Complaints of excessive noise in the Siesta Key Village aren’t a new issue, but a possible change in the enforcement of noise ordinances could be coming.

According to Sarasota Commissioner Nora Patterson, there has been an increase in the amount of noise complaints in the Village, which had previously

been peaceful for quite some time. In a few weeks, commissioners will receive the results of a report examining the way other com-

munities handle live entertainment and permits. Furthermore, it also will consider suggestions from Siesta Key Association board members, who want to increase the number of code enforcement officers

Siesta Key Association members spent time manning a booth at Siesta Fiesta this weekend, where the group enjoyed a steady sale of collectible Siesta Fiesta T-shirts to benefit the Siesta Key Village Association. This year’s T-shirts are the first to commemorate Siesta Key Beach’s No. 1 beach status, and SKA board member Peter van Roekins reported that sales were brisk both days and several sizes sold out.

SKVA will be reimbursed for upkeep Sarasota County commissioners voted last week to pay $2,832.50 to the Siesta Key Village Association. The Siesta Key Village Association will receive a nearly $3,000 reimbursement from Sarasota County for expenses it has incurred while maintaining the upkeep of the Village since August. The Sarasota County commis-

sion approved the reimbursement at its meeting April 11, following testimony by Mark Smith, a board member of the Siesta Key Village Maintenance Corporation, the entity that has maintained the Village since the contract with JWM Manage-

ment expired in August. Smith said the money the SKVA received from the county since then was for the exact amount of the vendor’s invoices, which left some additional expenses to be paid by SKVA. He presented paperwork detailing a

variety of expenses — including bank fees, attorney fees, State of Florida Annual Corporation Report fees, accounting fees and IRS tax preparation fees. Commissioners voted to pay $2,832.50 to the SKVA. Furthermore, Commissioner Nora Patterson also made a motion to authorize ordinance changes that
