Runners receive shower of blessings Athletes celebrate victory with a shower of Gatorade. Why not a mid-run shower of holy water? The route for the second Sarasota Music Half Marathon was steps away from the Church of the Redeemer downtown. The Rev. Richard Marsden, of Church of the Redeemer, along with parishioner Nick Nichols decided to bless runners as they passed the church. Many runners welcomed the Sunday blessing as they finished the sixth mile of the their 13.1-mile route.

Lido plan ‘not a carnival’ Have you seen me? Andy, a 2-year-old hound mix, was last seen Tuesday at his foster parents’ home on Higel Avenue and Treasure Boat Way on Siesta Key. Andy’s foster mom, Jeanne Francisco, says Andy is sweet but shy and may not respond to his name. Francisco recommends anyone who sees him to put food down and let him approach it slowly. If you have questions or information, call Francisco at 484-3366600.

Residents of Lido Key turned what was planned as an informal information-gathering workshop into a heated public discussion Tuesday, continuing their pushback against a proposal to redevelop the Lido pool and pavilion. City officials were seeking feedback on a privately submitted plan to improve the public property. Lido Beach Redevelopment Partners LLC, responding to the city’s invitation to negotiate, has proposed a series of new amenities for the pool and pavilion area, including a 305-seat restaurant, splash pad, playground, tiki bar and mini golf course.
