+ Tara couple celebrates 50 years Tara residents Jack and Barbara Herbert celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 10. The couple was married in 1961 at Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Catonsville, Md. Jack earned his master’s degree from The George Washington University and spent much of his career at Westinghouse in Baltimore and also taught accounting at Catonsville Community College and the University of Maryland. Barbara worked as a medical secretary at the University of Maryland. Today, Jack continues to serve in education as a substitute teacher at Lakewood Ranch High School. The Herberts have two children, Kelly Gardner, of Charlotte, N.C., and Jeffrey Herbert, of Bradenton; and two grandchildren, Ryan Gardner and Will Gardner, both of Charlotte.
LAKEWOOD RANCH — Milt Flinn, president of SchroederManatee Ranch subsidiary LWR Communities, has left the company. Flinn, who joined SMR in 2005 and was promoted to one the
company’s top posts in 2008, finished his last day Sept. 13. SMR President and CEO Rex Jensen said Flinn’s departure was not performance related. “We wish him well,” Jensen said. “He’s a very accomplished

LAKEWOOD RANCH — Longtime Lakewood Ranch Community Development District Supervisor Don O’Leary is stepping down from his District 2 post to accept a position as a fire commissioner for East Manatee Fire Rescue. O’Leary submitted to the board Sept. 15 his O’Leary letter of resignation, which takes effect Oct. 1. “I feel very honored about it,” the retired New York City firefighter said of his appointment as a fire commissioner. “It’s very comfortable for me. “I enjoyed serving the members of District 2,” he said. “I did it for (about) seven years.
