Mural looks into park’s future
A new mural of children playing in the Rosemary District is more than a nice image. It’s the shape of things to come. About 20 middle school students with the Sarasota School of Arts & Sciences summer camp worked with the DreamLarge organization to paint a mural at 531 Central Ave. recognizing the future site of the planned Rosemary Park on June 25. Art teacher Brian Hubbard and his wife, Sarah, led the students in painting the mural designed by artist Cat Forrest and commissioned by DreamLarge.
Money for art students
The Arts Advocates nonprofit in Sarasota has long provided local students studying the arts with scholarships to help advance in their various programs. The group recently continued that trend, awarding eight grants to Sarasota County students and one Manatee County student totaling more than $25,000 for the 2021-22 school year. Emily Cain, Sophia Coscia, Thaleia Dasberg, Pablo Gonzalez, Colin Leonard, Zaine Lodhi, Zoe Nikirk and Luca Stine from Sarasota and Markella Wagner from Manatee County were this year’s recipients. All are pursuing arts degrees.
