Terrace tower hits mid-century Residents on April 24 celebrated the 50th anniversary of The Terrace condominium on Siesta Key alongside Frank Folsom Smith, the architect of the landmark tower at 5300 Ocean Blvd. Smith talked about his experiences working on the building and displayed an exhibit of his mid-century architecture work. Guests also took a tour of a remodeled 15th-floor unit. The building was opened in 1971 and so-named for a design feature on the first three floors.

On their way About two months after a 5K race on the sands of Siesta Key, nine Riverview High School students gathered recently at the Hyatt Regency in Sarasota to receive the eighth annual Andrew Monroe Memorial Scholarships. In total, $7,500 was doled out to the students. The RHS soccer player died in 2011 in a car crash, and after his death, Monroe’s family founded a scholarship fund. The winners were: Madelyn Halperin, Allison Kukanza, Caroline Reilly, Christie Gianoplus, Samantha Bickel, Barbara Anne Harper, Joseph St. Onge, Tyler Hockett and Nicholas Coelho. Students competed for the scholarships by writing essays.
