Study money

Sarasota High School graduate Diana “Nicole” Valero and Sarasota Military Academy graduate Abigail Koester each received $2,000 scholarships from the Education Foundation of Sarasota to attend schools of their choosing. Valero will attend the University of South Florida this fall where she will study biology in the hopes of entering medical school and becoming an anesthesiologist. Koester plans to study mechanical engineering at the University of Florida and intends to work in urban planning to help underprivileged communities. The scholarship program is a partnership between the Education Foundation and Suncoast Credit Union Foundation since 2019.

Top-100 hospital

Staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital work hard to save lives, which is typically its own reward. But sometimes it’s good to be recognized. SMH recently was named among the top 100 hospitals in the country by Fortune/Merative, which conducts its annual ranking based on factors including patient mortality, low instances of hospital-acquired infections, inpatient expenses, re-admission rates and more. This is the sixth year SMH has ranked in the list and was judged against 2,650 acute care hospitals in the country. The hospital’s teaching program was highlighted in particular.
