Taking it to the streets
As the sun was getting low on Tuesday evening, Sarasota bike enthusiasts met in the Rosemary District for one distinct purpose — riding together in support of community and cycling. The city of Sarasota, DreamLarge, Sarasota County, Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization and Florida Department of Transportation’s Commute Connector program came together to set up the BLVD Bike Rides event, in which cyclists rode a twomile loop through Downtown and the Rosemary District. City Sustainability Coordinator Jeff Vredenburg led the way.

Survivor honored
Dr. Helen Fagin, a Holocaust survivor and educator, has contributed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. She has a new achievement to add to her list— owning a key to the city of Sarasota. Mayor Hagen Brody joined Fagin at the Aviva Senior Living retirement community, where she resides, to present her with the key to the city and a mayor’s citation honoring her for her lifetime of work educating people about the Holocaust.
