Sky’s the limit with innovative aviation training investment

Alberta’s government is revolutionizing aviation training by supporting cutting-edge virtual reality technology.

It is estimated by Transport Canada that there will be a shortage of 42,000 to 55,000 workers in the aviation sector from 2025 to 2035. Across Canada, colleges graduate only a fraction of the aviation professionals required by the labour market each year. Alberta is investing in innovation to help fill this gap in the aviation industry.

Alberta’s government is proud to announce a $900,000 commitment awarded through the Workforce Strategies Grant to Elevate Aviation to benefit aviation training efforts across the province. This pivotal funding will fuel the creation of a revolutionary Virtual Reality (VR) Aviation Maintenance Training System, jetset to address the sector’s pressing workforce challenges with unprecedented innovation. Additionally, this announcement highlights the government’s dedication to elevating Alberta’s aviation industry through enhanced training.

“This investment marks a new era in aviation training. With this $900,000 grant, we are not only funding a project, we are also investing in the future of our aviation workforce. The VR Training System represents a game-changing approach that will fast-track the development of highly skilled aviation professionals while helping to address critical workforce shortages.”

Elevate Aviation’s VR Maintenance Training System is set to revolutionize how aviation maintenance is taught. This state-of-the-art system uses immersive VR technology to create lifelike training environments, enabling trainees to perfect their skills in a riskfree setting. This dynamic approach will accelerate learning and give graduates the experience they need to be industry-ready from day one.

Alberta’s government also proudly supports Elevate Aviation Learning Centre’s (EALC) current Aviation Readiness Training programs through a $5-million grant awarded in 2023, reinforcing Alberta’s commitment to cutting-edge education and industry advancement.

“Our VR Training System is a giant step forward for aviation education. By integrating VR, we are breaking down barriers and providing a modern, effective solution to meet the urgent need for skilled aviation professionals. This investment is a clear signal that Alberta is committed to staying ahead of the curve in aviation training.”

Progress on primary care compensation: Minister LaGrange

Minister of Health Adriana LaGrange issued the following statement on the significant progress being made to develop a new primary care compensation model in Alberta:

“As Alberta’s health minister, I am committed to securing primary health care as the foundation of the entire health care system, and family physicians are fundamental to our plan. I am proud of the significant progress we’ve made in building a fair and sustainable compensation model for primary care physicians, a commitment we began last October when I signed a memorandum of understanding with the president of the Alberta Medical Association (AMA), Dr. Paul Parks. This is not just a policy – it’s part of our commitment to Albertans, ensuring that our health care system is equipped to deliver the best possible care to every Albertan.

“That is why, since December 2023, Alberta’s government has announced new funding of $257 million over the next two years to stabilize family physician practices and improve access to family doctors, with $157 million committed this year alone.

“In April, we announced a new primary care compensation model to be developed in close collaboration with the AMA.

“Alberta doctors are already among the highest paid in the country, and under this new model, we’ll be able to sustain that high level of compensation while improving access to primary care for patients.

“We knew from the start that developing a new physician compensation model would be a complex and time-consuming process. This work was never

about quick fixes, and there is still a little more work to be done.

“I want to thank outgoing AMA president Dr. Paul Parks for his continued advocacy and for working so diligently with me and our teams to get us so close to finalization. I’m pleased to report that we are making significant progress on a model that will be financially sustainable and support both our physicians and Albertans well into the future.”

Helping kids with cancer thrive

Alberta’s government is supporting young Albertans struggling with cancer by investing in Camp Kindle.

Camp Kindle is Alberta’s only camp dedicated, and medically equipped, to care for children with cancer, which is why Alberta’s government is providing $500,000 to the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta to expand capacity and accessibility at the camp. This investment will help Camp Kindle replace and upgrade its facilities to create a central hub for diverse and accessible indoor activities, ensuring everyone can safely participate.

This funding, which will expand Camp Kindle’s capacity to better support young people affected by cancer and help them thrive, exemplifies the Alberta government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals and their families.

“The Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta does incredible work to help young people affected by cancer. We are lucky to have such a world-class organization here in Alberta that brings hope and support to children and families when they need it most. I know this funding will play a key role for Camp Kindle in expanding its capacity to im-

“We’re deeply grateful to the individuals, businesses and government that have given to this project, which
