Burglaries put residents on alert Lakewood Ranch officials and residents take action after a recent trend of home burglaries along the I-75 corridor raises concerns.
+ Marching medals The Braden River High School Marching Band took home top honors Nov. 23, at the Florida Marching Band Coalition state finals. Braden River captured the state title in Class 3A. Lakewood Ranch High’s marching band also earned honors, placing fifth in Class 4A.
LAKEWOOD RANCH — Tom Leavey was vacationing in Paris with his wife when someone smashed through the rear sliding glass door of his Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club home and stole antique jewelry. A neighbor who was keeping an eye on Leavey’s home in the Si-
ena neighborhood did not see or hear anything when it happened, probably sometime in the middle of the night around Nov. 7. “It was a real shock to us; you never hear anything like that happening here,” said Leavey, a board member on Lakewood Ranch Community Development
District 5, who cut his annual 10day trip to Paris three days short to tend to his home. “I always thought we were safe.” A series of home burglaries along the Interstate 75 corridor in Manatee and Sarasota counties—

+ Holiday helpings Lakewood Ranch resident Don O’Leary and friends, Dick Moran and Richard Lozier, this year may be foregoing their annual drive through Lakewood Ranch to collect non-perishable food and financial donations for the Food Bank of Manatee, but that doesn’t mean they’ve given up their annual tradition. O’Leary says Lakewood Ranch residents can bring their donations to Lakewood Ranch Town Hall, 8175 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Lakewood Ranch, now through Dec. 6. O’Leary, who underwent a double bypass surgery in October, says he is feeling well, but “taking it easy.” He and his friends decided to put their door-to-doorstyle food pickup on hold this year. He and his co-collectors plan to be driving through the community for their annual food drive again next year.

Heritage Harbour CDD presents plan to clarify maintenance duties The Heritage Harbour South CDD and the Stoneybrook Homeowners Assocation discussed how best to maintain assets within the district. HERITAGE HARBOUR — Supervisors on the Heritage Harbour South Community Development District board are one step closer to better defining the relationship between the CDD

IN OTHER BUSINESS • Supervisors approved an agreement with the Stoneybrook Golf Club that allows the golf course to remove stray golf balls from the district’s lakes. Money generated from the sale of the balls will be split between the CDD and the golf course. • Supervisors agreed to discuss the board’s meeting procedures at their December meeting, after members of the public said they had not had enough time to review them.
