+ Temple plans community outreach Temple Sinai will expand its presence in the Lakewood Ranch area this fall with programs and opportunities for socializing and learning. To start, Chizzan Cliff Abramson will lead a discussion over dessert at 7 p.m. July 30, at a private residence. There is no cost, but RSVPs are required, call 966-0252. “We are fortunate that so many people who live north of University have chosen to become part of the Temple Sinai community,” the temple’s Vice President of Membership Elana Margolis says. “We’re eager to provide more programming for them and their friends where they live.” Other upcoming events include a back-to-school night Aug. 10 and a beer tasting in October.

EAST COUNTY — Dominic Lentini and Tyler Wilkerson have spent most of their lives side by side. The 17-year-olds, who have been close friends since third grade, can’t remember a significant life event that doesn’t include the other. So when they couldn’t find their ideal jobs in January, they took their friendship a step further — as business partners. “We knew we didn’t want jobs that bored us to death,” Lentini said. “We wanted to do something we enjoyed.”

LAKEWOOD RANCH — When Ryan Heise says Lakewood Ranch’s control-access system is out of date, a simple palm frond illustrates his point. With the community’s existing technology, a fallen frond, located in front of receiver, can — and has — disrupt gate communication and cause access problems for residents. But now, contractors are installing a new $93,000 resident database and access-control system that will allow residents to access gates and facilities more reliably. “We needed to upgrade our technology,” said Heise, operations director for the Lakewood Ranch Inter-District Authority. “Now, we’re going to have hardware and software supported by the manufacturer. We’re going to have less failure rates with equipment. It’s a much more efficient system.” Contractors first will upgrade access-control equipment, including card readers, control panels and more. Next, they will upgrade how
