Ruby has a special alarm clock.

COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO!!

“It’s time to get up!” it bellows.

She doesn’t use the alarm very often, because Ruby likes to stay in her comfy bed for a bit longer.

But Ruby always sets her alarm clock for Easter morning, because that’s when the Easter Bunny drops by …

And that’s today!

Aunt Cato’s baby chicks stumble in with their Easter baskets.

“Yay, the Easter Bunny brought us chocolate eggs!’ they shout. ‘He’s hid them all over the place.

It’s so exciting to search for Easter eggs!”

But no matter how hard they search; they cannot find a single egg. Not in the grass, not behind the flowers ...

That is weird.

“Is the Easter Bunny sick maybe?

Did he eat too many of his own Easter eggs?”

“No, the Easter Bunny is still asleep!” says the mole.

“You can even hear him snoring from here.”

And it’s true, now that Ruby and the chicks are listening carefully, they do hear snoring.

It’s coming from a wee house further away.

The closer they get to the house, the louder the snoring sounds.

“So, this is the Easter Bunny’s house?” the little chicks ask surprised.

“I think so”, nods Ruby.

“Look, there is his cool delivery bike. It’s filled with Easter eggs in all kinds of colours.”

“Are you looking for the Easter Bunny?” a comforting voice asks gently.

A shiny bell looks kindly at Ruby.

“Hush now, the Easter Bunny is still sleeping”, the bell whispers.

“He worked very late to finish the Easter eggs in time.

Every Easter, I have to make sure that he wakes up on time. I am the Easter Bell.”

“But I can’t wake up the Easter Bunny this year”, she sighs. “Do you see the bird nest on my head?

If I ring ‘ding dong’ too loudly, that will startle the little birds and they might fall out of their nest.”

“I understand”, nods Ruby.

“Those little babies look very cute.”

The Easter Bunny is still sound asleep in his bed.

“I have a plan!” Ruby whispers.

‘If we hide the Easter eggs, the Easter Bunny can simply sleep in.

“That’s a good idea Ruby!” the little chickens peep.

Ting-a-ling ting-a-ling!

Ruby rides the bike and the chickens scatter the chocolate eggs everywhere.

“Now, you are all real Easter chickens”, Ruby laughs.

“And you are a real Easter Bunny Ruby!” the little chickens screech with joy.

Yummy Easter eggs are lying all over the place now.

In the grass, behind the flowers, in the trees …

“That one looks scrumptious”, snorts the piglet.

“I’m so ha-a-a-a-appy”, bleats the little lamb.

“Look, mine has a really lovely bow!’ beams the hedgehog.

‘How many eggs can we all collect?” the mole wonders.

When the Easter Bunny finally wakes up, he can’t believe his eyes.

“Ruby and the chicks have been a great help to you and hid all the eggs on time,” the Easter Bell says with a big smile.

“You know what, dear Easter Bunny”, cackles Ruby, “I’m going to give you an Easter present too. I’ll give you my chicken alarm clock, so, you’ll never oversleep again.”

“Yay!” the Easter Bell chimes in. “Now I can have a new nest on my head every year in springtime!”

“Now off you go,” the Easter Bunny laughs, “go and enjoy eating your Easter eggs. You’ve all earned that.”

Ruby always sets the alarm for Easter.

She loves searching for Easter eggs together with the little chicks. But there aren’t any chocolate eggs at all this year! What’s going on?

The Easter Bell explains to Ruby why the Easter Bunny is still asleep.

Luckily, Ruby and the little chicks are willing to lend a hand …
