World of creativity
There’s a common idea that art can be found anywhere you look. Laura Freedman, Temple Sinai’s director of early childhood education, definitely subscribes to the notion. When Temple Sinai decided to install spherical security bollards in front of the Gan school entrance, she felt they could do something with the structure to make it less imposing. She studied it for a time, and although it first appeared to her as a large, nondescript, meatball-like object, inspiration finally struck her. She turned to local artist and Temple Sinai member Skip Dyrda for a creative solution. Dyrda transformed the bollard into a recreation of the planet Earth, complete with children holding hands that wrapped around the equator. She feels it’s a more welcoming introduction into the school.

Your take on art
We’re not sure it’s art, but we know a survey when we see one. The city of Sarasota wants your take on public art and has posted an online survey at SurveyMonkey.com/r/cospamp to gauge your favorite pieces already in town, where you’d like to see more and what kind you’d like to see installed around town. According to the city, Sarasota’s “Public Art Program facilitates the creation and exhibition of a wide variety of publicly and privately initiated art works through commissions, acquisitions, donations and loans governed by zoning code requirements for new development applicable city wide.”
