Scarecrow showdown
Pumpkin patch’s annual festival is a sure sign fall has arrived. SEE PAGE 19
Scarecrows staring at you on the sidewalk lately? No, you’re not living through a Stephen King novel. Megahn Croke and Kevin Enderle of Brick’s Smoked Meats have started Sarasota’s first Scarecrow competition among downtown businesses. Twenty-four of them, in fact, have put up scary, colorful, whimsical and, in one case, surprisingly muscular scarecrows as part of the competition. Mayor Hagen Brody (above) recently took time to pose with the city of Sarasota’s scarecrow as well. (He’s on the right.) People can vote for their favorites on the Brick’s and Clasico Instagram pages.
Artwork reimagined
Sarasota School of Arts & Sciences students paid tribute to Sarasota artist John Chamberlain with a public exhibit in the Rosemary District reinterpreting Chamberlain’s works. Seven students and their teacher, David Carr, partnered with the Rosemary Art & Design District to deconstruct and reimagine Carr’s signature sculpture works into a 2D form. The display at the future site of the planned Rosemary Park, 531 Central Ave.
