Where will you take us? Come fly with us, we’ll fly, we’ll fly away ... in our new It’s Read Everywhere photo contest, that is. Over the years, we’ve been everywhere from the pyramids of Egypt to the Great Wall of China. But that doesn’t mean we’re jaded. We’re just as excited about where you’ll take us in this year’s contest. The grand prize is two $250 vouchers on Allegiant Airlines, our 2019 contest sponsor. So, when you pack your bags, don’t forget to bring your Observer for a photo op. Then submit it at YourObserver.com/contests/ itsreadeverywhere. File photo
Buffett chose the Patriots.
When rain backs up on your street, a fix isn’t always easy, or even necessary.
DAVID CONWAY DEPUTY MANAGING EDITOR
Rain, rain, go away: This is, more or less, a primary function of Sarasota’s stormwater management system. Right now, that system gets mixed results. Residents in different pockets of the city regularly raise concerns about flooding in their neighborhoods during
heavy rainfall, an issue elected officials expressed interest in addressing at a Jan. 22 City Commission meeting. But county staff, responsible for managing the city’s stormwater system, says it’s a more challenging operation than one might initially think.

Hugh chose the Rams.
Manatees pick the Super Bowl It’s a house divided in the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium manatee tank. For the 12th year in a row, manatees Hugh and Buffett made their selections for the winners of the Super Bowl, set for Feb. 3 in Atlanta. Buffett, who has a record of 9-2, picked the New England Patriots. Hugh (65) picked the Los Angeles Rams. The sharks in Las Vegas, by the way, have the Patriots winning. The manatees are trained to swim toward a target as part of the care process with Mote.
