited to bring together these skilled and experienced energy experts to help us plot a path forward for Alberta’s energy sector. We all know the world needs long-term energy solutions that are responsible, reliable and affordable. Now is the perfect time to create a panel of experts to look ahead to the future of our energy sector and how we can meet global energy needs in the years ahead.”
SaskEnergy said it measures daily natural gas consumption for the 24-hour period from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. A PJ is a unit of measurement equivalent to one million gigajoules (GJ) of natural gas. An average Saskatchewan home consumes about 100 GJ of natural gas each year.
“SaskEnergy’s natural gas system design can accommodate additional capacity to manage increased consumption even on peak days,” SaskEnergy president and CEO Ken From said in a release. “Throughout the year, SaskEnergy employees inspect, maintain and enhance the system to support safe and reliable natural gas delivery in all weather conditions. In addition, employees monitor the system 24 hours a day to ensure sufficient system capacity to meet customer demand across the province.”
This province is now largely dependent on neighbouring Alberta to fulfill roughly two-thirds of our natural gas needs.
When natural gas prices took a tumble roughly 14 years ago, Saskatchewan’s domestic gas production fell off a cliff. Targeted gas drilling went essentially extinct, with next to no gas-specific wells being drilled in this province for most of the past decade. Our domestic gas production is now largely based on associated gas production that comes with oil production. As a result, Saskatchewan went from being a net gas exporter for the period of 1988 to 2009 to a net importer that year.
The advisory panel will engage with relevant ministries including, but not limited to, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Environment and Protected Areas, the Ministry of Affordability and Utilities, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and the Ministry of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction to ensure collaboration across government, in consultation with industry stakeholders. The panel will conduct research, gather input from experts, prepare analysis and generate recommendations in consultation with relevant ministries.
Yager said in a release, “I’m proud to lead this talented and dedicated group of leaders as, together, we develop a vision for the province’s energy future. Industry leaders are already commercializing innovative emissions-reduc-

tion technologies and leading the way in tackling the world’s biggest energy challenges. Our task will be to lay out clear recommendations that ensure this work is supported and continues well into the future.”
Asked by Pipeline Online on Feb. 17 what the panel would be looking at, Yager’s answer was simple: “Everything.”
He added “The premier has a strong interest in decarbonization and the energy transition.”
Yager’s writings, for Energy Now, the Canadian Energy Centre, and Pipeline Online in recent years have been unapologetically in favour of continued oil and gas development and exploration, and critical of those who assail the industry and its importance.
His bio on Pipeline Online reads:
David Yager is, bar none, one of the best writers in the Canadian oilpatch, going back to his days as co-owner, publisher and editor of The Roughneck Magazine from 1979 to 1992. Since then he’s been a senior officer, director and founder of Tesco Corporation, Integrated Production Services Ltd. and HSE Integrated Ltd. He spent four years as national leader oilfield services for accounting, tax and consulting firm MNP LLP. These days he’s president and CEO of Winterhawk Casing Expansion Services,
developer of a new wellbore methane leak shutoff tool. In 2009/2010, he was chairman of the Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC). Oh yeah, and he started on drilling rigs swinging tongs in the early 1970s.
His analysis delves deep into the meaningful issues facing the energy industry. These are not short soundbites, folks, but well-reasoned, full meat-and-potatoes pieces that get to the bottom of the issues.
Yager has also tried his hand at politics, and was president of Alberta’s Wildrose Party from 2012 to 2014 and an MLA candidate in 2012.
His 2019 book, From Miracle to Menace – Alberta, A Carbon Story, explains how Alberta’s massive oil and gas industry came to be, the enormity of the planned financial dislocation, and how Alberta, and Canada, can meet the climate challenge without committing economic suicide. Yager’s writings are also carried by EnergyNow.ca, Business in Calgary, the CBC and Canadian Energy Center. Yager’s current content is provided by the Canadian Energy Centre.
However, it is unlikely he will continue writing while in this position.
A final report from the council will be completed by June 30. Alberta has a fixed election date, and the next Provincial General Election is scheduled to be held on May 29, 2023

• On March 7, 161 A.D., Marcus Aurelius became emperor of Rome at the age of 39, after the death of his predecessor, Antoninus Pius, and after patiently waiting more than 20 years to assume that role. He was extremely popular, and his reign would later be recalled as a “golden age.”
• On Feb. 25, 1570, Pope Pius V declared England’s Queen Elizabeth I a heretic and excommunicated her from the Roman Catholic Church by way of a papal bull releasing Catholics from any loyalty to her and calling upon them to remove her from the throne.

