Such was the case at the annual Set The Bar competition put on by SarasotaManatee Originals on Oct. 15 at Ed Smith Stadium. Twenty-five competitors put their knowledge to the test in mixing and serving their drinks to a panel of judges and attending guests. Rhiannon Mahon with Grove Restaurant was crowned Overall People’s Choice Winner with her concoction of tequila infused with pineapple, lime, mint and other ingredients and garnished with a Tajin-dusted cucumber.

Students off to a good start

Temple Sinai welcomed religious-school students to their Jewish studies with pomp and circumstance at an Erev Shabbat Consecration service on Oct. 15. President Ellyn Bender and Men’s Club co-President Howard Polivy held a tallit shawl above the students as Rabbi Samantha Kahn and Chazzan Cliff Abramson offered blessings. Bethany Leinweber, the director of youth education, outreach and engagement, had a gift for the children. Leinweiber presented each student with a Torah.
