Part-time resident Dr. Gene Ginsberg has a passion for two things: playing the piano and fighting Parkinson’s disease. With an hourlong piano recital March 7, at Piano Distributors, where he receives lessons, Ginsberg did both and collected $3,389 for the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.

Commissioners pump more money into Siesta Key station The $25 million Siesta Key pump station project, scheduled to be completed in 2016, was delayed to coincide with a Phillippi Creek septic project.
St. Martha Catholic School students spent Friday morning with their grandparents and family members at Grandparents Day. More than 300 grandparents enjoyed breakfast with their grandchildren. After breakfast, students in primary grades presented a special performance. Before the morning concluded, grandparents visited their grandchildren’s classrooms.

After a two-year delay, Sarasota County is moving forward with replacing the Siesta Key wastewater treatment plant with a pump station and force main. The board approved a contract in 2010 for design and permitting of the pipeline routes. The board amended the contract twice in 2013 to add design and bid services. On Tuesday, the board voted to add more funds for the engineering phases of the project, which amounts to $829,075 total.
