Ringling College of Art and Design is leaping into the world of virtual reality. The campus in September unveiled its Virtual Reality Development space dubbed the WOW room. Through a partnership with Magic Leap, the space features futuristic hardware that transports visitors to virtual landscapes such as journeying through the human body or walking through a home designed by Hoyt Architects. “The power of virtual reality is to give insight, like being able to show someone a world ravaged by climate change,” said Morgan Woolverton, the interim department head.

Lyndsy McDonald, a pastry chef at Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota, made her debut Sept. 24 on the Food Network’s “Halloween Baking Championship.” She is competing with seven other bakers in hairraising challenges for a chance to win $25,000. The chefs will create everything from spiderweb cheesecake to “Silence of the Yams” horror movie treats. “I love Halloween because it’s the one holiday I get to spend with my three kids,” said McDonald.
