Peace can be hard to find, but it always helps to have a relaxing garden to make things easier. The Children First education center recently received some welcome help in the form of Florida Power and Light volunteers building a butterfly garden for the center’s children. On a particularly sunny March 3, 25 FPL volunteers met at the education center to put together the garden as part of its annual “Power to Care” volunteer week building community projects. A garden bed was built, the area was mulched, various flowers and greenery were planted and eventually benches and resting spots will be placed for staff and children to enjoy. The garden already has started attracting butterflies.

Survey seeks city seal ideas It might be a manatee or it might be a mullet. It might be gone soon. The city of Sarasota this week launched an engagement effort that could lead to a replacement of the imagery on the city’s seal (maybe that’s what it is) and, potentially, the city logo, adopted in 1988 with a silhouette of Michelangelo’s statue of “David,” a replica of which stands at The Ringling. DreamLarge, which led efforts to produce logos for The Bay Sarasota, the Library Foundation for Sarasota County and All Faiths Food Bank, has produced a survey (SarasotaBrandSurvey.com) open through April 8. “As Sarasota evolves, so does the city’s brand,” said Sarasota Mayor Erik Arroyo. “Our image should reflect the vibrancy of Sarasota to the greater community and the world. Our image should reflect our standing as a top destination, as a cultural hub, as an innovation driver and the best place to live.”
