Q:

I saw that Natasha Lyonne has a new show on Peacock. Does this mean “Russian Doll” has been canceled? — Y.B.

A:With so many networks and streaming platforms available now, actors aren’t limited to just one show anymore. Look at Adam Scott, for example. He had major roles on three shows in the past year (“Severance,” “Loot” and the upcoming third season of “Party Down”).

Lyonne has been just as busy since she had a career resurgence playing an inmate on Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black.” She followed that up with the Emmy-nominated “Russian Doll,” and while a third season is still in limbo, Lyonne has gone on to film another series, “Poker Face.” Hopefully she can juggle both shows if Netflix comes calling again. ***

Q:

My 90-year-old mother’s favorite drama is “Chicago Med.” She especially loves the handsome actor who plays Dr. Marcel. Can you tell us what else he’s been in? — A.K.

A:Dominic

Rains plays Dr. Crockett Marcel on the hit series “Chicago Med,” which airs on NBC on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET. (It’s part of what’s billed as the One Chicago lineup, followed by “Chicago Fire” at 9 p.m. and “Chicago P.D.” at 10 p.m.) He joined the ensemble cast as the trauma surgeon in its fifth season.

Rains, 40, was born in Tehran, Iran, but grew up in a Dallas suburb called The Colony. His first role on camera was in the TV movie “Saving Jessica Lynch.” He went on to play Dr. Leo Julian on the daytime soap “General Hospital” as well as its spin-off “General Hospital: Night Shift.” He’s had a slew of primetime guest-star appearances on shows like “NCIS” and “24” before landing a recurring role as a character named Kasius on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Rains was born Amin Nazemzadeh, but didn’t change his name until he got the role on “GH.” His brother, Ethan, got him into acting in the first place, and the two both had roles on the short-lived Heather Locklear series “LAX.”

Q:

What happened to “Yellowstone”? I keep waiting for more new episodes, but the last one was in early January. Is it done for the season? — M.M.

A:According to “TV Guide,” “Yellowstone” decided to split season five into two parts, with the remaining six episodes to come. Viewers have been on the edge of their seats during the first half, as a “civil war has broken out among the Duttons, with Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) at each other’s throats.” Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton, is also at risk of being impeached as governor.

“Yellowstone” originally began as a summer series on the Paramount Network, and the latter half of season five will air sometime during the summer of 2023. No official air date has been announced yet, however. Joining the cast this past season is actress Dawn Olivieri, who played Claire Dutton in the “Yellowstone” prequel series “1883.” Her new character, Sarah Atwood, is a complete 180 from Claire. Look for her to continue to stir things up in Montana.

During traditional peak of the drilling season, 33 rigs were making hole in Saskatchewan

Twice last week, SaskEnergy set new daily natural gas usage records, and we can thank Alberta for most of our supply

ESTEVAN – Right around now is historically the annual peak of oilwell drilling activity in Saskatchewan. As of Feb. 14, there were 32 rigs making hole in this province, according to RiggerTalk.com, which publishes data from the Canadian Association of Energy Contractors (CAOEC).

Spectrum Resources had Stampede Drilling Rig 1 working.

plant, very similar to Chinook, is under construction at Moose Jaw.

Not only was Saskatchewan setting electrical consumption records during the cold snap of last week of December, we also set two consecutive natural gas consumption records, too.

According to SaskEnergy in a Dec. 31 release, “Extreme cold weather across Saskatchewan this week resulted in record-breaking natural gas demand in the province. On December 28 and 29, natural gas consumption surpassed the previous daily record of 1.57 petajoules (PJ) which was set in February 2021.

While you were giving flowers to your sweetie, these rigs were turning to the right.

“A new daily record of 1.62 PJ was set on December 28 and broken again on December 29 with total system delivery of 1.64 PJ. Delivery numbers for December 30 and 31 are not yet finalized, but are also expected to exceed 1.6 PJ.”

The data also showed which companies were doing the most drilling, both on the oil company side, and on the drilling company side.

The natural gas records coincided with record power consumption. On Dec. 29, SaskPower set another record in power consumption for Saskatchewan. At 5:27 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2021, Saskatchewan homes and businesses reached 3,868 megawatts (MW) in power use, according to the Crown corporation. The previous record of 3,792 MW was reached four years ago to the day, on Dec. 29, 2017.

For the top five operators, Whitecap Resources Inc. came in on top, with six rigs working. They were followed by Crescent Point Energy Corp. at four, and Teine Energy at three. Baytex Energy and Saturn Oil & Gas and Tundra Oil & Gast all had two rigs each, in a tie for fourth.