• On Feb. 22, 1879, Frank Winfield Woolworth opened the Great 5 Cents Store (later Woolworth’s) in Utica, New York. Family Values
Tony Toto and his wife, Frances, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, are celebrating 57 years of marriage, WFMZ-TV reported in a feelgood Valentine’s Day story. “We have been blessed that we had all these years,” Tony said, noting “that one time when we had a rough time.” Yeah, that was the time in 1983 when Frances hired teenaged hitmen five times to kill Tony. “I don’t think I was thinking straight,” Frances said. “It was like it was a lovehate kind of a thing.” Of course, the murder attempts weren’t successful, and Frances and the young hitmen were arrested. She spent four years in prison, but their love never wavered. A feature film called “I Love You to Death” was made about their troubles, and they became minor celebrities, traveling to movie premieres and giving interviews. Tony and Frances got counseling and committed to better communication, and decades later, have a long marriage to show for their efforts.

Healthy Little Muffins Pack Big Nutrition
Are you familiar with Aussie Bites? I first learned about them at Costco, where a sample made me a fan in one bite. These delectable little mini muffins pack big nutrition in a small package.
The main ingredient is whole grain rolled oats, and they’re filled with superfoods like chia seeds, flaxseed, dried fruits, sunflower seeds, coconut, quinoa, honey and more. These nutritious bites are a great source of plant-based protein, fiber, healthy fatty acids and minerals. They contain omega-3 fatty acids, which boost the immune system and help improve brain function. Pretty cool, right?
It’s not often you find a snack that’s both delicious and nutritious. There’s only one thing I don’t like about them, and that’s the price. Depending on where you buy them, these tiny treats can be up to a dollar each. Yikes!
small amounts of some more expensive ingredients. This is where I buy ground flaxseed, chia seeds, dried fruits, quinoa and honey. Also, this is a very forgiving recipe for using substitutions. No quinoa? No problem. Swap in what you have like nuts, more dried fruit, even add an egg if you like.
But first! Why are these called Aussie Bites? They’re not even from Australia! They’re made in California. Turns out they’re an Americanization of the Anzac Biscuit recipe. This cookie was popular in World War I care packages that wives and mothers sent to soldiers of the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC), since they could be made without eggs, and they kept well on the long overseas voyage to Europe. Now you know.
HOMEMADE AUSSIE BITES
1/4 cup quinoa, cooked or uncooked
2 tablespoons chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup honey or pure maple syrup
1/4 cup butter or coconut oil, melted 1/4 cup canola oil or other vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, optional
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Lightly grease a 24-count mini muffin pan. Place 1 cup of the rolled oats in a food processor and process for about 1 minute, until the oats are ground into oat flour. Add the remaining 3/4 cup rolled oats, sugar, apricots, raisins, flaxseed, sunflower seeds, coconut, quinoa, chia seeds and baking soda to the food processor. Pulse until the apricots and raisins are in small pieces. Add the honey, melted butter, canola oil and vanilla extract. Pulse until just combined. The batter will be like a stiff oatmeal cookie batter. Using rounded tablespoons, divide the batter among the prepared muffin cups. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown. Cool in the pan on a wire cooling rack. When completely cooled, remove the muffins from the pan and store in an airtight container for four to five days or freeze for up to six months. You’ll love having Aussie Bites as a quick breakfast or snack any time of the day.

So, I decided to make them myself, and so can you. Making them yourself not only saves money, but it also means having complete control of the ingredients you choose to put in them. This copycat recipe of Costco Aussie Bites is gluten-free, and free of eggs and peanuts, which are common allergens. They can easily be made vegan and/or dairy-free.
For maximum savings, I recommend utilizing the bulk foods section of your grocery store to purchase

A 2 year old kid gets into a stack of board games. And before his parents notice, he has them all open and pieces everywhere. The folks clean up the mess but soon realize that there are pieces missing from the Battleship game.
They rush the kid to the hospital, and sure enough, x-rays show he has swallowed some pieces. The doctor finds an aircraft carrier and two smaller boats in the kids intestines. The doc is especially worried about the carrier, as it is larger and has sharp corners.
The boy is admitted and given medicine to help move things along and spends the night under observation.
The next morning, the doctor enters his room to find a nurse holding a bed pan. The doctor asks "Is that the aircraft carrier?" To which the nurse responds "No, its just two ships that passed in the night."

A man went to visit a friend and was amazed to find him playing chess with his dog. He watched the game in astonishment for a while. "I can hardly believe my eyes!" he exclaimed. "That's the smartest dog I've ever seen."
"Nah, he's not so smart," the friend replied. "I've beaten him three games out of five."
