Saying they felt county staff had not communicated sufficiently with Key residents, two county commissioners last week voted against a revised plan for improvements at Turtle Beach. “I’m not comfortable with the public-input portion on this,” Chairwoman Christine Robinson said before the board voted 3-2 to amend a contract with CPH Engineers Inc. of Sarasota to reduce the number of im-

However, Catherine Luckner, president of the Siesta Key Association, told the Pelican Press that, because Project Manager Curtis Smith had been a frequent presenter at the organization’s meetings over the past three

+ New walkers welcome Readers of the “Island Beat” column will recall a Nov. 10 item about a group of friends who regularly walk their dogs together on the Key. Since that item appeared, Sally Langer, a 20-year resident, reported, more folks and their furry friends have joined the group. The group walks every day at 8:30 a.m., except on Sundays, when they wait an extra 30 minutes for Siesta Chapel members to get home from the early service and changed into walking attire.

Months of discussions and design work culminated Jan. 18, in the official welcoming of a sign at Siesta Public Beach, recognizing the beach’s status as No. 1 in the nation. County commissioners, county staff and members of the public took turns smiling and posing with both sides of the sign. Kevin Cooper, of the Siesta Chamber, Lourdes Ramirez and Rob Lewis, of Sarasota County Government.
