North end may get parking break Commissioners unanimously consented to forward an ordinance restricting Village parking to their October regular meeting. The Longboat Key Town Commission is in gear to pass new parking restrictions for the Longbeach Village. The commission unanimously agreed at Monday’s workshop to forward a proposed parking ordinance to its Oct. 6 regular meeting for first reading. If the
commission approves it in November on second reading, restrictions could take effect that month. The proposed ordinance adds the following restrictions: • No parking for the entire north side of Broadway Street from Palm Drive to Bayside
Drive; • No parking from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the entire south side of Broadway from Palm Drive to Bayside Drive; • No parking on the east side of the street on Lois Avenue between Broadway and Russell Street;
• No parking on the east side of Poinsetta Drive between Broadway and Russell Street. The ordinance incorporates suggestions that Village residents made at an April 21 workshop for alleviating parking. Citizen suggestions focused on three major areas: A parking plan to meet the needs of the

+ Mar Vista begins dock construction Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant & Pub is on track to have a new dock by the end of October. General Manager Anthony Cucci said the restaurant tore out its old dock last week and estimates the new structure will take four to six weeks to complete. The new dock will be “just like the old one” but will have new stringers, runners and composite decking wood and will also have two new fingers, allowing it to accommodate two extra boats, Cucci said. The town issued a building permit for the estimated $102,950 project earlier this month.

Restaurant that’s Amore’ to open in October W. Howard Rooks and Andrea Bozzolo plan to open a new Italian eatery in the vacant former Mattison’s Steakhouse at the Plaza building. The former Mattison’s Steakhouse at the Plaza building has been empty since 2008. But those who are hungry for a new restaurant in the building won’t have to wait much longer. W. Howard Rooks, who owns the building at 555 Bay Isles Parkway, plans to open an Italian restaurant in October that will be called Amore’ in partnership
with Andrea Bozzolo, owner of Andrea’s on Siesta Drive. “We will have an affordable menu, fresh seafood, steak and fine Italian cuisine,” Rooks said. The restaurant will have seating for 260 diners and an outdoor patio and remodeled bar. Rooks initially hoped to sell the property to Lakeland-based Publix Supermarkets Inc., which
completed a rebuilt store and shopping center in late 2012. Publix purchased the adjacent 1.52-acre Town Plaza II shopping area from Rooks for $1.25 million in 2012 and demolished it to add parking. “Publix wasn’t interested in buying the restaurant,” Rooks