As for drilling companies, Stampede Drilling had seven rigs, followed by Precision Drilling at six, and Savanna Drilling at four. Betts Drilling and Bonanza had three rigs each.

Saskatchewan’s power production has increasingly shifted from coal to natural gas as a fuel source. In December, Boundary Dam Unit 4, a coal-fired generating unit, was retired, reducing the Boundary Dam Power Station to 672 megawatts capacity. On the natural gas side, Saskatchewan has seen the construction of several new natural gas-fired power plants. They include the baseload North Battleford Power Station (289 megawatts), Yellowhead Power Station peaking plant (also at North Battleford, 135 megawatts), the baseload Chinook Power Station at Swift Current (353 megawatts) and peaking plant Spy Hill Power Station (89 megawatts). Another 353 megawatt baseload

In southeast Saskatchewan there were 15 rigs working, with a cluster of five close to Lampman, and the rest spread out.

At Gainsborough, Tundra Oil & Gas had Ensign Drilling Rig 10 working about a kilometre east of town. About 12 kilometres north of Gainsborough,

All of this added natural gas-fired power generation has, in turn, driven higher usage of natural gas during times of high electrical consumption.

Saturn Oil & Gas had Betts Drilling Rig 3 near Glen Ewen. Taprock Energy Inc. had Betts Rig 4 near the intersection of Highways 18 and 9.

The Crown noted that increased demand from SaskEnergy’s industrial customers, including natural gas use for power production, was the main driver of this week’s record-setting consumption.

Northeast of North Portal, Vermillion Energy Inc. had Panther Drilling Corp. Rig 2 drilling south of the Souris River.

SaskEnergy said it measures daily natural gas consumption for the 24-hour period from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. A PJ is a unit of measurement equivalent to one million gigajoules (GJ) of natural gas. An average Saskatchewan home consumes about 100 GJ of natural gas each year.

“SaskEnergy’s natural gas system design can accommodate additional capacity to manage increased consumption even on peak days,” SaskEnergy president and CEO Ken From said in a release. “Throughout the year, SaskEnergy employees inspect, maintain and enhance the system to support safe and reliable natural gas delivery in all weather conditions. In addition, employees monitor the system 24 hours a day to ensure sufficient system capacity to meet customer demand across the province.”

This province is now largely dependent on neighbouring Alberta to fulfill roughly two-thirds of our natural gas needs.

West of Willmar, Stampede Rig 3 was drilling for Anova Resources. To the west of there was the Lampman cluster. Just north of town, Whitecap Resources Inc. had Stampede Rig 17 drilling. About 15 kilometres north-northwest, the same company employed Ensign Drilling Rig 423. Aldon Oils had Betts Rig 2 working west of Lampman (the road directions read “follow the turkey trail into location”).

When natural gas prices took a tumble roughly 14 years ago, Saskatchewan’s domestic gas production fell off a cliff. Targeted gas drilling went essentially extinct, with next to no gas-specific wells being drilled in this province for most of the past decade. Our domestic gas production is now largely based on associated gas production that comes with oil production. As a result, Saskatchewan went from being a net gas exporter for the period of 1988 to 2009 to a net importer that year.

East of Benson, Surge Energy had Stampede Drilling Rig 2 working. A little south of that, near Woodley, Stampede Rig 7 was drilling for Crescent Point Energy Corp.

Crescent Point’s next rig was working about 10 kilometres north of Stoughton, with Savanna Drilling Rig 419 making hole. Their third rig was just north of Warmley, itself north of Kisbey. That was Precision Drilling Rig 195.

Whitecap had Precision Drilling Rig 275 working in the Weyburn Unit.

CONTINUED ...

Stampede Rig 4 was working for Tundra at Radcliff, near the U.S. border.

Shifting to southwest Saskatchewan, Whitecap had two rigs going. Predator Drilling Rig 9 was just southeast of Hazlet, and Bonanza Drilling Rig 3 halfway between Hazlet and Gull Lake.

About 22 kilometres southwest of Gull Lake, North American Helium continued its quest to expand their working areas. This well was being drilled by Savanna Rig 629.

About 25 kilometres north-northwest of Shaunavon, Crescent Point had Savanna Rig 416 working.

Moving into west central Saskatchewan, 15 kilometres south of Elrose, Baytex Energy Corp.

Teine Energy had Ensign Rig 537 just northeast of Plato.

