What do you do when you’re celebrating 10 years of selling cheese? If you’re Louise Converse, owner of the Artisan Cheese Co. in the Rosemary District, you break out the Big Cheese. Converse hosted an open house on April 9 to mark 10 years of selling cheese. Converse said her shop never had anything in the way of a grand opening or an anniversary celebration; she always joked she’d do something big for the 10th anniversary. “It’s kind of a big deal for us, we made it through the pandemic, and we’re still standing,” Converse said. Converse wheeled in a 95-pound wheel of Parmesan cheese that was cracked open and passed out to around 50 of her longtime customers.

Back in the race
The Sarasota Police Department has been involved with the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics for more than 20 years. That took a lengthy pause with COVID-19, but now, after two years away, members of the police department are ready to get back in the race at 8:30 a.m on Friday, April 15. Sarasota law enforcement will join 300 other Florida law enforcement agencies for the statewide run that benefits Special Olympics Florida athletes. Police department members will pick up the torch from Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office members at Paradise Plaza Publix at 3825 S. Osprey Ave. and run it to Sarasota Police Department headquarters. They’ll then take the torch down Main Street to the Unconditional Surrender statue at Bayfront Park.
