OUR TOWN + Key restaurants receive Golden Spoon awards Florida Trend magazine named three Longboat Key restaurants in its annual Golden Spoon awards, which recognize approximately 100 restaurants in the state. Maison Blanche and Pattigeorge’s received Golden Spoon awards, and Euphemia Haye earned the Hall of Fame award, which recognizes restaurants that have earned repeat Golden Spoons. The top criteria for the award are excellent food and service. The award is usually given to restaurants with proven longevity that have been in business for more than three years. A full list of the recipients is in the magazine’s December issue, which is on newsstands now.

Application seeks Moore rezoning A new request from Moore’s co-owner Alan Moore seeks to revert the restaurant to its original commercial zoning and redevelop with Mark Caragiulo and Tom Leonard. Moore’s Stone Crab Restaurant owners want to redevelop with restaurateurs Mark Caragiulo and Tom Leonard as investors. And, while Caragiulo and Leonard are interested in the prospect, Caragiulo says whether they actually proceed depends on a number of factors. “It’s contingent on rezoning and where we fall regarding

FEMA regulations,” Caragiulo said. “Maybe it’s a 60% probability we’ll move forward.” Moore’s co-owner Alan Moore filed three applications to redevelop his family’s 47-yearold restaurant Nov. 25, with the Longboat Key Planning Zoning and Building Department. Moore declined to comment about plans to the Longboat Ob-

server. “I really don’t want it to be out there any more than it already is in the press,” he said. Caragiulo said if preliminary plans move forward, “Our goal is to build a really cool, iconic restaurant on the peninsula — something that’s indigenous and fits with the area.” He believes the restaurant needs to be up-

dated with a new architectural plan that could possibly have influences from the Sarasota School of Architecture. The materials Moore submitted to the town include a request to revert the zoning of the property at 800 Broadway to its origi-

+ Bolero music to flavor Amore by Andrea Amore by Andrea offers Italian flavors, but on Sundays, you’ll hear Spanish sounds. Marina Bay resident Yusuke Horiguchi, a Japan native who is known for his performance of Spanish bolero music, despite not speaking Spanish, will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. Sundays at the restaurant, located at 555 Bay Isles Parkway. Also unusual about Horiguchi: Typically, a trio performs boleros, but Horiguchi is a one-man performer.

Jim Gottschalk adds the tree topper to the Casa Del Mar Beach Resort’s Christmas tree Monday, Dec. 1. The annual tradition kicked off the Christmas season for the resort. For more photos from the event, see page 25A.

Arbomar board, unit owner reach settlement The board reached an agreement with Pete DiNicola, but for now, it’s not the end of lawsuits at the 31-unit Longboat condo. Three board members of Arbomar condominium agreed to step down in a global settlement with unit owner Pete DiNicola, who sued board members and the condo association in May. Karen Jennings, secretary of the board of directors, wrote in

a Nov. 25 email to unit owners: “This Thanksgiving, our community can give thanks that a settlement has been reached in the civil lawsuit filed by Mr. Pete DiNicola.” Board President Walter “Chip” Major, treasurer Judy Spiezio

and Bill Baxter have agreed to resign, according to the email. Unit owners Jan McClure, George Romanoff and Esther Cook have agreed to fill the vacancies for the remaining terms. A joint statement sent to unit owners that DiNicola and board

members signed states: “The global settlement was for the purpose of settling and compromising all disputed claims and furthering the best interests of the Association as a whole. The Parties have agreed that this amicable global settlement does not constitute an admission by
