Visitors to Siesta Key Beach might notice a new addition to the main pavilion area: a sea turtle sculpture made entirely of aluminum. The new sculpture has been brought to Siesta Key’s shores by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation and the city of Sarasota to raise awareness of the dangers of water pollution and the value of clean water. The sculpture was created by Asolo Repertory Theatre designer Jeff Dean, who modeled it to highlight the impact of recycling. Gulf Coast Community Foundation and the city held a special unveiling event for the sculpture April 17.

Trumpet player wins scholarship Members of the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys organization are lovers of music and deeply passionate about their art. They also love to reward that talent in others. The group recently had the chance to do so again by awarding a scholarship to Tyndale McCoy, a Pine View High student who plays trumpet in his school’s wind ensemble and jazz band. The $2,000 Sheridan E. Brown Memorial scholarship will help McCoy continue his music education while attending Florida State University this fall.
