Fight crime, win awards
Lido Key resident Tom Weitzel got a retirement present full of memories upon his departure from police work in May. The Riverside, Illinois, chief of police and longtime advocate for Fight Crime: Invest in Kids was presented with a plaque as a thank-you for his work on behalf of kids. Weitzel spent 37 years in the police department of Riverside and was police chief and co-chair of a Fight Crime Invest in Kids chapter for 13 of those years. Throughout his career, he worked with policymakers and advocated for earlychildhood education and after-school programs as ways to help address root causes of crime.
