+ Temple hosts Back to School social Frozen yogurt kept everyone feeling “chill” during the recent Back to School Meet and Greet Temple Sinai hosted at Menchie’s in the River Club Plaza. Parents and children caught up with friends they hadn’t seen over the summer and families looking for a synagogue experience talked with Rabbi Geoff Huntting, Chazzan Cliff Abramson and Sue Huntting, religious school director. Conversation focused around vacation, summer camps and plans for the coming school year, including attending Temple Sinai’s mid-week Hebrew class in Lakewood Ranch. Attendees brought school supplies to donate to the Sarasota YMCA School Link program.

School Board District 5 candidates Julie Aranibar and Mary Cantrell will face off in the Nov. 4 election. EAST COUNTY — As School Board District Chairwoman Julie Aranibar sat at the dais Tuesday night hearing audit and budget updates, considering purchase contracts and taking other actions, opponent Mary Cantrell relaxed among friends and fellow educators at a riv-
erfront home as she waited to hear who secured the District 5 school board seat. And that fate is still yet to be determined. The East County residents now will face off in the general election Nov. 4, after neither secured the majority of the vote
— a required 50% plus one vote — in Tuesday’s primary election. Aranibar garnered 38.18% of the vote, or 15,014 votes, while Cantrell secured 36.28%, or 14,269 votes.

Lakewood Ranch CDD supervisors adopted their FY 2015 budgets Aug. 21. Average assessment changes ranged from -$144 to $108. LAKEWOOD RANCH — For residents of Lakewood Ranch, when it comes to annual assessments, it all depends on where you live. Lakewood Ranch community development districts 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 all will see budget changes in 2015 ranging from a 3.5% increase to an 8.9% decrease. For residents, those budget numbers range as high as a $108 average annual assessment increase per unit in District 5 to as low as a $144 average annual assessment decrease per unit in CDD 6.
CDD BUDGET BREAKDOWN / PAGE 8 Increased expenses for each district stem primarily from costs associated with technology and community-wide connectivity upgrades, as well as higher fees for irrigation water from irrigation utility provider Braden River Utilities. Supervisors adopted their fiscal year 2015 budgets Aug. 21. Town Hall Finance Director Steve Zielinski called the bud-
gets fiscally responsible. “It meets all the requirements to provide the same or improved level of services, which would maintain the high expectations of the quality of life for living in Lakewood Ranch — the aesthetics, the appeal of living in Lakewood Ranch,” Zielinksi said. “There were no real major issues with any of the districts, except for (district) 5 (because of road reserves). And (district) 5 is going to do pretty well in the future.”