In an area that doesn’t see much drilling, Saturn Oil & Gas had Savanna Rig 431 working. About 18 kilometres north of Kindersley, Teine had Ensign Rig 350 employed. It also had Ensign Rig 356 working northwest of Brock.

About 11 kilometres north of Coleville, Whitecap had Bonanza Rig 2 working, while Baytex had Ensign Rig 650 drilling.

About the same distance west of Coleville, Baytex had Savanna Rig 425 drilling.

Teine had Ensign Rig 351 drilling southwest of Hoosier. Novus had Bonanza Rig 1 drilling a little further south of that.

A little north of Macklin, Longshore Resources Employed Tempco Drilling Rig 9.

West of Cut Knife, Lycos Energy Inc had Stampede Rig 22 drilling.

There were four rigs working in northwest Saskatchewan. Cenovus Energy Inc had Precision Drilling Rig 197 at Vawn and PD Rig 198 at Rush Lake.

Strathcona Resources had Precision Drilling Rig 188 at Vawn.

Rife Resources employed Precision Drilling Rig 204 north of Lashburn.

Momo the lar gibbon, who lives at the Kujukushima Zoo and Botanical Garden Mori Kirara in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, delivered a baby in February 2021, which surprised zookeepers, since Momo lived in her own enclosure with no males around. She was very protective of the offspring, United Press International reported, so it wasn’t until two years later that handlers were able to collect DNA from the youngster to determine who the father was. As it turned out, a 34-year-old agile gibbon, Itou, was the baby daddy. Zookeepers found that a partition between Momo’s exhibit and Itou’s off-display area had a perforated board with holes about 9mm in diameter, and they believe the two were able to mate through one of those holes. The perforated board was replaced with a steel plate, but Momo and Itou will be introduced properly to each other so that they may live as a family.

This Big Easy Classic

Couldn’t Be Easier

It’s no surprise that red beans and rice is one of the dishes most strongly associated with the enchanting city of New Orleans, also called “The Big Easy.” It’s delicious, nutritious, easy to prepare and happily inexpensive.

While New Orleans is known for its tantalizing cuisine, it’s also known for Mardi Gras, a celebration of food, music and pleasure. This year Mardi Gras falls on Feb. 21, and this traditional NOLA dish is a perfect way to celebrate.

Red beans and rice are customarily made on Mondays in the South. The time-honored recipe uses the leftover ham bone from Sunday’s dinner simmered all day with beans and served over rice. So, turns out we’re cooking like it’s Monday while celebrating Fat Tuesday. But I digress. Let’s cook food!

BIG EASY RED BEANS AND RICE

Yield: 4 to 6 servings

Total Time: 90 minutes

1 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil

1 link (13.5 ounce) smoked sausage, andouille or kielbasa, cut into 1/4inch slices

1 large onion (1 1/2 cups), chopped

2 ribs celery (1 cup), chopped

1 green bell pepper (about 1 cup), chopped

2-3 cloves garlic, minced

3 cups chicken broth

1 tablespoon Creole seasoning

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

2 bay leaves

2 (15.5 ounce) cans red beans, drained and rinsed

6 cups cooked rice

In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Saute the smoked

To make this shortcut recipe weeknight easy, we’re using canned beans. You could certainly use dried beans prepared according to package directions.

The beans used in this recipe are small red beans. If you can’t find them, substitute red kidney beans. Traditionally, this recipe calls for andouille (an-DOO-ee) sausage, which has a nice spicy kick. If you can’t find andouille or prefer a milder sausage, substitute kielbasa or other smoked sausage.

sausage to render all that flavorful fat. Remove the sausage and set aside. In the same skillet, saute the onion, celery, green bell pepper and garlic until tender. Add the chicken broth, seasoning, thyme, pepper and bay leaves. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a bare simmer. Add beans and return sausage, then simmer for at least 45 minutes; but the longer it cooks, the better it gets! Doesn’t the house smell delicious? This is how you want the house to smell when you

invite company over for dinner. Stir it occasionally and add water, if needed. Taste and adjust seasoning, adding salt if desired. Serve the beans with the rice and Dixieland jazz music. Since rice is such an important element of this dish, go to the extra effort of making really flavorful rice.

IRRESISTIBLE RICE

Yield: 6 cups

Total Time: 30 minutes

4 cups of chicken broth or bouillon 2 cups long grain white or basmati rice

1 tablespoon of butter

Bring broth to a boil then add rice and butter. If you used low sodium broth, add 1/2 teaspoon salt. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes for perfect rice every time.

