Marion F. Gange, of Venice, formerly of West Haven, Conn., Dayton, Ohio, and Longboat Key, died May 25. She was 90. Ms. Gange was born Sept. 23, 1912, in West Haven, Conn., the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Gangi. She attended Yale School of Music in New Haven, Conn. As a talented guitarist and professional musician, she played with the Ina Ray Hutton Orchestra, one of the best-known all-female bands in the mid1930s. Later, Ms. Gange formed her own trio with Barbara Carroll as a steady pianist. Ms. Gange’s reputation in the musical world continued to grow and led to her selection as the “Gibson Girl” for Gibson guitar’s advertising campaign. She accepted the opportunity to bring music to World War II veterans, and her trio became part of one of the first USO hospital units to provide entertainment for veterans. Knowing the entertainment world well led her to move to Dayton, Ohio, where she produced and directed WHIO TV. She retired to Longboat Key for the beautiful weather and musical contacts in the area. Ms. Gange was preceded in death by her brothers James, Frank, John, George, Albert and William; and sisters Josephine Loomis, Theresa Williams and Mae Krachenfels. She is survived by her sister, Jeanette Saggio; and several nieces and nephews.
