Siesta condos win contest

The Siesta Key Condominium Council recently named the winners of its annual outdoor decorating contest. The annual competition takes place among residences and vacation rental complexes in three size categories. Judges named Excelsior Condos, Fisherman’s Cove and Sea Shell Condos as the winners in the large, medium and small categories. Council Director Hilla Blatt noted that there were 13 contestants this year — a smaller number than usual — but that the ones that did enter did an outstanding job, not to mention several condos that decorated without participating.

Equine trio takes over

Right on the hooves of two veteran horses departing the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office’s Mounted Patrol Unit, three new horse recruits have joined the organization. Colonel, Sabre and Special will soon be found in the Sarasota community. The trio were gifted to the Sheriff’s Office in February and have spent much of the year undergoing training. Colonel is a 6-year-old Bay Thoroughbred Gelding donated by an agency in Indiantown. Sabre is a 15-year-old Bay Quarter Horse Gelding donated from Polk City. Special is a 16-year-old Bay Oldenburg Mare from Myakka City.
