New on the job
Meet Deputy Kye. Teamed up with Deputy Chris Indico of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the 18-month-old mix of German shepherd and Belgian Malinois has been training with his human friend for more than 500 hours before starting his new job here. Fun facts: Kye was born in Budapest, Hungary, and is working on a certification in explosive detection. Kye takes over for Indico’s previous canine partner, Bryx, who died earlier this year.
Help for Haiti
The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe had planned a benefit show to support the people of Haiti, but technical issues prevented audiences from buying tickets online. It didn’t deter concertgoers, though, who showed up with checks in hand on Aug. 29. WBTT Founder Nate Jacobs joined singers Syreeta S. Banks, Christopher Eisenberg, Donald Frison, Michael Mendez, Jai Shanae and Henry Washington as part “Help for Haiti,” to raise relief money following the Aug. 14 earthquake. The show raised $12,800.
