Rosemary seeks voice in homeless planning

The city of Sarasota has its eightpoint homeless plan. Sarasota County has paid thousands for consultant Robert Marbut to craft 12 initiatives for tackling the issue, and a group of local CEOs has put together a “3 to 1 plan” to address chronic homelessness. At the sound of an air horn, runners took off for a 1-mile fun run down the shores of Siesta Key Beach June 16. Waiting at the finish line for participants were ribbons and ice pops to cool runners down. Weekly Summer Beach Runs are hosted for children and families looking for inexpensive summer activities on Siesta Key; participation is $1. The next race is Tuesday, June 30, with registration at 5:30 p.m. at the Siesta Key Beach pavilion.

The city and county are searching for a way to keep beachgoers off the dunes along the Lido Key shoreline.

Where some people might have just seen a few downed rope barriers along the multi-use recreational trail near the beach on Lido Key, Carl Shoffstall saw a bigger problem.
