RIVER CLUB — There’s not a Sunday morning that goes by that River Club resident Shari Medley isn’t inspired. From the moment she first walks through the door of Living Lord Lutheran Church, until the final hymn has been sung, Medley can’t help but smile. But it’s more than her faith that touches Medley’s heart every week. From her seat in the congregation, Medley glances over

and watches as 10-year-old Joey Baar bounds down the aisle. A huge smile spreads across his face as he eagerly waits for the service to begin. At first glance, Joey, who was born with Down syndrome, appears to be a typical little boy. But it’s what Joey’s battling on the inside — leukemia — that has captured Medley’s heart. “He’s always smiling,” Medley said. “He’s such a happy little guy. He’s always bouncing. Even

SARASOTA COUNTY — Improvement in the local economy is paving the way for East County-based Benderson Development to move forward not only with filling its existing commercial nodes along University Parkway but also for expanding development within University Town Center, its future megamall project at the southwest intersection of University Parkway and Interstate 75. Benderson’s Executive Director of Leasing Mark Chait said several tenants have opened in Benderson’s plazas along the University Parkway corridor since January, including Square One Burgers and Guitar Center, and another 10 retailers, including Old Navy, Dress Barn and Buffalo Wild Wings, will open for business in the coming months. “It’s great,” Chait said of feedback from patrons of the plaza. “That’s the exciting part of the job. People are very excited.” When Guitar Center opened in The Shoppes at University Center in February, about 1,200 people turned out for the store’s grand opening, which included an AC/ DC cover band performance in
