Bradenton resident Sam Woolf has a growing army of fans now that he is in the top nine of the current season of “American Idol.” Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate Longboat Key associate Roger Sam Woolf Pettingell can say he was an early member of the Woolfpack before the teen shot to fame. Woolf’s dad, Scott, used to do punch work for Pettingell and his customers and often showed off his soon-to-be-star son singing on YouTube. “He would always bring in these music files for us to listen to,” Pettingell said. “He (Sam Woolf) was awesome. It’s such an uphill battle to imagine him going from a 13-year-old to this.” Pettingell is still part of the Woolfpack. He and his team are cheering, voting and blogging for Woolf.

ELECTION TOTALS
Last year, Irwin Pastor lost his first bid for a commission seat by 27 total votes when he didn’t capture the votes needed in the Manatee County portion of the island. In 2014, though, Pastor got exactly 27 more votes on the Manatee County portion of the island than opponent Armando Linde. But he didn’t need them because he won by 440 votes. Pastor, 71, became the new face on the Longboat Key Town Commission when Town Clerk Trish Granger informed him he received 60.2% of the vote, or 1,300 votes, compared with challenger Armando Linde’s 39.8%, or 860 votes. Pastor stayed in his L’Ambiance condominium until he got the phone call from Granger. His wife, Sylvia, greeted guests with champagne in a L’Ambiance first-floor party room until
Terry Gans learned in business “to always run scared and always do your best.” Last year, when he faced off against challenger Irwin Pastor, he refused to go into a party with his fellow commissioners until he learned the results. This year, however, after seeing Sarasota County results, in which he received 57.8% of votes, the retired grocery store chain executive felt confident enough to go into his party before he saw the Manatee County tally. As he headed in, he got a call from Town Clerk Trish Granger: Gans received 1,252 votes, or 57.38%, defeating challenger Ray Rajewski to win a two-year term in
