City officials and property owners think Friday night’s all right for luring people to downtown events. PAGE 3

Sarasota Police Traffic Unit Officer Jason Frank works hard to stress the importance of pedestrian safety and traffic laws. Now his commitment has been recognized. Frank received the Outstanding Individual of the Year in Florida award by the Florida Department of Transportation. The award was presented virtually last June, but Andy Beymer with FDOT recently stopped by the department to give Frank his award in person. It feels good for Frank, who was runner-up for the award last year.

Blessed be the lemur, too

The Church of the Redeemer in downtown Sarasota saw an influx of cats, dogs and other four-legged friends over the weekend during its pet blessing. Rector the Rev. Charleston Wilson and Assistant Rector the Rev. Chris Wood took time to give blessings to church attendees and their many pets during the outdoor event marking the Feast of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals. Pets included dogs, cats, birds and hamsters, but this year’s event had a few more exotic creatures as well. The Big Cat Habitat group brought a baby goat and even a lemur.
