+ Stoneybrook raises funds for breast health Ellie Brenan and the Stoneybrook Women’s Golf Association recently presented Suellen Kaeb, of Breast Health Sarasota, a check for $30,500. The Stoneybrook community raised the funds as a part of its annual effort each February to raise money for breast-cancer diagnostic and treatment needs. The effort culminated with a golf tournament and dinner.

Downtown motorists and pedestrians clamoring for the reopening of Ringling Boulevard from Orange Avenue to the bayfront can circle June 15 on their calendars. Ringling roundabouts project manager Neil Gaines said the road and the roundabouts being constructed on Ringling Boulevard

at Pineapple Avenue and Palm Avenue will be open no later than June 15. With any luck, Gaines said the roundabouts and the road could open sooner. Construction crews have completed 95% of the concrete work involved with shaping the roundabouts and are working on installing the last stormwater project at

the Palm Avenue roundabout. The crews then will be working to install irrigation and landscaping around the roundabouts before laying the road and asphalt. Brick paving in the roundabouts will be completed before the intersections are striped and opened to the public. The closing of Ringling Boule-

BICYCLIST DISPUTE By Kurt Schultheis | City Editor

Legacy Trail modifications questioned Some South Sarasota residents are questioning whether cars should have to stop for bicyclists as they ride The Legacy Trail and approach busy intersections.

The Goodwill Foundation recently received a rare 1896 Carl Bechstein piano from local donors Jim and Ronna Bridges, who had previously used the piano as a display in their customcabinet showroom. “Goodwill does good things for people in our community,” said Jim Bridges. “That’s why we decided to donate the piano.” The Goodwill Foundation hosted a reception and auction of the piano April 17, featuring a performance by local pianist and Pine View School student Matthew Falgowski.

The intersection at Central Sarasota Parkway and The Legacy Trail is causing a stir among some area cyclists now that it has been designed to give motorists the right of way at all times. Since the opening of The Legacy Trail three years ago, motorists and bicyclists have had many close encounters, including fender benders, at the intersection in question. In February, a change to the intersection was made by Sarasota County at the request of the Palmer Ranch Communities Coalition. The modification removed a flashing orange light
