Tourists take pictures of the birds nesting on the Roberts Bay Islands as the boat cruises along the eastern edge of the islands. The boat uses a channel north of the islands to access their eastern edge, but the Sarasota Bay Explorers could lose access to the channel if the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission decides to create a 100-foot buffer around the islands.

To celebrate your loved one’s birthday, you could send flowers or an Edible Arrangement. But why stop there? Loving wife and practical joke fan Kimberly Manooshian could think of no better way to celebrate her husband George’s 50th birthday than by “flocking” his business, Encore Motorcars of Sarasota, at 6000 S. Tamiami Trail. On July 22, George arrived at work to find dozens of pink flamingos lining the entrance to the dealership. Kimberly topped it off with a banner and signs wishing George a happy birthday and black balloons floating from cars on display. The celebration also included a tower of doughnuts in lieu of a birthday cake.
