Who’s a good dog sculpture?

Artist Clara Reynardus de Villanueva has spent the past several weekends working on a sculpture in support of Southeastern Guide Dogs and recently unveiled the finished work at Art Ovation Hotel. The work, titled Theia, has colors in line with the Sarasota Bay, a golden butterfly to represent the work’s buyer, and a lace collar and pearls in a nod to Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It was given to supporter Susan Jones, who donated to Southeastern Guide Dogs and its mission of training guide and service dogs for people with vision loss and veterans with disabilities.

Still Valentine’s, just a week late

Love is typically celebrated on Valentine’s Day, halfway through the month of February. But when the weather is cold, overcast and dire, sometimes you have to change up your plans. Such was the case for The Ringling, which had to delay its Valentine’s Sunset Dinner at the Ca’ d’Zan to the following Sunday, Feb. 21. Twenty-two couples, among them Janet and Fred Leonberger (above), arrived at the museum for a socially distanced yet romantic dinner. Each couple dined with the setting sun while listening to violin music.