Save money by making your own creole seasoning with this recipe.

CREOLE SEASONING

Yield: 1/3 cup

Total Time: 5 minutes

1 tablespoon paprika

1 tablespoon kosher salt

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1/2 tablespoon black pepper

1/2 tablespoon onion powder

1/2 tablespoon dried oregano

1/2 tablespoon dried thyme

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste

Blend all ingredients. Use within two months.

I’ll close with the words that New Orleans native, trumpeter and vocalist Louis Armstrong used to sign his letters: “Red Beans & Ricely Yours.”

But now the question is, how will people remember Super Bowl 57? As far as I’m concerned, it was one of the most exciting and entertaining Super Bowl games ever. It’s unfortunate that the final 3 minutes of the game played out the way it did, but one thing is for sure, that three minutes will be discussed and rehashed for a long time. Was it a holding penalty or not? Either way, there are many who believe that it tarnished the end of the game.

Patrick Mahomes became the first player in NFL history to win multiple league MVP’s and multiple championships within his first six seasons in the league. With Tom Brady riding off into the sunset being called the “Greatest of All Time”, there are already some people making references to Mahomes as a candidate for GOAT. He is only 27 and has so much time to win more titles and more MVP’s but hold on a minute, I think this reference at this early point of his career is a little premature. Granted Patrick Mahomes joins Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Bobby Orr, Magic Johnson and Tim Duncan as the only players in NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL history to win multiple championship round MVP awards within their first six seasons.

There are many factors that determine the fate of an NFL quarterback. Health and supporting cast members are only a couple of things that come quickly to mind. One thing for sure, Mahomes is special, and I’m so glad that I was able to witness this amazing game.

Now we enter the off season with some major questions on player movement. The biggest question in the NFL right now is …. Will Aaron Rodgers stay a Green Bay Packer or does he find a team for one last run at a Super Bowl? Time and one huge contract will answer that question.

• The pencil has been proven mightier than the pen. As a counterpoint to Bic’s research, another group decided to find out how long the typical pencil lasts. They concluded that the average lead pencil can draw a continuous line for roughly 35 miles. However, if you wish to prove this yourself, we’d advise taking your best sharpener along with you.

This is one of the biggest reasons why yellow is the most popular colour of fluorescent highlighter ink. So, as Chris Martin of Coldplay fame might say, “It’s all yellow”.

• The ballpoint pen first gained popularity because it didn’t leak at high altitudes. Laszlo Biro, a Hungarian journalist, first invented the ballpoint pen in 1938 when he filled his fountain pen with ink from a printing press to avoid leaks because it dried faster. However, success for the ballpoint pen first took off (literally) when the RAF adopted it during World War II because it wouldn’t leak at high altitudes.

This accidental discovery was then used to create the world’s first post-it note.

• The world’s first printer was invented in 1440. Okay, officially this refers to the world’s first printing press, which was invented around 1440 by Gutenberg for the Holy Roman Empire. Nonetheless, the same press-type technique is still evident in many of today’s office toner printers, which press ink onto paper from a roller rather than a flat surface.

Conflict vs. bullying: what’s the difference?

Conflict and bullying aren’t the same things. One describes a healthy dialogue between two parties, while the other represents an intent to harm someone else. Learning to deal with conflict healthily can give you essential social skills. It can also help you better identify bullying.

WHAT’S CONFLICT?

Conflict is a normal part of life and happens when two people respectfully disagree. The two parties have equal power in the relationship, and each has a chance to express their views.

Even though there may be negative emotions and hurtful words exchanged, both people are looking for a solution and don’t want to harm each other. Each person takes responsibility for their actions and modifies their behaviour if they feel they’ve made the other person feel bad. Conflict can often lead to two people learning to solve problems and overcome challenges.

WHAT’S BULLYING?

Unlike conflict, the goal of bullying is to hurt, harm, insult or humiliate another person and make them feel bad about themselves. The actions are unwanted and unwarranted, and the bullied person has little power to stop them. Bullying can result in physical and emotional harm.

Bullying happens when one person uses their power to control another. Power can mean the bully is bigger, stronger, older or more popular than the person they’re bullying. Moreover, bullies aren’t trying to resolve anything and show no remorse if they hurt someone else. There’s no interest in a relationship with the other person.

This Pink Shirt Day, February 22, stand up to bullying when you see it. Don’t be afraid to share your views and express your opinions constructively. Not all conflict is bad.
