Commissioners approve $954,397 tax increase Town Manager Dave Bullock seeks tax increases in 2015 to offset declining revenues and pricey beach projects next summer. The Longboat Key Town Commission adopted a fiscal year 2015 budget and millage rate on first reading Monday night at Town Hall that generates $954,397 in additional dollars

+ Donation creates summer camp gift A donation from St. Armands Key Lutheran Church’s senior ministry recently made it possible for 13 children to attend Dollar Dynasty’s educational summer camp. The students were among 37 students ages 6 to 12 who attended the camp for 10 weeks. Dollar Dynasty is an 11-year-old nonprofit in the heart of Sarasota’s Newtown community.

Mark Kerr, the crew leader for the Longboat Key Public Works Department, helps post flags 30 feet apart down a 10-mile stretch of Gulf of Mexico Drive. This week, he was one of 12 town employees helping to line the sidewalk with approximately 2,977 American flags, one for each victim of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Kerr was in his hometown of Pittsburgh on Sept. 11, 2001.

David Jackson is a familiar face, but only if you’ve been a frequent attendee at the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort bankruptcy hearings in Tampa. Jackson, who has provided commissioners with
