Her business is flowering

Sarasota Suncoast Academy student Mia Roberts noticed a change in the seasons, and felt it was the perfect time to try a new business endeavor. The 14-year-old recently started selling flower crowns, plants and artwork at the Bazaar on Apricot and Lime. She said she figured springtime would be perfect to sell flower crowns to families looking to do outdoor photo shoots and had plenty to choose from at the Market on April 10. Roberts used a collection of flowers from her aunt to wrap around metal wire for each crown. She said she was happy to see her creations being sold.

Horticulture award for Selby

The staff at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens works hard to tend to the many plants, flowers, and botanical features on the grounds. It’s the expected work for having a rare assortment, but every once in a while that work is recognized. Such was the case recently when The Garden Club of America recognized Selby Gardens with a Commendation in Horticulture for its work in researching and collecting air plants. Selby was nominated for the award by members of the Founders Garden Club of Sarasota Inc.
